Bought a two 25pk TDK 8x (one DVD-R and one DVD+R) at Circuit City for $7.49 each. The media code for the DVD-R is TTG02, is this TY? It's made it Taiwan though should I be worried? BUT the media code for the DVD+R is CMC Mag, WTF! This is the crappy one, right?

That's the crappier of the TDK plus format.
It's not total crap, just some burners and stand alone players have a more difficult time with them. They are usually best to avoid, because you can get better quality media for close to the same price.
Using cmag media, just make sure you burn them nice and slow/no background apps, and a reduced target of 4300 mbs. You may also not want to put anything important on them.

TTG02 is definitely NOT Taiyo Yuden media...while MANY others here have had outstanding success with TT coded media, i for one, HAVE NOT. i would NOT put them on the same level as Taiyo Yuden (TYG01/TYG02/YUDEN000T02) or Verbatim (MCC coded media)...i PERSONALLY even rank my Riteks above the TTG02 coding on MY OWN setup, this is just a PERSONAL opinion.
and with the CMC MAG crap in the bunch w/ TDK media, that is just another reason why i NEVER buy TDK...again, personal preference for MY setup. different medias work well with different people, i am just not too fond of TT coded media myself, others can use them all to their hearts content, but, i for one, look upon TDK media the same way i look @ memorex...which is NOT VERY HIGHLY~ :)
just my PERSONAL take on them...everyone is entitled to their OWN opinions as to what works for them...
Recommended Media:
Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Oh oh! Please stay away from them. Take it from someone that suffers badly buying 4-5 spindles (to save $ ironicly!!)of TDK -r and +r. They even have holes (yes for sure, if I know how I'd scan and post it here so you can see)in the burning surface and discs are either bad, cant burn or pixelated badly after 1 to 2 use. This is my own experience and I even email to TDK to complain, they did answer me and ask if I can send bad discs back so they can check it out but when I ask their address to send them back, I never heard from them again!

What's the manufacturers code on the disks? I am very curious. I have been using the TTG02 disks for quite a while now and they've been flawless. (DVD-R)

I, too, have nothing but success with the TTG02s from TDK. As I would with ANY media, read slow, burn slow.

hello everyone, i have a 25 pack of 8x tdk`s they are coded TTG02 from circuit city. They suck. By that i mean they are all bad. none of them work. They were also on sale. Ran a surface scan after i burned on them. Over 20% of the disk was unreadable. I guess you pay cheap, you get cheap.

Hi,
I have tried TDK disk x16 before at speed x4 with 50% chances of successful. Always stay out of TDK, Momorex DVD disks if you want better backup. The best dvd in the market are Verbratim-data life, Mitsubshi, and Taiyo Yuden, Fuji, Maxell.
Not all stand alone dvd player will play TDK dvd disk.

Hello henryting , Just letting you know my Trials so far with tdk . I don't know what dvd burner you are using and what standalones you are using the disks on , also i dont know what software you are using to burn your disks ? i am using DVD Decrypter and Nero to burn these on an NEC 3520 and just thought i would let you know my two cents thats all. i know i've only done about ten disks so we will see, but having said that , i know a lot of people have had great success with this media. If you go to -->> http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm , this media is still considered first class , so just because you are having problems with it does not mean everyone will? If you search this forum as i did before i bought tdk-r's you will see alot of good reviews about it . i have also seen people talk bad about TY disks and say they don't work with thier setup, so to each his own i was just giving my two cents worth that's all, sorry if i upset anyone/unjust

Well, it's all up to you. But I am talking about my experiences.
I have used the tdk disk (the old batches) with no problems.
Unjust2u, juz as a reminder I am talking about recent batches 16x tdk. Maybe, the 10 tdk disk that you have used are the previous batches. I will stick to verbratim, TY and Maxell like what our senior members saugmon, kivory666 had said. By listening to their advises and base on my own experiences things wont go wrong.
I hope my explanation wont upset you.
I always listen to our senior members and heed their advises when come to better quality dvd media esp kivory666 who have vast experiences of using dvd media.

Don't take all this so personally. I've used at least 200 of the TTG02 in the last couple months. Not a single coaster. If they don't work for you then by all means don't use them. Not all burners are created equal nor are the standalones. I've had severe problems with the 16x Verbatim +Rs but I'm not going to sit here and bash Verbatim. They don't work with my standalone. So they will remain on my shelf.
