o crap i forgot. do you know a reliable site where i can buy the magic switch?
Well, its not whether magic switch is easier than magic keys, its the pieces that go into them that makes it difficult. A good store would be here:
http://www.modchipstore.com/Slim-Tool-fo...sole-16262.html
My friend got some of he's stuff here just fine. You should try it out. Of course there are other places, its just a matter of choice. Good Luck!

Hi, my PSTwo is model 77001, I got the SwapMagic Coder and MagicKeys 2. It works fine.
My question is, is the lid supposed to be able to close? I can't close it on mine, because if I do, the tool pops up. Is the lid supposed to be always open if you use tools such as MagicKeys 2?
Thanks.

hey i've had the 77001a and 77001b...i broke the sensor off with the metal tool on the b system because it wouldn't stay in place and moved when i closed the lid. the older style where you bend the metal hinge plate and slide the plastic piece down is much safer than the metal tool. the sensor is barely attached and once it breaks off your system will not be able to boot a disc unless it's fixed.

For those of you who own V15 ps2 and would like to be able to close the lid when you play backup games using Magic Key 2, please check out my post on "Solution for installing Magic Key #3 on V15 PS2". I figured out a way to install an alternative material for key E, and I can play all my backup games with the console lid close. You don't even have to open the unit for it. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip Amanda916.
Instead of the third key, I first tried a piece of plastic, it went in very easily, but I had a hard time hitting the sensor and getting it to stay in place. I gave up after about 15 minutes.
I then tried with a straw and got it working perfectly in less than two minutes and it closes completely. :)
I recommend anyone thinking of buying MagicKeys, or similar products, to save their money and just try using something like the straw method. It works better. And most importantly, with the Magic Key being made of metal, there's a good chance you could short circuit your PS2 as reported by some users here; no such risk with the straw.

Could someone please help me out?
I purchased the PS2 SWAP MAGIC 3.8 W/CODER COMBO from AllModChip.com
http://www.allmodchip.com/PS2_Swap_Magic...bo_p_16181.html
I have a silver slim(SCPH-70001). I installed the flip top and everything seems to be working fine. The coder disc(dvd version) loads fine but when I go to boot a DVD+R it says to add a genuine ps2 disc...
So I looked in the small user manual and it says that slim SCPH-7000X need to install "magic switch pro V3"...
Did I buy the wrong one? Am I missing something? Please help. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge it is working... I don't believe my problem has to do with the hardware mod(fliptop).
The disc spins while the cover is open.
I am just confused because the included directions for the coder combo that I purchased in the link above state:
"For SCPH-7000X slim console users. you need to install Magic Switch Pro V3 on your console, so that you can swap the discs by simply opening the disc cover of your console"
It seems to insinuate I need different, or additional, software...

I don't know much, but perhaps it has to do with the DVD disc you are using and/or the write speed.
My silver slim works well with DVD+R discs made by Sony and Maxell. I tried the popular Verbatim and few other DVD-R manufactures but they didn't work on my slim. A few members here informed me that the newest slim v15 only works with DVD+R. Some games I had to backup at slower than 4x speed to get them to work. Oh, one more thing, check to make sure that all the keys you installed are pushed in/down tightly. Just my few cents. Good luck.

Not quite true. The new slim (that I have) works perfectly fine with DVD+R and DVD-R, write speeds should only be between 2x-6x. Discs like SONY, Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims are usually the best, however TDK also does the job well.

Sinner,
You'll have to show me how to backup with verbatim DVD-R discs then for I ordered 100 of them after reading all the recommendations here. Hate to waste them, you know. I know that I can backup PS2 games with them because I got the successful backup screen notice everytime my DVD burner finish writing the game, but my slim - same as your model- just refuses to read them. Sony and Maxell DVD+R work perfect for me so I'll just stick to them. I wrote about this problem here and a few junior members told me their new slim have the same problem and read only DVD+R dics.
I wonder if it has to do with my DVD burner also though. I have a Sony Dual Layer DRU800A model with the latest firmware. Please let me know what backup software(s), burner you use with the DVD-R and how you burn the game. Thanks ahead!

Software: DVD Decrypter (final release)
Burning Speed: 4x
Method of boot: Swap Magic DVD (works), Swap Magic CD + CD Loader TOC refresh (works)

Here's a thrid one with a DVD+R (I thought it might be useful to add):
Game: The Sims 2 Pets (PS2) PAL
PS2: Slimline v15 77002 CB (Charcol Black) PAL
Media: TDK DVD+R 16x (TDK003)

what's all this stuff about sinners obinna12? i hope you're referring to the user & not the rest of us o__o
anyway, just traded my v12 for a v15 satin. Mehhh the Tool C I have (SMv3.6 with magic keys 1) won't work. but using a straw or cutting the plastic leg vertically might work. Of course there is the famous tape & tissue mod which is using black electrical tape to seal down A/B & then sticking tissue into the place where Tool C goes. might try that.
one last ? Are the laser lens in v15 supposed to be better than v12 or is it just the opposite?

