Great article ddp. A let down for me since I have a 3.2 P 4E. Oh well there will always be bigger, badder chips right after you buy one. I will be content with it until PCI Express is in the mainstream or better utilization of AMD 64.
Edit F'd up the link to Newbie Essentials! I am a dumb ass at 4 in morn!

@kinza
RAM works fine, no problems yet. I got free memory coolers with it, so I'm using those too.

Some of us are not prefect, but at least honest. A fellow here about once edited a blunder (that I mentioned). Then tried to tell me I was mistaken. God knows that never happens.

Hey kinza, Majority of my backups are main-movie only,AC3 5.1 english only,and edit out the beginning and ending credits. If no compression,about 5 mins to encode. Avg 30 mins for total process time for the 10-20% range. On those larger dvd-9's like Lord of the rings, about 1 hour using max smooth and deep analysis enhancements.
I have done quite a few "B" movies,entire disc and no editing in under 18 mins,but they were around 4100-4200 mbs,very small.All of these are at 4x burn speed.

your motherboard might not support newer northwood cpus & probably not prescott at all. so intead get a new board & cpu as long as current ram is ddr if not than newer faster ddr ram

Should I get the 3.2e ghz with 2 mb L2 cache or 3.4e ghz with 1mb L2 cache? I don't want to skimp out on small details and end up returning stuff. Thanks.
