Definetley, PS3 will feature the use of blue ray disks, and its only a matter of time before DVD's take a backseat such as the VHS did when DVDs became mainstream.

svtstang :I have to disagree respectfully.

Vhs sucked on many levels.Fast forwarding and rewinding was hit and mis as where with dvd's you can jump right to a chapter. You almost never saw any bonus content on vhs but dvd's all have bonus content.Vhs used "tracking" to tweek the level of quality because alot of times the tape would be shaky or even unwatchable.Quality wasn't very good either compaired to dvd's.

I expect the next gen hd-dvd players and blu-ray to have even more quality and maybe even more new features.

@tycobb

I agree with u 100%. My comment based solely on the fact that all the stuff I loved when I was a kid is on VHS; I didnt own a DVD until like 3 years ago. Technologically its obviuos that VHS is inferior, but DVDs dont have good memories on them like the good ol VHS(gettin sentimental LOL)!!

Oh sorry lol.My parents get that way about 8 tracts and records.
Well in that case I would have to aggree with you. Most of my memories were from vhs and tapes too, but I have since transfered them on dvd's and cd's because they won't play on anything else.

There's a few thing's though. You'll need a tv tuner, this will allow your pc to except incoming av and s-video connections. Now with that you can plug in your vcr and record the content to the hard drive and then burn it to dvd.But the quality is sometimes eehhh... kinda shi!!y.This is where a software solution comes in at.Most tv tuners come with the software but there is also freeware that will do the trick.

Now you will need blank dvd's to burn it to.Also why not just get free torrent software and download all the movies and stuff for free. The quality is great with divx and the bigger the file the better. This will allow you to skip having to mess with a tv tuner.Once youv'e downloaded it then just burn it with free burning software.

for free torrent software you have lot's of options the one I use is here
http://www.utorrent.com/

for the torrent's go here
http://isohunt.com

Remember to forward your port if your behind a router or you will get crappy download speeds.

Sure torrent's are safe.Much more so than regular p2p like morpheus or limewire. However don't download software with a tiny file size(200kb) or it will be a virus.

movies, music, ebooks and games are all for the most part safe but app executables arn't.

for instance I have all the best pc games for free like call of duty 2,ghost recon 3,the godfather, etc..

If you go for a tv tuner make sure it's good and stay away from usb tuners too.also get dscaler which is awesome freeware and check there site for tuners that are compatible .

http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/card-support/index.htm

I'd get the leadtek winfast xp.

yep Blu-ray and ps3 will destroy the competition.

dvd is old when buying a new movie go for the high def. flick if u are poor and dont got a hd-tv then buy the crappy dvd version.

Let me wrap this up for you all:

Developers say: "Blu-ray is nice and will allow us to add more content to the game."

Sony Fanboys say: "Hooray! DVD has just been owned!"

Xbots say: "BD isn't necessary. Multi-dvds are more than anough."

I say: "Since when has the format determined the greatness of a game?"

I doubt any1 disagrees with that thought mudearies, including myself. Blue ray will not make a game better simply it is in that particular format, but rather, will allow developers to create a better experience for us with all the added content that these disks allow.

I don't think as many people will be making the switch to the Blu-ray as fast as the conversion from VHS to DVD. DVDs were a major improvement over the old VHS format, where the switch to Blu-ray is just an incremental change, the higher quality being the main point. How many people have switched to SACD or DVD Audio even though they are clearly superior to the standard CD?
