One more thing, My bro (The biggest fan of Mac :P) said that Windows XP runs crappy on Dells and I would have to deal with it being like it, is it true, or is it a sh*t filled lie...

he's full of poop. dell doesn't use any cheaper hardware or software that would lead to crappier performance compared to any prebuilt compie company.
you should come up with a good comeback. what's he got on his mac? OSX? whatever OS he has, say something like, "yeah, you think XP will run crappy on that? just look how OSX runs on yours!" lol, i'm stupid 0_o

I bought my pc and laptop from Alienware, they are great for gaming, but also very reliable for work. Im in high school, but still use it to do projects and stuff and i'd never have problems. But its your decision, the only thing i tell you is not to buy compaq, dont you never ever ever ever buy a compaq

why would you never buy a compaq? I have a Compaq laptop and it has excellent reviews and a great rating. I love my laptop. There is another thread here at Afterdawn with a link to my review.

Well Auslander I will have to agree on your statement about XP being a A-ok system on the Dell, but My bro just got the new Tiger for Mac and it works well, maybe if I told you he only does cinematography on his Mac, no gaming etc...
btw: Thinking of getting T.V. tuner on dell, does it require any special requirements to have one...

it will definitely have a pci slot. check the specs for an AGP slot. it might be PCI-E, but i doubt it.

yes, depending on which pc you get, i assume the previous one you selected. you do have a pci express slot if you get the xps.

Build my own every two years. Give the old one away to friend or relative. Bad things about: Dell; proprietary motherboard and power supplies, and god knows what else. HP; doesn't keep their stuff current; friend had brand new one with a dvd writer that HP didn't ever create current firmware for, consequently he had to be very careful when buying blank media because the drive didn't support much. We had to go out and replace the HP dvd writer with a pioneer (of course, HP offered to 'upgrade' his BRAND NEW system with another crappy HP dvd writer for extra money, all after he only had the system for one month. Talk about planned obsolesence). Gateway; ships computers with stuff missing out of the boxes. Also, most of the big companies ship their computers with all the software 'preloaded' now; saves you time, but if you don't get the original installation disks, you're screwed whenever your computer gets screwed up by viruses, worms, spyware, etc.. Of course, as the closest thing to a geek that my friends know, I get to help solve all these screw ups by the above companies. Let the buyer beware. OR...buy from a local mom and pop computer shop that will make you a system from standard parts, and give you the software you pay for. If you are going to take it to school, it will be most importantly for schoolwork, and you should probably look into a lightweight notebook made by either Toshiba or one of the Thinkpads which are still the IBM design. I don't know anyone who has had trouble with either so far. Again, make sure to get the disks for the software you purchase.
Software that doesn't work, or decides on it's own to run all the time, sucks.

rihgt: in 2000, i got my first computer. it was a 700 MHz Gateway system with Windows ME. used that for 3 years, then got an HP Pavilion 735n, with XP Home and an Athlon XP 2600+. used that for 2 years, then fully built my own first system. i had practiced quite a bit on the previous two system, one of which is now becoming a server and the other sitting for my dad's use, respectively. My AMD FX-55 is working nicely :D
