Found it rather interesting reading through this Sony DRU500 thread, have discovered something I found that may just provide a clue when using DVD-R (several different brands)on the DRU500. They all fail at exactly the same block of data, yet if I record the same file with the same software to DVD+R or R/W no problem, have had the problem with several different software recording programs including DVDXCopy, Xcopy Xpress, Roxio, & a few others. Makes no difference how I create the DVD file, fails at the same place always just about exactly 50% of the starting file size. Different starting disk immages will fail at different places yet still about exactly at 50% of the starting file size. I have the latest version of hardware & software on everything. Might this provide a clue to anyone ?

Yeah me too, although it screws up at 25% 3 outta 4 times.

Perhaps the multidrive format ain't so hot with dvd-rs...

Hey T-Bone, how much data were you trying to fit on the DVD-r's when you were burning?

Because some brands limit the amount of burning space if you write it in the "Disc at Once" method.

I think it was Optodiscs which limited me.

Off topic, Deakorn, how are those HouseBrand DVDs? They good quality?

I'm thinking of purchasing some myself.

First attempt was trying to burn 3.8 GB, second attempt 4.12 gb 3rd just over three. The same captures burned fine with no changes on DVD+RW and DVD+R with no changes other than to select "try again" when it failed, and substituting a 4.7GB +R or +RW disk for the -R media. Used the same software when attempting again worked every time, 4.7 GB DVD-R failed every time.

Tbone, I've used the same Datawrite 4x discs in the Sony (2.0f) with no problem at 2 speed. (Haven't tried 4 speed yet). I had the problem with the 75% spit out at first but it seemed to be with Nero and Recordnow. Try uninstalling the software and re-install. This sorted it for me with Nero .28.
