You guys are all crazy. The DVD burner is really the issue. Some work better than others with certain media. I have used the most expensive and the cheapest DVD-Rs and no issue. I have a Pioneer burner that came with my SONY PC. All this TY v. CMC is BS. Try the media and if it works for you use it. Also use a slower burn if you want better longevity and a guaranteed burn to a DVD.

I used to think the same peterk727. I used Memorex for the longest time. They were in fact RicohJpnR01. Back then 4x media was $2/disc on sale. After a long run, I got some Memorex "CMCMags", a whopping 50% failure rate, not at the outer edge but in the middle. It wasn't the burner, it's still going strong. Needless to say, I haven't even looked at Memorex since.

I guess one has to experience for one's self to find out the real truth of BAD MEDIA? The regulars here are just trying to save people the grief.

I also have had bad luck with the TTG02 media. My NEC 2510 does not like it at all. I bought a bunch of it on sale and tried everything to get it to work. I tried all speeds and several firmwares. I ended up taking it back. If I remember correct, one of the Mad Dog firmware versions worked the best, but still pretty poor results in my opinion. My NEC usually is not picky when it comes to media, but it does not play well with the TDK TTG02 at all. I would look elsewhere for media. I think Staples has their 50 pack Sony's for $15 this week.

TDK media, especially their OWN MANUFACTURED ones SUCK~! end of story...i have horror stories from MY OWN EXPERIENCE where they would not work on like 5 different drives...Pioneer, Liteon, Sony, NEC, Benq...the list goes on...

i would buy CMC MAG Memorex at this point in time before i would ever consider TDK's crap again...obviously this is MY OWN OPINION of TDK and nobody else's...

i've tried more different kinds of media than MOST people probably ever will in their lifetimes, to say i am RIGHT about my opinion, maybe or maybe not for everyone else's setup/configuration...but, for those that know me on here...i do NOT try to steer people in the WRONG direction regarding media...i have thousands of backups to prove WHY i use only quality media like Taiyo Yuden (all formats and rated speeds, unbranded or Fuji/Sony branded MIJ), Verbatim MCCs, and even a few of the Maxell's MIJ (either format made by Hitachi)...

so, take all the opinions with a grain of salt...i, for one, will NEVER spend a single penny on TDK media, i'd much rather get some "memosux" or other CMC MAGs before i get the TTG01/TTG02/TTH01/TDK coded media again~

docTY~

p.s. everyone will have their OWN opinions regarding TDK media, it works for SOME and NOT for others (like myself) :) just adding MY opinion to this thread for people to make their own decisions.

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups
