jack87, sorry if i seemed harsh man! - what i meant was if you have the older version of ARMAX, then you put cogswaploader.elf on your usb pendrive - load ARMAX to media player and hit the PLAY button when the cogswaploader.elf filename shows in the top right corner - this will load cogswaploader off the pendrive. To get the file onto MC, you need to follow the list of instructions under "Loading Cogswap on a FAT PS2" - loading off pendrive takes a while longer but is much easier if it works (i.e: doesn't go to a black screen like in the newer version of ARMAX). Regardless of what ARMAX version you have, you need to follow the list of instructions to put Cogswaploader on the MC

Hope that helps,

Peace.

ok one more question, when you say add whatever other elf files you want on the mc, what would i put on there? lets say i made a backup of shadow of the colossus, what would i put on the mc for that. this is how far ive gotten, i put cogswaper on the mc and used my slide card to put in the backup then it takes me to the cogswaper screen that shows a disc but how do i get it to boot? promise this is the last question

When i said "you can add other elf files to the list", i meant other programs like hdavance (loads games off a usb harddrive), free HD loader (runs games off an internal harddrive), PS2 Reality Media Player (plays various types of media files off a cdr)... etc. You can get these elf files from here and simply add them to your MC boot disc: http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=elfs

You don't need any game-specific files on there to load backups so Shadow of The Collusus etc. will load without problem once cogswaploader is loaded.

When you have cogswaploader up and running, you play a backup like this:

1. Eject disc tray normally and put in an "big"/"high TOC" official PS2 game (like GTA)
2. The screen will say PS2 DVD
2. Press "X" on the controller
3. The screen will say "Use Cogswap"
4. Manually eject the disc tray (by slide tool or fliptop method)
5. Replace the official PS2 game with your backup dvdr
6. Push the disc tray back in and pull white cog to the left to close (or close fliptop if that's the method you're using)
7. Press "X" on the controller
8. Your backup game will load as normal!

Hope that helps.

Okay guys this must be the most nooby question, but I went out and bought an AR MAx just for the sake of trying this lol. Now i have 1 disk called "Max Media" and this is for the ps2 and another 1 came with it called "Max Media" but this is for the PC. I also found my old Action Replay Max CD. I dont know which one to use to load this because 1 is a very small disk and the other one is a normal cd size disk.

I loaded both of them up and looked for an option called "media player" which I could not find. On the max medai manager 4 ps2, all it will let me do is select primarty and secondary devises and on Action Replay Max CD (the normal sized 1, I cant find the "media player" option as well. So can someone please lead me in the right direction on what cd to use and where the media player is located.

i think you are a little confused the two disks you got with your new ar 1 is the ps2 cheats disk that has the media player the pc disk is max media creator you install it on pc and use it to burn ps2 media disks then load the media player with the ps2 disk on your ps2

I figured that it was that one that i needed to use, but whenever it boots up, all it will allow me to do is select a primary device either a PSP, memory card in slot 1, or the memory card in slot 2. I cannot find the media player that is on that disk.

It sounds like you have an older version of Action Replay - If it's AR MAX, then it comes with a media player on the disc - no version of ARMAX that doesn't have it (to my knowledge). If you have the ARMAX at this link here, then you should a media player on there, otherwise it's a faulty disc:

OKay when I boot it up, at the bottom I see:

-Expert Mode
-My devices
-DVD Region X
-Features
-Settings
-Powersaves

Im thinking that it might be the features option that has the media player becuase there are some videos there about other Datel Products. So if anyone knows for sure which one of these it is, I would certainly appreciate it. And yes this is an ARMAX disk (purple color disk)

Hi,
First off: sweet post jjax. Has ALOT more potential than some of the other things I've read on the net. Anyway, I know this seems like a common theme but I gotta say I'm new to this backup-loading world.
I've read your post many MANY times and followed it directly. I have the new version of ARMAX (silver tin) and the slim-line PS2. I have the two required discs burnt and ready to go (and instead of SwapDisk, I have my own system set up with the STRAW method, don't know if you've heard of it)
Anyway, everything seems to work fine. CDLOADER loads up, I put in the ARMAX cd and in the bottom corner of the screen, it recognizes it as a "PS2 CD". Then I swap the disc for my cogswaploader (of course without the PS2 knowing), press X and then....... the screen freezes on a picture of the milky way (or whatever it is, lol) with pink colours on the left and right side.
Sorry for being so detailed... thought maybe it would help. Any comments or answers are greatly appreciated.

hi
will this work with hdloader?

from exploistation:
the hdloader exploit has to be loaded to your mem card in the same way as the cogswap loader, you will then be able to backup games to your hard drive, and play them without the need of a dvd burner and of course dvd-r's...

thank you

BustDustr - Thanks for the comments man! - I'm sure you'll have followed the guide completely (you've done all the challenging parts at least!). I now think there must be something slightly flawed in my guide for the slimline ps2. I'm gonna give it some investigation and see why it doesn't work on all setups for slimline and i'll get back to y'all.

wasd326 - Yeah, this method will work for hdloader. Just download hdloader.elf and when you're making your exploit disc with the Independence Compiler program, just add it to the list of elfs along with cogswaploader - the rest of the process is the same. :D

firstly thanks for the guide, it's as close as I've got to being able to play my imports yet... frustratingley close in fact...
So I just want to add that I have had exactley the same results as BustDustr down to the pink border on the red galaxy when it freezes.
I also sometimes get a completley red screen that replaces the galaxy if I leave it running after the freeze.

bhee - yeah, there is a way of installing an MC exploit on a Fat PS2 without max media player - it's much more complex but is still possible! - also, that method won't work for slim PS2 unfortunately. I'd recommend buying the newer (tinned) version of ARMAX, it's worth it for the media player and makes installing the exploit much easier.

Crivens - thanks man, i'm working on a solution for this problem - seems to be a commen problem - won't take me long to sort out i'm sure! ;-)

Yeah - if cdloader runs off pendrive, then all you need is your MC exploit cd made with the independence compiler program. You just swap an official PS2 cd for your exploit installation cdr and it'll work perfect! ;-)

Yeah - you ALWAYS need to use slide tool or flip top to SWAP discs when you want a cdr or dvdr to load - this is true regardless of what method you are using (MC exploit, SwapMagic etc.) - pressing eject will always just refresh the PS2 TOC and then it knows it's got an unofficial cd/dvd in the disc tray, meaning it wont run the disc.

Hope that helps.
