My vote definately goes to God of War. That game has the best gameplay that I have experienced on the ps2, aside from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (the others weren't as good). And the graphics are pretty much unmatched on the ps2 as well (aside from RE4).

I'm not really into racing games that don't have realistic car damage, I find it a bit boring.

To me the best playstation game has to be MVP baseball 2005, the one with Pujols on the cover, I still up to this date play that game, just love it so much. Even though I have recent baseball games like The Show and MLB 2K6 I still think MVP 2005 takes Best Game Ever, but that is a sports game, as for adventure type of playing I'd have to say Devil May Cry 3 and God of War stand for a pretty good argument.

the Onimusha series needs to be in here as well it had get graphics bosses ,tight ass magical swords ,great story lines . it just reminded me of a samurai version of resident evil , I also like the spooky japanese music. as for GTA yeah its a great game and all fans or always gone vote that number one on web-sites and most of them are teens that had they parents buy the game or people that dont play half these games listed on here that should have been on that list, pluss its the most controversial game (with MK)of all time so its more well known then alot of others in this thread

Recent games I've played worth mentioning
FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus
Overall rating: 4/5
Pros
Excellent story (continuation of FFVII)
Good graphics, and some really nice looking cutscenes
Fun and challenging gameplay
Bonus missions once you beat it in story mode
Cons
Instruction manual is like 2 pages, some aspects of the game are confusing because there is no documentation
Cutscenes get annoying after you've already seen them once
Game save feature is only suitable for 1 player to have data on the memory card
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Overall rating: 4.5/5
Pros
Great selection of cars each with their own "feel"
Career mode is awesome, good story
Excellent soundtrack
High level of customization
Cops chasing you
Cons
Once again with the poor documentation
Autosave, when enabled, doesn't save progress when it should
More to come...

hell i'd hate to say it, but even Lego Star Wars was a well done game it had soo much shit to do and so many characters you could buy and the graphics even though lego-ish were awsome even though I bough this game for my nephews, I enjoyed playin it with them and hell even my cousins went through and beat the game, one is 31 and one is 26 .so that saying somethin . plus it got good reviews and I think won an award or almost did I forget .

Dragon Quest VIII
Classic Rpg gameplay, great cell-shaded graphics, 100% Toriyama design, excellent orchestrated music and voice acting, great cast of no cliched characters, simple but great and cliché-free plot, long and challenging...

I would have to say a toss up between Madden or one of the Grand Theft Auto series.I know one game that shocked me when I did play it was the Spiderman game.I don't know about everyone else, but I'm not a really big spiderman fan either. When I played the spiderman game I don't think you could ask for anything more when you play it.It let you do everything spiderman could do in a game, plus the environments around spiderman are amazing.

I think a game gets boring when they repeat the formula over and over without adding something that keeps you playing, I think that's the reason I like Rpg games (specially the weird ones like Persona :P).
