Ive got to say, I did not have high hopes for this, but f*ck me it worked!!!!!
My littluns ps2 is working again and Ive saved a shit load of cash!

ALL HAIL DAVIESLIM! PS2 GENIUS!
Thank you from the bottom of my wallet!

Just to recap:
ps2 stopped spinning ,but laser working fine
bought replacement laser/spindle unit part, still the same prob
heated up a screwdriver, melted off the solder blob
works fine ! ! £ !

Hope this post helps others with the same prob!

I don't know about genius but am glad I could help. For anyone else reading this post, look at your old laser part that you have removed to see what the soldered area should look like.

The only thing still bothering me is why the Ebay laser sellers don't tell you to do this in the first place!
