No Mort you are not seeing things :-) .. Those are CMC MAGS you see in my sig. They are my testing discs.
For some insane reason my dvd player only plays certain burnt movies.. (all set to dvd-rom)no matter if I use TYs or CMC MAGS. The movies that work have been burnt again and again and continue to work.. but anything else (with the exception of Batman the animated series) refuses to play.
So I am saving up for a new player and in the meantime I am honing my burning skills with the CMC MAGS. My roommate's player and his PS2 play them just fine...
And I can always use them to toss at the cats... ;-)

Quote: I am honing my burning skills with the CMC MAGS
- LMAO!, i honed my Bulkpaq burning skills by chucking them in the wood burner on my boat (which i believe reaches 500C!!!). That's the only damn decent burning you get out of crappy media

Well.. so far, I have no coasters with the Phillips CMC MAGS.
My burner does not have the capability for pi scanning, so I cant provide any.
But as long as the discs play in my roomie's set top and his PS2 then I know that at least I have the procedure correct.
As soon as I solve my dvd player issue, all my burns will be with the YUDEN000T02's

why is it that written media can deteriorate over time? I have had that happen with quality CD-Rs, and am just starting out burning DVDs now....

that's one thing i don't know enough about (i've skim-read various things about it, on here too i think); but the throwaway comment i will make is that if crap quality media is used to start with, the chances of it deteriorate surely has to be greatly increased..

yeah, take it from me, CMC MAGS will stop sorking after a couple of months most likely. i got my first hundo on em, and guess what. went towatch I Robot the other day, 20 min into it it starts pixelating and then freezes. worked fine 5 months ago when i watched it like 6 times the whole way through. i thought huh ty who needs em? we all need em!! dont even bother "honin ur skillz"(ROFLMAO)on crap media, cause then u gotta redo the whole process on good media.
GO ILLINI

Ok as triple 6 would put it I'll chime in again. I would never put cmags in my sig. Thats cool honing your skills and getting experience on some cheap media but I wouldn't tell anybody less you want to catch grief. Thats like listing you have a P1, 64mb ram, 10gb hdd, and win 95 os. Sorry Karel, no harm intended, just playin wit ya man.

Are you kidding, take a he double toothpicks of a lot more than that to get under my skin. I hope I haven't takin it for granted that other members automatically get my dry sense of humor and have ever offended anyone myself. First time I saw your name I thought he must be bad news. Turns out you anything but IMO. We be cool and if I ever take a stab at ya, it's all in fun my friend. Keep up the good work and be chattin at ya.

@kivory666 - yup, you know me i don't miss too many threads, and i remember the one where you 'stood your ground slightly'!. Didn't see you posting last night, however i had to switch off my monitor about 10pm as i was in dire need of some Scully i mean x-files episodes :)
@mort81 - yes, i had for a while pondered whether it was a dry sense of humour. Not the easiest thing to put across/or guess at, in print. I myself am classic dry humour day to day (not sure if it comess across in print tho); it used to get me in a lot of trouble in my last job, as i'd been promoted a few times and my new boss (he'd become a wannabe crawly suckup type & i've always become even more laid back) - he had the nerve to pull me up a few times & say i was perceived to be miserable. I said "don't you know what dry humour is?" and "why do you ignore the huge beaming smile (and deep, dirty laugh) that always accompany my jokes/comments" - what a jerk he was. Nice guy before he got promoted above me. Anyway, ppl do tend to mis-read dry humour a lot i guess. I'm still like it now, though i probably smile less with it, but laugh all the dirtier all the more!
as for senior status, i know, i've only been here since mid January and i got something like 1400 posts. Have just got into work and have got half a screen of posts to get thru. Which is tricky as they're monitoring our work surfing now & their software is crap, it reckons i'd surfed 44hours in a 45hour week, which even for me is impossible.
Right, off to make some toast, then clear my afterdawn posts & then i guess do a bit of work :)

When I saw the Staple AD for 50 discs for 8.00 I ran up and bought
a spindle. but when I put one in and checked it with DVD Infopro, and saw It was a CMC Mag I took them back without even trying to burn one.
My,and I assume your, time is more valuable than that. I ordered another 50 pack of Ritek printable, which have worked very well for me so far. Ben

Staples is pretty good about returns. I took back a 5 pk of memorex dvdrw's that coded out as infodiscs no questions asked. That was the last and final time I bought memorex.

Yeah I knew they would either be infodisc's or ricohjpn for the dvd+rw's but I didn't want very many and that was the smallest quantity of +rw's they had. Ricohjpn's (good) is what I was hopeing for. Well I'm not that lucky. I never even tried one (knowing the rep of infodisc) and swiftly exchanged em for a 10 pk of Sony +rw's media code phillips 041 which have performed excellent.

Dont every buy HP branded media, ALL hp media is now made by CMC MAG, I made the error (before I knew all about this) to buy A 50 spindle Hp branded DVD+R MEDIA, it was not very compatible and had lots of problems with my 2 or 3 computers that didint recognize the disc or Transfer rate was very slow, also its was 0-10% Compatible with A PS2 Console, I dunno how a brand like Hp can ruin their image by giving buying CMC MAG media.
