The responses to this request are great in their level of detail...can any of you help me? I want to purchase a pc and attendant componets/bells/whistles/stuff in order to to the following
Run Windows, adobe premiere pro for video editing/production; adobe photo shop, scan slides, burn dvds, scan text and pictures. I want a good size monitor with good resolution and I am also going to link to a nearby flatscreen. I plan to use multiple drives to add memory and capacity to do stuff.

I saw a set up similar to what I want and that person, who said he had a terabyte of memorey had a Sony computer with extra drives. Someone else told me I might be wiser to buty Dell components because the service is good and in Sony I would only be paying for the name. But I am not sure where to start in terms of ordering all I will need.

I don't want to piecemeal this. To the extent possible I want to purchase what I need up front.

If you can help, have mercy on someone over 50 and speak in the plainest terms.

thanks

@capoite - think you meant a gigabyte of memory, not a terabyte :)

only messing, the most any of my servers at work have is 16GB memory, and they're most definitely not Windows/Intel machines.

no actually he said terabyte...maybe he meant when he added all the memory on his extra drives...the guy is an Aussie but I think he knows what he is doing...we were on vacation and stupidly I didn't write down what he had exactly.

no that is just what I recently built for myself lol. for video editing and such I would reccommend a dual core processor for you.
are you looking for a ready made pc? or one you will build yourself and save alot of money on?

Techguy:

I am afraid if I try to build it myself, it will end up costing more in screwup $$$.

We recently remodeled our house and we had it wired cat5 wired for an integrated computer, video, tv, etc system. When I get my new stuff, we plan to have the same guys come back who installed the wiring set up and have them install all our hardware (my husband's home office and my new stuff) and network everything...so they will put together whatever I get. It was one of their guys (whose actual area of expertise is TVs) who suggested I go on this forum for help and suggested I consider buying the components from Dell. Before that I was thinking I would try to buy a ready made system...but I know its not that simple. I went to Circuit City and they guy there know only a bit more than I do...which is not much.

ok well that is fine! I know people at circuit city and best buy no nothing about computers at all, it sort of amazes me how they can get a job. my guess is there just regular salesman. in this case I would go ahead and go with a dell atleast you can fully customize it to your needs. and thats better than I can say for bestbuy or circuit city.
