I am getting some Double Sided Dual Layered DVDs and and need to Make working Back up Copies.
Can DVD Shrink Handle this.
How is it possible to discriminate Between the Movies on the Dual Layered DVD and only Burn each Particular Movie Video and Audio to a Ordinary DVD-R.
If anybody can help I would appreciate it.

stogie00,
Welcome to the forum. I have never heard of D/L double sided disks but I suppose it is possible. Suggest you use DVDDecrypter to rip the disk to HD and then use Shrink. You can also use DVDFAB Decrypter to also rip to HD and both programs are free. Another alternative is to use AnyDVD ( driver based ripper) along w/ Shrink but it Cost $39.00 US.
If you want to rip the Disk to a D/L DVD you can use DVDDecrypter in Mode>iso read and then Mode > iso write.
Most people only burn the movie to a DVD-5 disk as the compression used could be too great and the quality suffers but it is done all of the time.
Hope I answered all of your questions

@stogie00, As Car.Mike mentione dthere are several great progs. that can do what you want. I know shrink, Recode 2, Intercopy 3, Clonedvd2 all allow you to eliminate the stuff you do not want (like the fullscreen presentation of the movie) and then compress to a DVD5. Arniebear got me hooked on using decrypter in ISO mode to read and write dl's and single layers as long as the disk will fit (It doesn't compress it!)

Thanks People,
Just so I know I got it right
Put the Dual Side/Double Layer Disc into the Drive
Open Decrypter
Select Mode>iso read (Goes to Hard Drive)
Select Mode>iso write (Goes to Burner)
Is the above Correct
What I want to Do is Take each Individual Movie and Back it up on a DVD-5 (Single Side/Single Layer)One Movie/One Disc.
Is it Possible to do this.
Is it Possible to Extract Each Movie ,To a DVD-5

stogie00 ,
Like I said I have never heard of theose disk's but :
1. DVDDecrypter should back the 1st side up to a folder on the C: drive in the name of the movie. If it does not then make a folder on the desktop and name that what ever the name of the movie is. Since you ar wanting to do DVD-5 then we will have to do this differently. You will use Mode>file>all files. Since you want to put each movie on a DVD-5 then they might need to be compressed.

How many movies are on this disk?

Below is a site that will give you instructions on how to use DVDDecrypter and Shrink and then you can burn using DVDDecrypter

double sided would be the same capacity as dual layer. but they do have dvds that are double sided, but those are only 4.7 on each side.

then you have dual layer... single sided..

what's the manafacturer on this one?

edit-

and if each side has its own movie.. you can do it as if it was a regular movie. just flip the disk over and do it again

Thanks for the On Going Help.
The Discs hold 4 Movies,With a Total Running Time of 250 Minutes or 343 minutes Depending on the Original Movie,They are a Series and are all Black and White.Around the 1950's
When I found out the Total Time I e-mailed the Seller and asked if they were indeed Dual Layer/Double Sided and if the seller knew what Brand they were.
But as the Work Day is not finished here it might take a while to get an answer. This being a Friday Night and all
I contacted a Store that is Franchised under the Name of Harvey Norman.
The Tech Bloke said that they were Originally produced for Keeping Data/Backups ,At 8gigs Per side and the Price was Australian$30-$35 each.
He admitted to never seeing one,Only hearing about them,He also said that He was sure that Verbatim and TDK where the Only Companies that Produced them.
But reading "thelox714" put payed to that.
Unless Verbatim is only Testing them in Australia.
But then why are they Region 1
The Seller in the Ad stated that the "DVD IS AN AUTHENTIC U.S. REGION 1 STUDIO RELEASE"
Below is the Copy/Paste from the ad
Features Region 1
Digipak with Outer Box
Full Frame - 1.33
Dual Layer/Dual Side
Audio:
Dolby Digital 2.0 - Mono - English
If you want the Address to see for your selves ,Just ask
I will have to wait on the Seller or if I win the Items.
Then I can try and find out what Brand they actually are.
What ever happens I will keep you Posted.

OK, I am a rank newbie so take that into account when reading my response, but it sure sounds like there is a communication break-down going on here. It doesn't sound like the media you're talking about being for sale/auction is blank media at all. Why would the ad mention "studio" or anything about the sound? If I had to guess, I'd say that there is no such thing, at least today, as blank dual-SIDED recordable DVD media. But then again I am a rank newbie.

