I have the same red screen (insert ps1 or 2 disk) after selecting solo.
I have burned at 2x and 4x on ritek media. The ISO is not a download It is a backup I made with Alcohol 120. I do this with all of my games. Of the 32 games I backed up this is the first one I have ever had a problem with.
PS..yes I do create another ISO after the 3rd coaster so its not the ISO.
I use cogswap btw.

Ok i think i found the problem, i couldnt get this working ither, every time i try to boot it up it would be a black screen, and not load up.. then i did something else, got it to boot up, but when i click single player, it froze.. , but this is going to sound stupid, but this is how i got it to work, You have to do it just like this:
If your using a PS2 mem card elf (what i do) im using SwapMagic 3.3
1. Turn your ps2 "ON", Put in your PS1 Disc (that boots up your elf luncher)
2. Turn your ps2 "OFF" wait a few secs.
3. Turn your ps2 back "ON" and before it even gets to the ps2 menu, it should boot up your Elf Luncher.

The rest of the steps are the same as u do to play burnt games...
4. Then press X or O or whatever u do to start up swapmaic 3.3
5. Now u should see Swapmagic 3:3 on your TV screen, Press EJECT on your ps2.
6. Put in a big TOC disc (a big ps2 game, i use metal gear solid 3: subsistance or GTA Sanandreas, GTA is smaller.. but still big)
7. Wait for it to load the TOC disc, Swap to splinter cell double agentwith your swappling tool.. card thing... (DONT press the ps2 eject button, my ps2 is open, so i dont have to put anything in it to pop the disc tray open).
8. Press X and it should boot up and u should be able to play it

Hi:
I'm trying to burn SC:DA but I've had problems with previous splinter cell games, so I'd like to know if it's even possible to play them on my system.
All the Splinter Cell Games, start well and play their respective intros and all. The problem is when I select Solo/Coop the game goes to the "Insert PS2/PSX Disc" red screen.
I believe it's my modchip because those are the only games I can't play. I've made plenty of backups before (different games from originals, copies and downloaded iso's, always with verbatim media) so I don't think I'm screwing up the burning process, but again, who knows. I'm not sure what kind of modchip I have; I suppose it's a MAGIC 3.1/MAGIC 3.1 PLUS for a V7, because it works the sames way as described in here:

I have a V7 SCPH-39001 NTSC console.
The Splinter Cell Games are the only ones I can't play. Do any of you know if Splinter Cell has any issues with some modchips?

I have the same mod chip, and I also have had the exact problem as you with all splinter cell games.
It seems like it could just be our mod chip.
Can anyone else confirm this or suggest a fix?

I'm using swap magic 3.6 followed by cdloader 7 and all is well until i choose play game or whatever the first option is called and then it just freezes and the disc continues spinning as if it were loading (but it isn't)... anyone have this problem ?

I guess it is. Have you tried playing an original Splinter Cell? I haven't, but I guess I'll rent one just to test it out.
Maybe the guys at ubisoft have coded some sort of detection routine for our chip.

hmm mine seems to work now.. I put in Swap Magic V2.0 and then put in Zoneloader and booted up Double Agent and it loaded perfectly, I tried Solo and Co-op and they both work perfectly, no skipping, no long loading times.

I am using the independence exploit and swap method to play backups. Cogswap loader did not work (would bring me to ps2 not valid screen) however swap magic 3.8 coder worked.
