I just got into the Movie backups and so far I used Memorix disk and they worked great but they were like $37 for 10 disk. I want to buy a 25-50 disk bulk set of some decently priced DVD-R media. Anyone with this drive have any suggestions? Looking for media that plays on most DVD players.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

I have a Sony DVD RW DRU-500AX
Use Decryptor, DVD2ONE, Nero latest Version.

I just bought a 50 spindle of house brand dvds from www.allmediaoutlet.com. I have also heard the Lead data disks are good too from allmediaoutlet.com. I seriously havent heard anybrand that doesnt work for this drive. I also have tried verbatim -r and memorex+r and they work great too but expensive. Oh by the way the housebrand dvd's i got; 20 of them where lead data 2X and the rest were 1X lead data. They are a mix of 2X and 1X, and if your lucky ull get sony 2X because they mix them in as well :). I hope this helps

I bought a trial pack of DVD-R discs from
http://www.cd-rmedia.co.uk/
And all of them worked on my Sony DRU500AX
They were:-
Ownbrand Media.Co.UK
TDK-R x1 Speed
Zero Reflex -R x1 Speed
Bulkpaq Generation 4 -R x2 Speed
Maxell DR-V x1 Speed
DVD-R for General use x1 Speed
Intenso for general use x1 Speed
Datawrite Classic (Grey Top) x2 Speed
Verbatim DVD-R x2 Speed.

I used RecordNow and DVD2one after using Decrypter to rip the dvd's

Hope this helps.

Can anyone help me with this problem?
I have just purchased a batch of Datawrite Classic 4 x speed dvd's to burn on my Sony DRU500AX with firmware 2.0e or 2.0f but after burning approx 75% of the disc it spits it out says errors on disc etc, now have 6 coasters!
Using RecordNow after using DVD2one programme
I have burned 2 x speed discs with no problems so far but these 4 x speed have become a big problem. Has anyone any ideas for me please.

Well after now making 11 coasters from this batch of Datawrite 4 x speed discs, I have to conclude that they are crap!
If you have a Sony DRU500AX, DO NOT BUY THESE DISCS, stick to others brands.

I have a Sony DVD RW DRU-500A DVD.CD-ROM which read/write all the formats ( reason for buying the DVD Burner ). I have purchased Bulk (100) Ritek DVDplusR 4X. Problem is when I use DVD X Copy v1.5.2 AND DVD X Copy Xpress v2.0.1. When I use the Programs on DVD+RW there is No problem, but now with the Ritek disks I have a 55% failure in backing up my DVD. What happens, it copies the disk fine, then goes to record on to the blank, everything is Fine so it says, but it finalizes it at 50%ish of the movie and says all is fine and completed the copying successfully. Well I have 8 new coster. I tested the same movie again with a DVD+RW and everything is Just Fine. My machine and memory far exceeds the software requirement. Did I buy the Wrong DVD Blanks?

Speaking to the player problem,I find that the +R media will not play in my not so old Toshiba DVD player, while they will work in my Pioneer player, and the -R will work in both. Hope this helps.

GWHISTLED: I think your problem was installing the software that came with the DVD RW DRU-500A (RecordNow). The Sony company admitted to me there was a problem with the software, so I re-installed Stomp version of RecordNow Max v4.50 and the DVD Burner worked like is was suppose to, like the CD-RW that it replaced.

LOHAN: Thats great my friend can use that info . But what I learned from my past is . If you pay so much for something and your not sure of problems cause by installation. take it back untill all the bugs are out of it then consider buying. I once bought a mother board that gave me problems that no one could answer , when the warrenty was out someone discovered the chip was bad on the northbridge. SO [ like microsoft xp developers do .]Let the consumer have it and the will work out the bugs. BY the way , the onley program I had broblems with -r burns was Express. nero would copy most -r's ok Have a great day.

I have used Ritek, Verbatim (mfd in Taiwan) and Fujifilm 2x with perfect success on Sony 500 (external). Not a single coaster. I took Meritline's recommended substitution for Ritek - DVDPro - and have not had a successful burn after three attempts. I also bought their recommended substitution - unbranded Maxell - and am waiting for the order. I have heard ominous news about them as well - I'll let you know when I get them.

As for the Fuji, Bestbuy is now selling a 50 pack for $77 + $18 rebate. I'm very pleased with their performance in combo with the Sony.

Ok, I can make a recommendation of which DVDR media not to use: YesBuy.net's house brand media or what they sell as "generic". I usually don't trust media I can watch TV through (watch Friends with tinge of purple). Anyways, I tried it anyways, I have 8 wonderful coasters (actually, my Pioneer 525 will sorta play one of the discs but gets lots of errors further into the disc it plays, eventually not worth playing). From what I gather from all the discussion boards and other websites, Sony 500xxx really prefers at least *good* quality media. I am staying away from *generic* or *house brand* regardless of the company. Note: my drive could burn to the discs but not *read* them afterwards -- and none of my other DVD-ROM drives could see it either. Just not worth risking it. It cost me $105 to figure this out. :-)

I've started using the unbranded "Maxell" DVD-Rs (from Meritline). I've had 2 coasters, 3 that burned without any trouble, and 2 that didn't finalize but can still be read by my stand-alone player.

I have the Sony DRU500AX - Backed up 5 movies
so far.

Media used?

FujiFilm +RW
Verbatim -R

4 with the Fuji, one with the Verbatim. No problems so far...

Looking for cheaper media though (verbatim was
8.99 for 3!!!)

You might try here: http://www.dvd-rwmedia.com/
I have also tried the expensive discs, but I got some Optodiscs in a 50pk spindle for about $50,that seem to work out just as well. That's about a dollar a piece !