Since I'm typing this here I will mention the reason I'm poking around regarding dual-layer media. I just got an iMac and Toast 7 and I'm very interested in being able to make uncompressed backup copies of movies on DVD. I understand capacity well enough to know that most movies won't fit uncompressed on a standard DVD+R or DVD-R. I bought a 3-pack of Memorex DVD+R DL (dual layer) and tried burning one disk. The result was failure during verification and then a disk that appears OK at first when played in a stand-alone machine, but which quickly starts acting like the disks my kids have used as frisbees (i.e., freezing, distortion, etc.) I have read about the brand of the media making a big difference, so is that most likely my problem here? Best Buy has a 15-pack spindle of Memorex DVD+R DL on sale for $30 this week, but do you indeed get what you pay for? Does anyone know how to identify the blank disk manufacturer on a Mac? I am probably going to post this same inquiry as a separate post elsewhere, which I hope is not a serious violation of forum etiquette. Thanks in advance for your help!

I know the double sided dual layer media exists, because my wife just bought The Michael Flatley Collection which was on this media. Both sides were 2 layers. At first I thought someone glued two dual layer disks together. I did not know it was available retail though, as I have not seen it in the States.

arniebear,
Thanks for the info and I stand corrected

MrKarst ,
You would be better off asking that question in the Mac forum as you are in the Windows forum
I googgled for a "DVD Identifier for Mac" and came up w/ this for you:

Hope this helps and I hope there is an English version

dual layered is possible.. single sided.

the new thing now is making them double sided and each side dual layered. so that means it would be about 17gbs each disc.

update: i just did email the rep for verbatim. and will post her return email.

I use to love DMX years ago. His new album I sadly think was terrible. The beats were terrible. He was so huge and could have been a truly incredible rapper but the drugs and legal troubles held him back. So sad.

Hello - we do not have a Double Layer Double-sided Disc. I don't think there is such a thing. We do have:

95165 - DVD-R 4X Dual Layer 8.5GB 3Pk Jewel Case
This is a double layer single sided. The -R group calls their version Dual Layer.

94777 - DVD-R 2X 9.4GB Double-sided 40Pk Spindle
This is a single layer double sided disc - 4.7GB per side.

95166 - DVD+R 6X Double Layer 8.5GB 10Pk
This is a double layer single sided disc. The +R group calls their version Double Layer.

94669 - DVD+R 2.4X 9.4GB Double-sided 40Pk Spindle
This is a single layer double sided disc - 4.7GB per side.

Waka - have you heard of anything that is double layer, double sided?

i have contacted my rep. from Taiyo Yuden and she was really surprised to hear me asking such a question, as this was a first for her too~ :) at THIS moment in time, TY does NOT have a double sided/dual layer disc and as far as SHE KNOWS (my rep. from TY); she hasn't heard about Taiyo Yuden starting production of them anytime soon either~ :)

this whole "double sided/dual layered" debate MIGHT be pointing towards the higher capacity Blu-Ray and HD dvd discs that are going to come out fairly soon...i don't know if THIS is similar, but the storage capacity is MUCH higher and COULD possibly be what stoogie00 is talking about...would need to see a link to the ACTUAL discs in question to confirm anything else concrete~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Hi People,
I have emailed the seller to Get Confirmation of the Brand Name and If they are really Double Sided/Dual Layered.
His answer below
>>>>>hi, there is no brand, i dont think this is a DVD18 if i remember correctly but i might be wrong, there are only a few movies that have been dvd18 one that i definitely remember was Terminator 2 the ultimate edition with the metal case that was a dual sided dual layer disc. you will find alot of people that are in forums usually are there to find something out themselves, so alot dont know about certain things, but there are quite a few in forums that do. i have been in the dvd business for too many years now, the dvd18 is not a very rarely used disc but they are great<<<<<<

But I did a Google search for "Double Sided Dual Layered Recordable DVDs"

After all that about an Hour searching here is a Link that specifically mentions DVD-18

http://chudingyu.trustpass.alibaba.com/product/11105978/CD_DVD_Re...
and here is their web address
