The drive not reading CDs is getting really irritating. Just tried installing the newest flash for my DMS3... unsuccessfully.

Thanks KC for putting me straight. I was under the impression that the HDD explorer ran from the hard drive. I see what you mean now.

My obstacle remains my PS2s inability to read CDs. As a result, all the ISOs won't install. I've tried extracting the ISOs and burning the contents onto DVDs but that doesn't work (my ps2 will read dvds).

I think my only choice is to get my friends un-modded ps2, do the MC exploit and tried to get HD loader onto a memory card that way.

Is it easy to set up the install disc to just copy the ELFs to the memory card? I've read tons and I'm still not sure how to do this. After loading the PS1 game (can it be a ps2?), I take out the game at what point - in order to swap?

If I were able to get HDD explorer onto the memory card, would I then be able to install elfs from the hard drive?

I'm determined to get this sorted!

on the DVD burning, you might want to add a 1gig dummy file to the image prior to burning it, DVD's don't do so well with little data on them right at the center, adding the dummy files helps on both DVD and CD applications like the flash discs and the exploit discs.

if all else fails see if you can borrow your friends DVD drive for the installation process.

Well i just found out that it was my chip causing the ps2 not to run the games as soon as i cut the power to the mod chip the games run fine.

But now i have the problem of not being able to run my hard drive as i used the cd to load it and although all this information from this forum and others is helpfull im not sure what files i need to put onto my memory card to run it.

Is there a legitimate hd loader disc that does not need a mod chip or wap magic so i can run my hard drive or could soemone give me a link to a website showing steps on how to install aa file on the memory card so it can run the hard drive at bootup without the need of a mod chip.

Pro0gamer

P.S. If anyone knows of the duo 3 modchip and why all of a sudden the chip failed on me and displayed the error warning "Please insert a PS2 format disc" at boot up no matter what disc was inserted then could you please share it with me.

do a search for HD Advance 3.0, it's a HD Loader program from disc (both CD and DVD) that will boot in an unmodded console and allow play from the harddrive.

on your chip it's hard to say without having it here to do some checks on while it attempts to boot, it could be the authentication signal is out of sync and causing it to fail all boots or it could be a bad chip, i only install the top 3 chips (DMS/Matrix/Crystal) and don't deal with the other chips all that often anymore.

KC,

To use a friends un-modded ps2 to copy files from a cd/dvd to a memory card, I'll need some kind of pressed disc swap program or action replay right?

This is turning out to be mega difficult to get functioning!

Are you in the uk? Do you have the equipment to do this? Or know anyone who does?

Perhaps the best thing for me to do is find someone with a functioning playstation or just the right set up to sort out the card for me. I understand I may have to offer some kind of payment for the favour.

Thoughts?

no I'm in the US what i suggested was to have your friend loan you just the CD/DVD drive from his console (they will need to have the same laser model in them both). disassemble both consoles and swap CD/DVD drives till you can get your chip flashed then put his drive back in his console. I'd also make two memory cards with the boot elf just as a backup so you don't have to borrow someones drive again.

Right, I see what you mean.

Is it easy enough to do that? I've already got my own messed up playstation, I'm a little concerned about wrecking his.

it's an easy task, not likely to do any damage to the other one at all unless you are just careless and hastful.

Are you suggesting I swap the lazer unit or the whole drive? Haven't really taken appart my machine to that extent before.

the whole drive. but the lasers have to be the same model because the 'driver' for the laser is programmed on the MOBO.

I don't think I'll risk it.

My mates is an older UK model while mine is a new-ish Japanese model. Unlikely to have the same lazer I think.

May just have to survive with the dodgy lazer.... irritating though... takes 4-5 boots before it will bring up a dvd like hd advance. Really limits what I can do.

if you have a stamped version of HD Advance (or your friends console is modded) then you can use it on your his/her console to load the files to your memory card for the chip to then Dev boot.

How would I do that?

it's a long drawn out process if you're unfamiliar with it, but you use his console to load a memory card exploit via the harddrive and your HD Advance. after you load the exploit you use the trigger disc to launch the exploit (launchelf) and then with launchelf you can copy/paste files to and from the harddrive/USB/CD/DVD and therefore you can copy the HD Loader elf (renamed to boot.elf) to your memory card into the /boot/ folder and then put it back into your console and boot in Dev mode.

Are you saying I could load the exploit cd image from the hard drive to install onto the memory card? Can HD advance load images that aren't games, such as my DMS3 HDD explorer image? Or the flash upgrade image?

In theory then, I could put these images on the HD from my pc?

Can I use a DVD game as a trigger?

I may be able to sort this on my own PS2 after all.

as long as the hd loader you use sees the exploit/flash/etc disc as a PS2 game it'll load it. I've never tried a flash disc but i have an exploit just for testing a few yrs ago and toxic OS will load it.
