Those verbatims are very good. They'll be on sale tomorrow at Office Max. Best buy will have the sony on sale tomorrow. On sony, just like fuji: Look for the labels that say made in Japan. All the sony/fuji yuden000-T02 and the verbatim MCC-004 are awesome,it's a coin flip just to see which ones I pick up.
My local staple's doesn't have any more fuji's. The ty fujis were in the 30 pack multi-colored spindles.Maybe they'll get another promo deal with those 30 packs.Until then, the only media I'd get from staples are the Japanese sony +1x-8x. I haven't seen any ty fuji at best buy. All made in tiawan.
I'm still waiting for the Office Depot ad. Anybody seen it yet?

I just got back from Office Max and Best buy. What a day. I got 11 spindles of Sony +1x-8x all made in Japan. I didn't see a single Made in Taiwan spindle.
I bought a spindle of dash verbatim 16x for a friend at Office Max.They had a ton of them there.
I picked up a spindle of those dreaded Playo's at Staple's just to pow around with.
Here's what Dvd Identifier says about them:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:UME01]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Ume Disc Manufacturing Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [UME01]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WTF are these?
I picked up the wrong format, UGGH! LOL
Anybody else hit staples? They had a maxtor internal 200 gb HD for $40 and I/O Magic 16x dvd-rw drive for $20 after easy rebates. Just curious to see made those I/O drives.
Edit: IronMaidn: Those office depot 8x discs are made by ritek. Pretty good. You can get them a lot cheaper in a week or 2. Look for their brand name media sale. You can get the buy 1/get 1 or 2 free specials which brings that price down to 20-25 cents each! 35 cent riteks are too much. The taiwanese maxell 8x will usally code the same ritek media, but these are around 30 cents each when maxells go on sale.

i know u live fairly close to me, which BestBuys did YOU go to? i'm assuming in Orange County...but, i went to hit up the WestLA BB off of Pico blvd. and much like saugmon, they had NOTHING BUT MIJ Sony 8x DVD+R, all of which are YUDEN000T02, i picked up 300 myself (6-six- 50-pack spindles) just for kicks~ :)
i guess the inventory really varies from store to store, i know you couldn't be much more than 40 miles away from me...at the WestLA branch of Bestbuy, every single 50-pack spindle of Sony 8x DVD+R was MADE IN JAPAN/Fabrique au Japon :) LOL i couldn't even FIND a MIT Sony 50-pack 8x DVD+R, ALL the 8x Sony DVD-R were MIT, but not on the DVD+R format~ :)

Got a bunch of Sony (MIJ) from Circuit City. Disc info reads SONY S11.
Thought they would have been TY.
Anyone know "the real manufacturer" ?

Being a newbie and everything...what exactly does
"verbatims -- MCC
sony -- MIJs -- TY
or TY directly online form"
the MIJ and MCC mean when you are talking about Sony and Verbatim. I gather that everyone prefers to by the Japan brand?

Quote: are any of the Dash ever TY? or is it just the (+)?
there HAVE been reports LATELY that people are getting the TYG02s in the Sony 8x MIJ DVD-R spindles too, while i've only seen a FEW lately, others from the past have always reported an identical MID coding on BOTH the Sony 8x DVD-R MIT as well as the MIJ~ :)
i guess it DOES come down to the "luck of the draw" here...i don't recommend or suggest anyone to go RUSH OUT and get ALL the MIJ Sony 8x DVD-R that they can get their hands on, the POSSIBILITY is STILL there that they COULD get either the SONY08D1 on EITHER the MIT or the MIJ spindles...the Taiyo Yuden manufactured TYG02 coded ones are not a 100% guarantee every time by simply purchasing the Sony 8x MIJ DVD-R spindles~ :)
@mounties
when people refer to media, there are a few things people look out for....they usually look at the country of origin and the MID (media ID coding) on said discs...
Verbatim (made in taiwan= MIT) are almost SOLELY MCC manufactured in the 8x and 16x rated speeds...when someone says "MCC" that is referring to the media ID coding, meaning, it was manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp.= MCC
Taiyo Yuden on the other hand, is ONLY MIJ= made in japan, and as of late, many people are finding "TY" = Taiyo Yuden manufactured discs under various "brands" locally...in this case, being Sony as the company name, using TY as their manufacturer in the MIJ spindles (namely the 8x Sony DVD+R format with the "made in japan" or "fabrique au Japon" found on the wrapper...) that is how people are distinguishing WHICH ones are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden or by Sony~
i know that's quite a bit of info to digest, but once you get the hang of it, it ALL falls into place~ :)
2 key points in finding good media :
1. country of origin, MIJ is GENERALLY better media than MIT, however, Verbatim is the DISTINCT exception to this "rule" as almost ALL single layer Verbatim discs are made in taiwan = MIT and they are VERY high quality discs carrying the MCC media id coding (ie. MCC003, MCC004 - 8x DVD+R, 16x DVD+R respectively)
2. just because you find a MIJ spindle under ANY brand, DOES NOT mean that it is good media...most people that contribute to these sales threads are looking for Taiyo Yuden made media (MIJ) or MCC made media (MIT), but buying locally sometimes it's just a "luck of the draw" if you get Taiyo Yuden manufactured media under the MIJ label of various companies (Sony & Fuji are the 2 most predominant ones where TY media is found under the MIJ country of origin)...but, with ANY "brand" company (ie. Sony, Fuji, Memorex, HP, etc.) they could change their manufacturer in a moment's notice, so you can't rely solely on the MIJ stamp on spindles) MIJ does NOT equal quality media everytime.
