IF You wnat some peace of mind and still be able to RIP COPY AND BURN DVD MOVIES please follow the following:
Have your self a 6 or upper version of Roxio, and Install DVDRegion Free, and once you have these 2 software Use ROXIO DISC COPIER and you will live in peace, it will automatically Transcode even a 10GB dvd into 4.7 GB, skipping all copy right errors.

Further more it also gives you an Option if you click the option button on the Disc Copier window to skip Menues and Extras and just copy the actual movie, so that your DVD movies will be as good as possible.

Hope I am not doing any thing illegal here coz I am posting some already posted links that i got by using search engines:

ROXIO 7.5:
http://trial.roxio.com/uk/creator75uk.exe
http://www210.fixdown.com/semc7506-2005-04-13.rar

Dvd Region Free:
http://69.73.173.59/download/DVDRegionFree59.exe
http://69.73.173.59/download/DVDRegionFreeLite59.exe

Cheers and Enjoy.

Once Again ROXIO IS THE BEST, but Roxio should do something about piracy......, to keep up it sales, Don't worry Roxio I have always had a lic copy of yours, and will Upgrade to 8 soon.

I was able to use Nero to burn a data DVD with no problem on the TDK disc...although the lead-in and lead-out seemed to take forever, it was still successful.

I'm going to borrow my friend's Sony dual layer dvd burner and see how that goes with the TDKs and Fuji's.

I also ordered some of those Taiyo discs so I'll give those a shot as well before I'd go get another burner.

Any other ideas? Why would I have no trouble burning a data dvd, but a video dvd has been making me a nice stack of coasters?

I just tried that imgburn program and it doesn't do a damn thing for me. It won't let me pick the disc drive as the source when I put a DVD in. It only has the disc drive as the output source, and i can't figure out how to select the DVD drive as the source to read it or whatever.

Doesn't make sense. And the "guide" on the imgburn.com website is rediculous. Completely useless as far as helping figure it out.

Ok, I got my friends Sony external burner hooked up and it works becuase I am able to watch the DVD from the drive, but in Shrink, I can't pick the external drive as the target when I go to backup.

http://www.nfusegfx.com/shrink/shrink.jpg

There's what I'm seeing. It shows my internal drive, but I Can't pick the external as the target. I am able to read from the external however, and use that as the source...but I still can't pick it as the target...

What's the deal with that?

Ok, just for kicks I hooked the external burner up to my laptop, which only has a DVD reader. I installed Shrink and it was able to have the external as the target, so it's running now. I put the original in the laptop DVD reader drive and imported, now it's in the analyzing phase of burning to the external. If this works, I'll wait and see if those Taiyo discs give me any luck on my desktop when they come later this week hopefully, and if not, I'll just get an external and use my laptop and say screw the desktop.

Anyone have a clue why my desktop wouldn't let me select the external as the target? See my previous post for a screen cap of what it shows me when I try to switch from the default internal drive. The drop down box is empty as if there is no other drive, so I can't switch target to the external...

let us know how it goes and with the new media good luck and do not use roxio it will mess up your Nero. Also some externals bogg your system down unless they are firewire usb is a little bit slower than firewire. but good luck

If you would have bothered to read the ImgBurn website, you would have read that it cannot "read" or "decrypt" DVD's. It is only a "Burning" application. It burns ISO Image files, not .VOB files. Again, ImgBurn is a "Burning" program, not a "Ripper"! You were having a burning problem, so that is why it was recommended.

Ahh, ok my bad, I read it wrong...I read on the imgburn site that it said it picks up where Decrypt leaves off, blah blah, so I figured it was a one in all.

I'll give that a shot on my desktop after using Decrypt to make an ISO of it without the menu/features and whatnot as desired. I'll do that while I wait for the Taiyo discs to show up.

Again, thanks for the help, I really hope I can figure out what's going on with my desktop because using an external on my laptop is a pain. I think it didn't work on the desktop because my desktop is older and the USB isn't 2.0, but on my laptop the USB is 2.0 so it's faster...maybe the desktop couldn't support it or whatever...who knows...

One thing is for sure...computers are voodoo witchcraft.

Ya, I think I got it confused with another program actually...Roxio in fact...somewhere that's an all in one...I think with everyone suggesting things, I was mixing up info of both programs.

My bad.

Honestly, I think your burner is on its way out (or already left). Your entire log looks good. Try a different burner.

ShockTXB,
I have this problem before, and I was damn mad at that moment not knowing what to do. I approached an expert who told me that the life span of the dvd writer had reached its limit.
I eventually change to new dvd writer to benq 1620 and upgrade my firmware and upgrade my sys to windows xp pro and xpsp 2 problems solved. And at the same time I also make sure that I am on DMA mode.
I felt that it is time to change your burner. I strongly recommend benq 1640 the best so far that I can see.

If you don't want to speed alot of money, a NEC 3540A is a great burner. On top of that, you can get one at newegg.com for under $39 with free shipping. I just bought 2. They will also rip very fast with modified firmware installed. I can rip a DVD-9 aka "Dual Layer" DVD in about 9 to 10 minutes. They also support Bitsetting.

You can get one here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152047

I'm not sure I want an internal...only reason being the desktop I have is on its way out as well. So I was looking at this...which I could use with my desktop and my laptop.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-External-Double-Layer-DVD-RW-...

I'm not sure what the difference is between that and this model:

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-External-Dual-Layer-DVD-R-RW-...

But I don't know if I really wanna get an internal.

Oh also, I am soon to be getting a PowerMac (one of the new quads) for my work. Can I use shrink and whatnot on a PowerMac to backup DVDs or is that an entirely different process (I'm gonna be new to mac)
