Quote: Ok peeps; let me try to explain this in detail without insulting anyone?s intelligence.
lol - didnt you know DVD Shrink does the ripping for you.
Also, recordnow max 4.50 is far better. You should rip and compress the data into a VIDEO_TS folder.

You need to make sure you are using DVD Decrypter in File Mode rather than IFO or ISO

Open Video_ts.ifo in DVD Shrink. This will run through the movie files and calculate the total size of the movie. Then let you select what bits you want to compress and by how much. You can compress different part by different amounts and also leave out audio tracks and Subtitles to get your movie down to 4.36Gig
Have fun!

I've not had any errors using DVD Decrypter. Could it be a mark/smudge/defect on the surfave of the disc?
CRC is an error detection mechanism so it looks as though there is a problem reading the disc.

What i told you was right. It snot my fault you need instructions on how to operate DVD Decrypter, is by far the easiest program to master.

I've had CRC errors on two discs and upon playback of the original there was some defect (such that the disc would no longer play from a certain point on or it would skip the troubled area to the next chapter.). Not the software (not likely) but the disc itself.
DVD Shrink rules!

I can't compare from experience IC vs. the other compressors, but this is what I like about IC (with registry hacks enabled of course)
1. everything I burn uses at least 97% of the DVD capacity.
2. IC strips extras-languages-subtitles etc.,
3. customizes per-VOB-series compression within .0X% with options to omit completely
4. built in simple viewer of each VOB series
5. allows overburning depending on media (you can even make the burner take the laser right off the outer surface of the disc...now that's control.
6. compress and burn in one step (albeit a long one)
7. produces excellent quality compression.
The down side is
1. costs $
2. video viewer can be finicky if you haven't installed or updated your chipset/video drivers properly. Mine runs stable as a rock but I've dealt with installations in which drivers were an issue but those problems were eventually solved.
3. relatively long compression time.
One of my favorite processes is that if I only want the movie and it is greater than 4.5gig and I wan't MINIMAL compression.
1. DVD Decrypt movie only (vob series), don't include .ifo files.
2. create new IFO's with IFOEdit (these are typically smaller than the ones on the original disc and allow for minimal compression of the movie on the limited DVD storage space)
3. Compress new series of files with IC.
BTW, I'm looking for some good how-to documentation on the use of VOBEDIT.
