i am using 100proofnews.com,and that has bad ratings according to your link,
relativley new to me,and not quite got the full jist of it yet
any more info on this retention thingy?...is this the amount of time the server holds the info for?,and what difference dos it make if it low or high retention?

I just use my ISP news server which is free. If I ever want files that are a few days old, because my ISP only has a retention of 4 days, then I use astraweb which is $10 for 25GB. But I dont use astraweb very often so for me it works out great. Download games in about 8 hours, movies in about 10-12.
Edit (Didnt see Hursty's last reply). The retention is how long the file stays on the server. So say a PS2 game gets posted on my ISP news server, retention is 3-4 days. After those 3-4 days you wont be able to download it anymore. On astraweb retention is 3 weeks sometimes 4 if its being generous.
Hursty, as for damaged file, just download QuickPar, scan the download and repair anything thats broke. And check out newzbin.com for an category index of what gets posted and on what group. Hope I am allowed to link to that site.

I don't quite get it.
So say you use Azureus,what do you use fot this?
Say you use www.mininova.org,what do you use for this?

yeah,i have that already,but often i have damaged rars or rars missing
sometimes there is enough par's to repair,sometimes not
i have had couple of downloads that have had about 3 rar segments missing
where the uploader hasnt ran a sfv check before posting,and has completely wasted my time
newsgroups,from what i am finding so far,have lots of pro's and con's
speed is great,but realibilty is ummmm,questionable at times

thats for downloading torrents,which is different to newsgroups

i started a thread on this but no1 replyed mayb sum1 here can help....
I am in the uk and my isp is tiscali, i have the 2 mbps broadband package with the speedtouch 330 modem, which has a usb wire that connects to my computer and a phoneline wire which connects into a filter, then into my phoneline box. I use Limewire for filesharing and Azureus for bit torrent files. Whenever i use limewire no matter what file size i always get my full speed of 250 kbps, but when i use Azureus (and other BT clients) if im downloading a small file size eg. 50mb i get my full speed but if im downloading a large file size eg. 200mb i get speeds of 30 kbps. I am using the port 6882 and have done the NAT/Firewall test on Azureus and it says the ports OK. I do not use windows firewall but i do use norton internet security 2006 with that firewall on.

what ports ??? i have windows firewall turned off and my norton firewall does not affect the speed of the download weather its turned on or off