Hey guys. I recently picked up a Slim-line PSTwo and ordered Magic Switch v3. I'm having some trouble installing it.
I'm pretty sure I can get A and B in pretty easily (Though A tends to pop out now and again) but my big issue is the third piece.
I've got a SCPH-77001 model, black, and I'm not exactly sure what piece I should be using. That is, Tool C, Tool D, or Tool E.
I've read a bunch of things, this thread in its entirety included, and I've deduced that it should be Tool E, the metal thing, but I'm not 100% sure.
I tried getting it in there, and I did finally manage to get it in in front of that metal piece next to the spring, but I still couldn't get the disc to spin with the cover on.
Is there any suggestions out there for me, or a confirmation that Tool E is the tool I want to be putting in there?
Thanks for your time, guys.

use the metal one (tool e i think) for the spring. check out this video to get it in there.

i know this video is for magic keys 2, but the piece is the same. you should turn on the ps2 with the lid open, and fiddle with the piece until the disc spins. hope this helps.

Hi Zasha,
Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate it!
After reviewing your post, and some videos, I did manage to get Tool E to work. I just wasn't inserting it in the correct place, I hadn't realized it was supposed to go in the little gap in the middle of that metal piece.
As it turns out, Tool E was the least amount of trouble, as Tool A doesn't stick down and occassionally pops up (I've taped it down with scotch tape currently) and Tool B doesn't push the disc break all the way to the right, so the disc clips the break when it spins. I cut out a little piece similar to the magic keys out of a hard plastic and taped that down with scotch tape as well. My only concern with that is that I hope it is not hitting the bottom of the disc.
It didn't appear to be, as it wasn't making any odd noises, and no new visible scratches appear on the discs. So, I guess aside from that, everything's working out.
Thanks again for the assistance!

no problem.
i had the same trouble with tool b on some discs. i decided to just let the discs wear the tool down over time and they still work fine; the noise was annoying for a while, though.

Ahhh that 3rd piece (the metal clip) is a real P.I.T.A. isn't it? :(
i've heard some people can just stick some tissue down in there (the infamous tape & tissue mod) but i wouldn't do that myself. Using the Tool C from my old v12, i modified it so it was a bit slimmer. Pushed it down in the hole and curved the top so it doesn't stick straight up but bends a little. Works perfect. All those back...er Japanese games are great to play now. hahah.

Magic Keys rock!
I just got mine last week ($6, http://www.ultimateconsoleguides.com/MagicKeys.htm ). I 'm not sure if was a mistake but I got two different peice E's (Peice 3?). One fat wide metal one and one slim skinny metal one.
From the looks of it, the guy probably threw in an old MK1 peice as an extra, but it works. Anyone need a genuine MK3 peice E? Pm me. I got an extra.

Magic Keys are metal. Magic Switches are plastic (with the exception of part E).
Both sets come with part E (part "3" for MK).
Magic Keys, in my opinion, have a better disk stop.
Magic Switches, on the other hand, come with Peice D.
They're both great.

There is a video that shows how to insert the magic keys 3b part. This should do it. The old straw/tissue mod also works, although less neat looking.

I have also been struggling with getting the #3 to stay in place. I am ready to open the case and tape down the sensor. Can anyone provide any hints or tips to opening the 77001 case to prevent damage when opening?

I've opened my slimlines quite a lot and all I can say is:
Once you've unscrewed all six screws, flip it back again and make sure that the controller ports/ mem port etc are facing you.
Try and pull off the back slightly from the left hand corner then slowly do the same for the rest. Once the back has loosened, try and push the casing towards you and it should come off without harming the internals.
I'm not quiet sure if that's clear enough, but that'll do I guess.
Make sure all ribbon cables (that are visble are intact), then tape the swtich down with some carpet/duct tape. You should cut the tape carefully so it fits the are perfectly, and does not interefer with other parts. Also added an extra layer of tape may help with sealing it down. Whatever you do DON'T use superglue, you'll only end up breaking the PS2.
While you're at it, I recommend taping down the disc break (from the top part of the cover you pulled off). There's a small spring which you can tape down. Make sure you do a firm job, so I stays in the same position, adding another layer may help, but make sure it doesn't obstruct any other part.
Pop back the lid (don't screw it back yet) and see if the PS2 functions without the cover being opened (don't forget about the front sensor). If it works, screw it on and start playing, if not, try taping it down again. Also beaware that should should be VERY careful when removing the tape, you don't wanna end up breaking things.
Please note, you are working on your own accord, I hold absolutely no responsiblity for your actions, after all it was your choice. My intructions/tips/etc are from personal experinces and may differ from professional jobs.
That's all really. I recently did this for my friend's PS2 and it's pretty effective as she doesn't wanna buy Magic Keys. I used regular tissue (actually not regular tissue, I went to MacDonalds ealier that day and used a part of thier napkin :P ) for the front sensor.
