If the release date for the PS3 is supposed to be out this spring and there is no info about the machine at CES than when are we going to hear about a release date and price?

Sony is playing with us. They should be able to give us something solid by now, if they do plan to release the damn thing in this spring. They are playing with us.

yeah that was a little disapointing for me, but i am interested in what M$ had to offer with all their products like the media centre pc and the thing which reads what your phone displayes, stuff like that. also they said that the xbox 360 will have a hard drive whic is cool.

I think we've all been strung along. The annoucements at CES regarding HD-DVD player and Blu Ray player pricing just confirms it. If the Samsung BR player will be selling for $1800 (for the 1080p player, which supposedly will be in the PS3) this spring, then there is NO F-NG WAY the PS3 is coming out this spring. I even think it's unlikely it will come out this summer with all of the features we're expecting at a price we're expecting ($500-$600).
What I've learned from CES: We need to throw out all of our preconceptions about the launch of an entertainment console. This is going to be very different.
Ironically, I think we will look back on this period and reminisce about how forthcoming and responsive M$ was with their system and how deceptive Sony has been. I get the sense Sony is just fanning the uncertainty because if consumers knew the truth (console with Blu-Ray = $995, and/or launch date = November 2006) many more people would buy xbox360s in the intervening period.
Sony won't tell us the truth because we can't handle the truth.

Do you remember how much DVD players where when they came out? Do you remember how much the ps2 costs? WEll? You, trust me now, the blueray reader is way overpriced. What you just said right now is that the blueray costs more than the consol. The ps3 will never sell 900$. Sony is smarter than taht

""We are still stumped on the launch date for PS3, as there are so many conflicts. Sony told us a few days ago that Spring 2006 was still the launch window, however, they also told another source that the PlayStation 3 will be unveiled at E3 this year. E3 happens in May, late Spring, early Summer. Some gamers speculate that maybe Sony means a Japan launch first in the Spring, then North America and Europe.""
In may................................:'( i posted this on ps3 vs xbox360, but i think it would belong here

sony angers me right now...
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

KoOkOo67,
Actually, I didn?t remember the price DVD players and PS2s sold for when they were released, so I went to Wikipedia -- http://en.wikipedia.org -- and found out.
When the PS2 was released in October 26, 2000 it sold in the US for $299. At that time DVD players were selling for well under $300. In fact, the price of a DVD player had dropped below $300 a full 18 MONTHS before the PS2 went on sale for that price ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvd ). According to another archiving resource : http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.5 -- DVD players were selling for under $100 by the end of 2000 (when the ps2 was released).
Clearly, Sony is not going be offering a Blu-Ray PS3 for under $1,000 in the next six months.
We?ve been blinded by wishful thinking. My new plan is to really save up and buy a dirt bike (Honda CRF450X) rather than gaming console. However, if I was still wanting a gaming console I would buy an xbox360 as soon as I could find a premium package going for retail, play it for a year, then re-sell it used on e-bay and use the funds towards a newly released PS3. The xbox50 would probably loose only $50-$100 in value in 12 months. Retail price drops for the PS2 didn?t occur until 18 months after its release date? again wikipedia.
BTW in my search for info I also found archives indicating that the devoted public (people like us) had been expecting PS2 USA release in December 1999 because of Sony?s hints.

The ps2 wasnt 399.
Heck in canada they were 529.99$ for the first year.
Now DVD players cost 1000-2000$ when they came out.
maybe even more.
In 1997 they were 1000$ according to your article.
Ps2 was still being made in 1997. Heck it was being made not long before the psx.
1999, they were still selling dvd players for 400-1000$. PS2 sold for 529 canadian. So now you are telling me, that 400$\529(canadian)was the main cost for the ps2? NO, and concidering that the ps2 dvd player worked better than mostly all dvd players from that time, they hada good quality dvd drive in there.
THIS goes along with the Blueray.
When blueray hits. you know how much its goign to cost? Well apperently the cheapest one is 500$, to 2000$. Now you are telling me that the ps3 is going to cost 900$? Or did i read you wrong from your previos post.
And dont get me wrong, if you read your article you would of read this.
"The first DVD-Audio players were released in Japan by Pioneer in late 1999, but they did not play copy-protected discs. Matsushita (under the Panasonic and Technics labels) first released full-fledged players in July 2000 for $700 to $1,200. DVD-Audio players are now also made by Aiwa, Denon, JVC, Kenwood, Madrigal, Marantz, Nakamichi, Onkyo, Toshiba, Yamaha, and others. Sony released the first SACD players in May 1999 for $5,000. Pioneer's first DVD-Audio players released in late 1999 also played SACD. SACD players are now also made by Accuphase, Aiwa, Denon, Kenwood, Marantz, Philips, Sharp, and others. (See 1.12 for more information on DVD-Audio and SACD.)"
Clearly says that audeo dvd playerss(somthing that the ps2 has) cost 700$ and up

Koko,
You are trying to confuse other readers with your misinformation.
Readers of this post, do not fall into Koko?s arms of obfuscation. Read my previous post, all of the facts are correct (unlike Koko?s assertion that PS2 was being produced in 1997 -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2 -- it wasn?t for sale in USA until October 2000).
Make your decisions based upon the correct information and your personal priorities.
This is my last post in Koko?s thread, I?ve made my point.

Well this just prooves how ignorant you are.
Read my post properly
i said "Ps2 was still being made in 1997. Heck it was being made not long before the psx."
if still being made means selling to you. I dont know what else to say to you.
You even misread your own article.
Quote: Its development was announced in March 1999
It was still being developed. Just as the CEll was being developed a year after ps2.
You said

I was very disappointed when i went to CES (wasn't supposed to be there anyways). they didn't even have any actual gameplay video. Just some videos, like most video game commercials are. They did have 2 systems on display, 1 black and 1 silver, but from what i heard, there wasn't even anything in them. Almost everything was just ps2 stuff. The only thing cool i seen was all the pimped out rides in the car stereo section.

What ever the case is PS3 will be more expensive than 360 because of the inclusion of a blue ray drive. This is okay becuase it means that PS3 will automaticaly be able to play Blue ray movies from the box and have games on one disc instead of two.
The only real disadvantage it has is the price and if Blue ray fails as the main media source for Moives. If blue ray does fail as a main media source for Movies then people will have to go out and buy a HD-DVD player to play thier High definition movies just like the people who own the 360.
I would have to agree with chandlew becuase Blue ray devises are quite expensive at the moment becuase they are a new technology. What Sony are doing is posponing the PS3 until manufacture of the console will not be as expensive to charge people a high amount for the PS3. I predict the PS3 will come out around the end of the year with a price tag between $500-$600 US dollars.

From what I understand the PS3 is just at empty case. Apparently there is no actual up and running PS3.

Yeah PS3 will most likely be out at the end of the year about one year from the 360 release. I did not mention the PS3 as being $600 but would be between $500-$600 or 350 pound from where I origionaly come from.
I cant see how they could implement all the technology like wirless, Blue ray, all the ports, etc without charging around that price. I think the cheapest it will be is $500.
