AFAIK, there is no consumer recordable DVD-18 media available. However, professionally replicated DVD-18s have been made since 1999. Here is a nice article on DVD-18s written in February 2000. http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FXG/is_2_13/ai_60003044 They also discuss the production process of DVD-18s.

As for converting DVD-18s to DVD-9s, it's the same as converting 2 different DVD-9s to 2 DVD-5s. Each side of a DVD-18 and DVD-10 acts as 2 seperate DVD-9s and DVD-5s respectively. The only difference is instead of physically occupying 2 discs, they occupy 1 disc.

So any method of downsizing a DVD-9 to a DVD-5 will work on a DVD-18. You'll just have to do it twice and will end up with 2 DVD-5s.

interesting read...now i am a LITTLE bit more informed about these dvd-18s, i can only IMAGINE how expensive they would be IF they were introduced to the consumer market...wow, i already think the regular DVD-9 DL media is pricey~ :)

So it looks like the newbie (me) had at least a partial clue. Not that it's significant in any way. ;)

I used DVD2One to combine The Director's cut of Dances with Wolves and then ran it through Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic and it looks good...very pleased with the picture on my 55 inch HDTV 16X9 set. DVD2One has a great joining feature that I really recommend to people at ad. Cost $ but worth it when it comes to combining two sided disks or multiple episodic shows.
