i made sure i sent my rebate info in,
but if i need more verbs in a couple of weeks, i would probably go with the amazon $32/no rebate instead of the newegg $26/after rebate, just because i'm not sure how responsive newegg is to rebates, and every so often i do forget to send rebate info in, which is what they are counting on.
the newegg verbs i received are mcc-003 and have satisfied my media-picky lite-on burner, so i am satisfied with my first batch of verbatims i have ever used. :)
i'm gonna have to burn the majority of my dvds on the laptop until i can upgrade the desktop to a faster cpu desktop, so all i need now is a tool to change the booktype for my laptop.
i'm gonna find a safe download site for kprobe2 and check it out (thanks creaky

you know, creak anything is possible, but I would tend to think this was a bad batch, MAYBE...or there are different 'grades' of this branded disc.
Jer: FYI,the rebate is from VERBATIM, not newegg. No problem with burning, but to repeat: after looking at a very pleasing curve in 100's of burns with these Verbies from 50pks, this 100pk stuff just doesn't look right to me. WAAAAYY off thie curve. When you burn a few, can you post a typical kprobe here? I'll do a comparison, when I get my replacement 100. If I can find this thread in that time...lol
My liteon really likes these, so I am not sure what to think in this case, but there are a few possibilities.

Hmmmnn.I like verbatims a lot.The -r 8x variety. The MCC02rg20 kind.BUT only the ones made in taiwan.I recently bought as an emergency fom PC World (yuk) a 25 spindle that used to be from taiwan, but lately are from india. And they are differant. From appearance to performance. The taiwanese discs have purple right to the edge, whereas the indian disc has a thin silver rim around the edge.Looks like we even have to watch verbatims now. They aint fakes im sure of that.Just drives you fu*&^ng mad that you have to now specify place of origin before you buy.
@Creaky and all other American friends. Will you please STOP bleating about how cheap your discs are in the us, cos us brits are seeing red!!!!!

Is there something similiar to kprobe for non-LiteOn drives, so I can test mine and post for you? I've never bothered to run any diags on blanks, but would be willing to if
I always buy +R media, and you mentioned Mits Chem Co being spelled out in Red on your 50 packs from Sams?
I have bought two 50 packs and two 100 packs from Sam's and my +R's never had that verbage on them for whatever that means. Thought I'd share.
Anyway, my +Rs are burning beautifully as always.

@pieman - i'm in the UK, and i see red too!. I just bleat about ppl using landfill media :)
@LivnDGirl - how about Nero CD-DVD Speed ?. (i must admit i didn't notice that KProbe was recommended for Liteon's only, i just wasn't paying attentiion when i downloaded it). I just started looking into it as i saw references to it in another thread.

@pieman - i've only come across india, singapore and taiwan so far, i don't recall reading that they're made anywhere else. Japan , maybe ?, not sure; i'd do a search, i'm sure Kivory666 mentioned something about Japan, though he may have said they're not made there. I just can't remember, soz

hi buddy, what i actually said in another post was this....
Quote: if you ever find a MADE IN JAPAN pack of verbatims (with proof), then i will forever shut my trap and not give ANY more advice to the DOZENS of members i've helped here with media~ :P
there are NO verbs made in japan from my extensive research and personal experience with them...the ones in singapore that you mentioned ARE older stock, besides the 16x speed which are made in singapore now~ but my reference was to the 8x Verbs at hand~ :)
i'll be here every now and then since i'm busy dealing with my own personal problems, i'll just add my 2 cents in wherever i see my name mentioned..thanks for your kind words creaky...and thanks to everyone else who has trusted their media purchases with my advice, i sincerely appreciate the kind words. :)
good day to you all~

LivnDGirl, I was misremembering. on the 50pks of +R's i get from Sam's, where towards the bottom edge it has the UPC code, above the UPC about an inch and a half it says: Verbatim Corporation, 2004 - A Subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemilcal Corporation...then underneath that it says Made in Taiwan in 3 lang's. The +R's I have bought from Sam's always say this, whereas NONE of the -R's have this statement on the label when I have looked at them while shopping at Sam's.
The 100pk of +R's I got from Newegg did not have this signifier on it anywhere...weird. Kinda wonder why, ya know?
Speaking of Newegg, after wrestling with a woman who has less command of the english language than I would expect from someone in customer service in a company based in the US. (I wanted to try my poor limited Cantonese & Mandarin out, but on 2nd thought...)
I was able to get around her and get someone else who actually KNEW that there was a provision for RMA'ing these discs. When in doubt, CC
everyone else's emails in the company, if necessary!
(this "mrs wang" kept insisting that they didn't take returns on DVD's, which is normally true, but even after I sent the link to her company's page selling the dvd's and RMA statement on it...jeebus.
It also seemed that she didn't want to understand that while the dvd's
WORKED, they weren't the same quality as what I have used 100's of times, that I was retuning them on this basis-and kept insisting that if they tested out 'ok' that these same discs were going to be sent back to me...aiiiieeee!!! I then asked her to put me in touch with their tech people tha would be testing these so I could find out HOW they would be tested...and as it turns out, mr someone-else dude told me that she basically LIED to me, and they don't test returned discs there. lovely.)
aforementioned somedude at newegg also actually told me to not communicate with mrs wang anymore, and that he would personally see to it that I got a replacement 100pk, and seemed genuinely interested in what my problem was, so I provided a link to some k-probe scans for him. Basically I had to explain to him that I was used to seeing GREAT results from this particular kind of disc, so when it goes to $hi**y and it's the exact same brand, I have to think that I either got a bad batch, or there's something funny going on. I hope the former. Anyhoo, I'll find out when I get the replacement 100 and kprobe them...
