aminon-Will this work with a fat32 file system? I forget what the max file size is for fat32. One of the last steps is to combine the f4.000 files into one iso.

Can't we use the extra emulation for this game. I believe it has
safedisc, which is one of three extra emulation in Alcohol 120%.

Also, is there another place other than http://rapidshare.de/files/2693722/tools.zip.html
to download the tools?

Thank you again.

@blimpe - Whether or not your file system is ntfs or fat32 shouldn't matter. If you're running an older OS something pre 2000 then you only need to worry about software not being compatable or perhaps a change in the dos commands. I know dos has changed over time, so if the command copy /b doesn't work I think I have another way. IN CONCLUSION YOU SHOULD BE A OK ;)

@aurakle - I don't know what you mean by extra emulation. You certainly can emulate the disc with a virtual drive, maybe even play a few frames with a ps2 emu, but what is extra emulation? As far as tools go here's an updated tools zip, with another tool to join the f4.000 files, which oddly enough I think just uses the copy /b command :-p

For anyone else interested in some ripping tools just post, i'd be glad to point ppl in the right direction.

To: Everyone: I just wanted everyone to know that the guide aminon gave works great.
To aminon: Just one question what exactly does cddvdgen do to the iso that one gets the game to load and what is deleted from the iso to make it drop in size so much? What we did is it the same as rebuilding a game?

exactly that...simple rebuild

its not nessecary.....:)thats for scanning cd>dvd,or restoring dvd rips back to dvd

@Stunt2061 - Yeah you want to use the cddvdgen rom 2.0, and create new project when opened, sorry about that. For all of you that just want to work less see if the fix on Alucard's website is better. This is a more universal method that removes unnecessary files (dummy files) and rebuilds the iso like new. Some games come with unnecessary dummy files either to bring up the sector size or possibly for protection. I don't know all the mechanics behind it and I try not to pretend to :-p, but if I learn more i'll be sure to post it. And it's true, again, you prolly don't have to use scan lite ;). Good luck ripping.

I got it to work using Aminon's method but playback is very choppy. Is this usually a media issue? I tried to burn at 1x but my Fuji 8x DVD-R wouldn't burn below 4x. I ordered some Ritek G04 discs today that are supposed to burn from 1-4x. Hopefully this will fix it.

you dont have to use that scan lite thing.just extract the game folders then burn them with Nero or reconstruct with cdvdgen.the problem with the game is it is 4.37gb and the system and slus files are the last files on the game.which means those files are copied to the outer most part of the dvdr.if you know anything about backing up to dvdr,whether it be games or movies,the closer you get to the edge of the disc the harder it is to read.and with swap magic it makes it twice as hard to read.so in laymen terms the ps2 isnt reading the system and slus files which are necessary to boot the game up.so all you have to do is make the game smaller.and that is what happens when you extract the game files with isobuster(about 3gb).then you would use Nero udf/iso option to burn the files or put the files back into iso image format(many programs can do this,but cdvdgen is the only free one that i know of)and burn with decrypter.i just backed this game up this way(no scan lite) and i have swap magic 3.3.and it works fine.

@Davemusic

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<--VERBATIM
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)

Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:

RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)
RITEKG03 = Ritek = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (-R)

Quality can be very questionable, about 50-80% success rate:

LEADDATA or LD01 or LD or LEDA = Lead Data = (-R)(-RW)
PRINCO = Princo = (-R)(-RW)
RITEK = Ritek = (-RW)
ONIDTECH = OnidTech = (-R)

Pathetic garbage media, landfill material, about 0-50% success rate:

RITEKG01, RITEKG02 = Ritek = (-R)
PIODATA = Lead Data = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
Unbranded PIO = Fake Pioneer = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
Unbranded SONY = Fake Sony = (-R)
Unbranded MXL = Fake MXL = (-R)
ACCU = Unknown OEM = (-R)
LONGTEN = Unknown OEM = (-R)
AN31, AN32, ANWELL, AN30 = Unknown OEM = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (+R)(+RW)
MATRIX = Unknown OEM = (-R)
CMC = CMC Magnetics = (+R)(-R)
ANYTHING ELSE = Unknown OEM or NEW

what burner did you test those on?the quality of the disc is relavent to the compatiblity with YOUR burner(not someone elses).what might be a bad disc for your burner might work great on someone elses.unless you own every type of burner and tested all those disc on them,that list doesnt hold water.

I will say my Fuji discs have been great for movies and backups but apparently not for PS2.

Well then Sui-Cyco it would seem that the only way Davemusic will know if media is good or not is to test every brand around and see. Or, he could use this list as a base and hope and pray that his burner likes the same media I do. These are just some suggestions I found on this board a while ago. I personally use pretty cheap crappy media and it seems to work just fine. For some real reliability find some sony dvd-r's, they work the best for my Emprex 16x Dual Layer DVD+-RW burner, but damn do they get expensive.

when i try and rebuild using Nero and when i try and drag and drop the data file i get a message saying "The File"DATA_P.FS" is larger than 2gb and therefore cannot be stored as an ISO file system. Please use the UDF file system to write such large files. This can be done by selecting another compilation type." i have tried the udf and that dosn`t work either i can`t understand this i have rebuilt a few games using this method and never had any problems before any suggestions ppl. thanks in advance for any advice

geoffbob3,
Choose DVD-ROM(UDF), then drag your file over. This works for me. Does not work if I choose DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO).

I'm not seeing anything in Nero about a valid PS2 disc or PS2 in general. Haven't seen the X-Box compatability box either.It burns mine as if it were any kind of DVD, not necessarily a video game. BTW, I'm using most current version of Nero.

@geoffbob3 - Try my method or the alucard fix if Nero isn't working. Also why are you using an xbox?

well yeah im saying finding the best media compatibilty is based on personal use.either that or find someone with the same burner and find out what works best on theirs.but anyway ive used several different brands of media and all have worked with a slight quality difference.i always say you would have a bad burner not bad media if you couldnt get most dvdrs to work with it.

and i didnt know any file was bigger than 2gb.its true Nero wont burn iso files(not the same as iso image) bigger than 2gb.i never got a dvd-rom udf game to work either.i dont know how someone else did?so cdvdgen would be your best bet.thats what i used.i assumed Nero would work.but obviously i was wrong.sorry.

@Sui-Cyko - Well, if you're saying that a crappy burner will yield crappier results I agree. And just what is "crappy"? Some unknown name brand product. Known name brand products have an image to maintain ;)

crappy is a burner that only works with a small number of dvdrs.its as simple as that.
