I still think this could be a flash error. You need to burn the flash upgrade to a CD, not a DVD. Use these directions: Unzip the firmware file. Use Alcohol 120%. Open Alcohol 120%. Go to File-->Open and browse to the cue file. Double click it. Right click it and go to image burning wizard. Set the write speed to 4x, the write method to DAO/SAO, the data type to PS2, and select your recorder, click next.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on yer last comment Tokijin... He mentioned he has already installed BM and was able to load from it, but he gets the RSOD...
So I'm guessing it's the DVD wiring and quite possibly, his DVD media..
LOFTY - Try playing a CDR based game.. See if that works..

Well I'm not that familiar with the Crystal chip, I just know a common reason for not being able to play backups is the chip not being flashed properly. Besides which he said he had a pro install it, so the last thing he should do is mess around with the wiring unless he know's EXACTLY what he's doing. More than likely he'll just destroy a key path and be left with a PS2 that doesn't boot. If it is the wiring take it back to the guy who installed it, he'd know better than anybody what the problem is. Aside from that:
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, etc.

Straight from my mod guy: You need to use the hacked Crystal Chip firmware. You can find it here: http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloa... Scroll down to C, you may have to register with the site. From my mod guy: tell him to download the flash I gave you the link to site. Then install the mega boot manager found on the same page. It won't load PSX backups without the Memory Card. So Its better to use the hacked bios and bootmanager installer and then use the megabootpack without using the flash option. if he does it that way he will be able to play the ps1 games without the memory card. That's the best I can do. Straight from the horses mouth, good luck.

LOFTY - I didn't mean to play a PS1 game... I meant to play a PS2 game that is CDR and not DVD...
3 questions.... 1) Did you install it or someone else? 2) Which version of the Crystal is it? 3) Which version of BM did you install?
I personally have BM 1.6....

Then, I'm guessing that your wiring might've come undone... Hopefully the dude that did the install is close by cause he's gonna have to check it out..

That's the best solution. Have the installer check it out. If it is a minor wiring issue, it'll probably take him 20 minutes to fix. I had a minor issue with my PS2 when I first got it back. My Matrix wouldn't load backups at first, it was a minor issue which required me to send it back, now it works great.
