The thing that I liked about DVD was the features, skipping chapters, the quality. Blu Ray/HD-DVD doesn't have this impact. Infact, for most people it's quite pointless at the moment. I think when everyone has a DVD player, the sales start to take a dive. The industry needs something new to spark interest....

'lets bring out Blu Ray/HD-DVD although people don't need it that much, its big bucks for us'.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who know binary, and those who don't

I don't own an HDTV but I've seen a DVD played on a 42". It was incredible w/progressive scan. So how much better can Blu-ray be? Do we need to see the individual freckles on someone?? See their pimples & other nasty stuff?? When I watch an action movie will I see where a special effect has obviously been added in? Remember that the more clear the image, the less easy it is to cover up mistakes. A videogame IS a great choice for Blu-ray, but I don't think films will work out as well. Many actors/actresses and directors are going to feel uneasy w/ the high resolution. When shooting a movie, I think a director is going to need a lot more takes to get it right. In the editing room, things that don't look perfect are going to need more and more work. Overall, this will lead to tension among the creative community. Which will lead to higher prices for film at the theater & at the store.

Before people try to understand why DVD has taken hold over VCR so quick, they should read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore%27s_law

if you're a college student, do NOT settle with the RIAA http://tinyurl.com/37oz2z

Not sure of that seeing as though most movies now are shot and edited in high-def(uncompressed) video. I'm sure you'll see mistakes in older movies though.

yea ps2 was a key for the success for dvd and ps3 will be key for bluray.
I have to disagree with you on that one since Sony completely botched the dvd drive in the ps2's they actually made dvd players look less than stellar.

People HD/Blu-Ray not out to take over DVD's they are there to improve on your TV quality.Plus the so called war Blu-Ray v HD-DVD not going to be a war at all Because just about all the major Hardware producers like Samsung is going to start making there nex gen players play both formats & also upconvert your regular DVD's.Why choose one when you can have both.
