One more guide
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20Decrypter&Shrink.pdf
Decrypter is a ripper and a burner, it will rip those disks that Shrink cannot handle the protection on and then you use Shrink to compress it to fit a DVD5 disk.
You might want to read the newbie thread in my sig, it has a lot of information in it about burning, settings and programs :)

You should be able to watch, unless there is some error. You can delete it from your files, but I would wait until you watched it to make sure.

Last night when I got home I went to burn a movie first I tried it using shrink and Nero 6. After awhile it said operation complete but when I put it in my DVD player it said no disk so I tried it on my dvd rom and still nothing. So then I tried burning it using decrypter and shrink then burning it and still the same situation. So one more time I tried just burning it using decrypter and nothing each time it said operation complete. The movie is still on my hard drive is there something that I am doing wrong. Please help this burner wasn't really cheap it is a sony 720a installed through the USB port on my HP A31N desktop did I miss something either when installing the burner or something else. Also does anyone know how to burn using Nero Express.

mbchand ,
Now that we know it is an external unit , are you sure the usb port works properly and the usb cables are good. If this continues then I would suggest you take the computer and burner in to the PC Doc and have them look at it. Suggest you go to a Mom and Pop repair shop. Tell them what you are doing and see if they can do it. Some externals ( yours really is an internal that was modified to be an external)do cause problems for people.
Below is a guide for using Nero Burning Rom. Theory should be the same

Car.Mike is right check the cables. If you have access to another computer then plug the drive into it and see how the drive does. This way you can figure out it it is the drive or some other conflict.

The other day I copied a bunch of my pictures on to a dvd making a slide show using Nero. and the slide show I made works fine in my computer and dvd player. If someone I know has one the the burning programs that allows you to burn any movie how would they make a copy for me to install it on my computer.

mbchand,
It is called a Diskcopy. They copy the program to a CD and You then install it. If it requires any special numbers to activate it then they will have to provide you w/ those numbers. This forum will not provide Hacks that enables you to activate the software. If you ask you can be banned so please do not ask for them

What do you need to make a backup copy of a software. Just a cd burner. How do you copy software on to a cd for backup. Back to my dvd burning problem if I can put photos on to a dvd using Nero and make a slideshow through my dvd burner drive then the cables should be fine. Or may they still have problems

What does anyone know about CopyToDVD I seen that you can download it for free from dvdsoft.net. Does anyone know a good site to look for free dvd burning software that might help me with my burning problem. I know my dvd player plays burnt dvds because my friend has given me some.

CopyToDVD is not a free program, it does have a trial period. It is a program similiar to Nero in that it does slideshows, data, has blindwrite, copies DVD's and CD's. But it does not break encryption and will not compress you would still have to do this with Decrypter and Shrink. You can also dl, AnyDVD and CloneDVD which will give you a 21 day trial period. AnyDVD will break encryption and Clone will compress and burn. You can try and see if these programs work, however if it is a burner problem you will still end up with the same result. AnyDVD and CloneDVD are available here http://www.slysoft.com

Just uninstall the programs they all have uninstallers. If you want game burning then use Decrypter in iso read mode and then open the MDS file and use iso write mode. Or try the trial ver. of CopyToDVD which has Blindwrite. You can check if Blindwrite itself has a trial period. CloneDVD also has an iso mode and you can use that.

I am using TDK 16X DVD-R does that make a difference with how I burn dvds using shrink or decrypter?
Can a program be emailed to me by my friend so that I can download it to my computer you dont need any numbers to activate it?
If I am still having problems would my locale radioshack be able to help me make sure everything is working properly?

I-link is another name I think for firewire cable and I have both on my computer. Use what ever one you need w/ the external burner. I use the firewire for the digital camcorder and usb for everything else like printer, scanner.
Tdk is not the best media in the world but if you were happy w/ the results then by all means use it. I use Taiyo Yudens and Verbatim and I hold the burn speed to 4X.
Under Device Manager do you have this: IEEE 1394 bus host controllers. If you do then you can use the i-link or firewire . If not then you can not use it. If you have it it is either on the front of the computer or the back
Forget RadioShack and try a local computer store ( not BestBuy or Circuit City) and have them look at the system
