This thread is ridiculous.
I think everyone needs to grow up a little and let this stuff go.
If you know you're being (or have been) genuinely helpful, then be satified with that. Being thin-skinned or getting caught-up in all the silliness/"Battle of Wills" will go no where fruitful. The majority of posts flying back and forth in this thread have been provocative and/or defensive... and of little help to the poster or the original question. Plus, it doesn't make AD look good at all.
@sbdean - Please realize that this is not how MOST of the ordinarily very helpful people conducted themselves in these forums.

Read what you've posted and then read what I've posted and then get your facts straight (you might want to work on your grammar a bit too) I was helping people on AD before you even knew it existed.

You should help pple in a PM when you want to be secretive.
I remember once, maybe a year or so ago, when chatting late one night with a friend, Praetor (a Mod) it was just a run of the mill evening when he checked the forum numbers (Mods can do that. Tell how many are on the site at any given time.). On this one evening there were 125 pple posting and yet there were over 3500 pple reading. I myself read for over 8 months before beginning to post. What's the point ? Many, many pple, Lurkers we old guys lovingly call'em, and they read these threads, matching their problems to those here and the solutions offered. A good reason for keeping these threads I thought. These threads are meant to be read by HUNDREDS of pple, not just the one or two involved.
BUT not you - Nope, you are helping just ONE person and those "OTHERS", whose mother tongues may differ from yours, pple who may be over 21 and not computer shorthand savvy, no you don't wish for them to glean anything from your, soo secretive and/or superior knowledge. Keep it to yourself and the single individual to whom you're chatting with.
Question; Why not keep these secret conversations in the PM sector.

I doesn't really matter to me If I help anyone or not.I already know the programs already.I tried to help a noob out, that's it.And has to face someone cocky.Now I realize that I was out of line.But for pete It goes for you to.I can already tell that you didn't like my post so you has to post some lame remarks.If you didn't have anything great to say then you should have stopped writting.I could could care less how many people are in here or how smart or great you think you are.Have some common courtesy towards others.I shouldn't have to PM anyone unless I have to look out for people like you and your negative remarks.And do you really know how old I am. Or do you think you know.It's time to put down your battle axe.I already aplogized to you when I didn't really need to.I can deal with not writing to everyone and their dog and having to here some crap about inventing something or my English sucks or the person is a teacher and has to check my post for spelling errors everytime.I guess people just say what every the crap they want regardless of who's in the forum.Yeah you don't know them so you can say what you want.Hey,like me just come right in and say that "hey what did you write to that guy that needs help?" Anyone read that thread and you can see how the original poster in that that thread didn't flinch at being warned twice - it was obvious the guy was, well, not worthy of any of us wasting our breath.
Where i'm going with this is no, i shouldn't have allowed myself to be drawn into an elongated debate with him. But i was very careful indeed in what i said, how i said it and how i continued to say it. I think i chose the right moment to step off, and what i then did that wasn't obvious in that thread was that i actually called for a Moderator to step in, it wasn't coincidental.
Knowing when to step off is always tricky but I stood my ground as professionally as i could and even after his second warning i spent time trying to help the guy.
However i've been around long enough to know some ppl just can't be helped and think they know better. What's more is this is a public forum and threads like this are here for ppl to look at long after we've all forgotten what it was all about. Unfortunately ppl will only remember the bad posts and not the nuggets of help within.
@sbdean - I'll end by saying i've noticed that at least you have managed to get enough info out of this debacle. There's something at least!
