Originally posted by PacMan777:LOL I'm not bothered, but it's not the way "I" chose but the way the software installer installed the program. That was the default setting and I didn't change it. Did you change the directory to install or did you use the Zip file and install? With the installer there was no need to put files anywhere as the installer did that. All I needed to do when it came available was to put the updated FixVTS (1.6.0.3) in the RipIt4Me folder. With Decrypter and Shrink installed, there was no need to even mess with the paths because the installer had them preset.
That is true what you say, unfortunately 50% of the time I change the path of where the program is going to install, unless I like the path the program chose originally. sometimes with the free programs they do not chose a good destination for it. I like to keep my files in the same type of install. I have noticed in the past that if I open the C:\Programs file that there were programs on there that I never used and most of them were not even in my "Start-> All Programs" list. That is why I do the install the way that I do.
By default most programs I've seen go to C:\Program Files. It's not especially important till you start using programs that link to others. They expect to see a certain address. With some programs like RipIt4Me, you can change the path. Some you can't. Your changing the default directory was why you needed to check and adjust your paths and the method I used had the paths preset. It doesn't really matter, just that a beginner might have some difficulty. Did you check out my little tutorial in the Saw III thread?
Nice little tutorial. The thing that I really think is funny is that I explained all of that earlier in the thread! I guess I need to start showing pics for the newbies!
I also noticed that you got thanked several times. What's up? I gave the same information. Must have been the pics...
I'll give your suggestion a shot tonight. If I remember correctly, I installed that program like two years ago. At that time I did the regular installation as you suggested. It did not throw FixVTS in the mix. When I opened the program it told me that I needed to install FixVTS along with PgcEdit I think. I can't remember exactly, but like I said that was a couple of years ago.
The reason that I moved it's location at that time was because I wanted it to show up in my "All Programs" and it did not. That is why I said that I would give your suggestion a try and see how it works.
LOL It's all in the pics. Folks just can't resist them. Plus letting things go to default installation simplifies everything for beginners and those with limited skills like myself. We covered some of the same material but you put in the part about your own file system which most people don't duplicate. For myself and other beginners I like keeping things simple. You also didn't use the new installer which beginners should use. In fact the RI4M site suggests the new installer be used. As we both know, if the paths are right and the software is up to date the program should work. But for the sake of those having problems, it's best to stay with default settings so everyone is on the same page when it comes to help with the program. If more people would use pictures I could see how to do things better. LOL
