Hi Mr_Pink,
You,re welcome and don't worry about the exe file having to be run each time it is opened. Once you select DVD+R to be booktyped dvd-rom it is stored in the eeprom or memory of your drive and will remaim that way unless you set it back. Glad to see that it worked. You're backups will now be as compatable as possible with set top dvd players. Remember to always use good, high quality media and keep burn speed to 4x or slower especially on dl media. You can always try some 6x or 8x burns on quality media if you are having good success at 4x.

Thanks again for the quick responses.
I've always used FujiFilm, and after checking the make of them via the DVDIdentifier, it turns out they were the TYs--I guess that's why I never had a problem with them.
But then Kivory, and everyone else here, mentioned how great Verbs are. I finished the remaining discs of the 100-pack of Fuji DVDs, sold my unopened 50 pack of them, and bought a 100-pack of Verbs for 45 on amazon. I've run into no problems ;)
Thanks again.

Good tip! Thanks.
Is there a way to figure out the "code" or the actual name of the discs without checking them with these programs? Meaning, is there a sign on the labeling that can tell me? I'm pretty sure bestbuy won't allow us to purchase them, open 'em, test 'em, and return them lol.
Kivory mentioned that on the Verbs i can look for where it's manufactured: Taiwan, Singapore etc.

as far as i know, unless you have inner hub ring numbers memorized, you can only id media with these proggies....
but, i will tell you this, both best buy and circuit city will refund or exchange your media within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. i know, cuz i have done it before. as soon as i get home with a new spool, i id the media, and if it is not choice media, i simply return it that day. but the store is only like 3 miles away, so its no biggie.
the last spool of fuji's i bought coded out as the ritek 03, but the one before that coded as yuden 02, and those happen to say made in japan on the label, but this recent purchase was made in taiwan, and were riteks.

I've just found out about booktyping today by reading posts. I'm installing a benq 1640 tomorrow and use clone dvd2. I know I need to get DVD+R blank media. So my question would be with what I have, what exactly do I need to do, so the DVD+R discs come out as dvd-rom? It sounds like that is the way to go, I just am not sure how to set it up.

Thanks, I'm not at home with any of the programs, so I was running a little blind, especially since I have never even heard of book typing before today. I think I should just stop posting and absorb all the good info. I received today.
Thanks again.

You're welcome. Just open the booktype utility manager after you download qsuite and have your new benq DW1640 installed. Make sure you have the benq selected and then select change to dvd-rom if not already selected. Pretty simple and self explanitory proggy. Note: make sure the jumper on back your new drive is set correct.

Thanks for all the good info. everyone. I just installed the benq1640 and a liteon dvd-rom. Copied my first movie(Longest Yard) took 15 minutes, used to take over an hour and now I can fire and forget with clone dvd, just put the original in the rom, the blank in the burner come back and it is done. I did not know about any of this until I read some of the responses. Everyone on here is great and I appreciate the opportunity to glean all this good information from the more experienced users out there.
Thanks again.
PS the 1640 does booktype to dvd-rom by default.

Also, if set under one proggy will the burner carryover those parameters to a different proggy?

9mmruger1,
Not usually. What burner are you using? Is you burner listed here, if so, you should be able to permanently booktype it?
http://codeguys.rpc1.org/dvdrw_overview.html
Or maybe you need a firmware update?
Good luck,
Rich

9mmruger1,
I saw someplace about your drive having the ability to bitset to DVD-ROM, but unfortunately I cannot find it, now.
I would do a search on this site for your drive, and if that fails do one on cdfreaks.
Sorry for not being more helpful,
Rich

As I recall, the LG GSA-4163 does not booktype +RW, just +R and +R DL.
But it is worth a try.
However, if that is the only way to booktype it (with a .bat file), what I would do is create a bat file that booktypes it, and then runs your favorite backup program(s), automatically everytime you go to backup.

Rich

I DO use DvdInfoPro to set booktype on my LG 4163B. I'm not very computer savvy, and did run into problems using Shrink/Nero. When I fooled around with the settings in Nero, I had problems with the booktyping and had to do a Acronis System Recovery, from the secure partition, to get things back to normal. I prefer to use DVDXCopyRF/Anydvd (generally movie only), for the time being. I'll wait for DL discs to go down in price before backing up my episodes. Setting the booktype in DvdInfoPro works best for ME.
No, unfortunately this drive does not booktype +RW's.

@Mort81
In your experience if using dvdinfopro to set the booktype of the GSA 4163B would the "set" carry over to CloneDVD2?
Opinions welcomed.
I am really wanting to make sure that my backups are booktyped to dvd-rom so that the will play in my childrens players.

9mmruger1,
Well, I am not Mort, but the answer is no, it will not permanently booktype your drive. Go get a BenQ 1640 drive for around $40, they come booktyped as DVD-ROM. Actually, there alot of drives that can be booktyped.
Good luck,
Rich
