This is a new error. DVDShrink has been working fine. Now I come up with this new error that DVDShrink has encountered a problem...Out of Memory. I have checked my system and there seems to be enough disk space and memory. I have 512MB of memory. This error came up when I was trying to shrink "Snakes on a Plane." Any ideas?

Your hard drive is most likely FAT32 which can only handle file sizes up to 3.998 gigabyte to handle larger individual files you need to convert to NTFS

timmid,
That error is because of the encryption that was used. Use Ripit4Me and it should correct that error. Below is a guide by Alcohol and if you follow it you should have no problems.

you will need to format and reinstall your os
things you might try
1.Reinstall DVD Shrink
2.It might be eating up your virtual memory so try to change the page and etc..
3.Get a different program

Timmid,
It has nothing to do w/ Fat32 conversion or re-formatting the HD. That error has been talked about extensively on the Shrink Forum. If your drive is a Fat32 drive then that does not stop Shrink from working. You just have more files but since most VOB files are 1 gb approx then this does not affect you. If you really want to convert the info is below. If you want to do the movie you have to use another decrypter as Shrink has not been updated in 3+ years and it can not do that encryption.

Car.Mike is absolutely correct.

This has to do with the newest type of "encryption" that Sony created, and that Disney and several others are currently using for numerous titles.

The way it works is, during the DVD authoring stage, the authoring company adds in one or more dummy files into one of the VTS (typically a VOB, or Video Object) that create a CRC, or Cyclic Redundancy Check error on Windows and Mac computers.

Ripit4Me does work, but what works better IMHO is FixVTS, which can be found HERE.

Ripit4Me still makes use of this program (FixVTS) to function properly, and I personally prefer fewer installed programs on my system.

Follow Car.Mike's advice or mine, but for heaven's sake, don't reinstall your OS or reformat your drives just because of this issue. That is the wrong fix for a non-existatnt issue. Alien100 and timmid are way off base here.

BTW, once you use the FixVTS program, DVDshrink works fine.

Good luck!

It's always harder to do the right thing, but you'll always be glad you did in the long run!

The others may be right i should have asked first are you saving the individual VOB etc files or getting shrink to save as an iso if it is iso then fat 32 could be the problem and DO NOT reformat just partition the drive and ntfs the new partition.
If you ARE saving vobs then fat32 is NOT the problem

roundtuit,
Even if you save it as an iso you would have 3 files if this person is in FAT32 . There would be 2 iso files and a mds file. You click on the mds file and all is well as that is the info file. I agree w/ you this person should be in NTFS but you can do an iso in a Fat32 setting w/ no problems

I followed your advice and downloaded ripit4me. I like how it works. The problem I am having now is that when I play the movie, it freezes alot on my dvd player or skips. Is this a software issue with ripit4me?

That problem is usually caused by low grade blank media. What is the brand you are using

Car.Mike is right. Also, compression can cause problems. If doing full disc with Shrink, you may need to use the Quality Settings in your burn options.

Interesting reasoning. FixVTS is a keeper either way, with or without RI4M. Shrink is needed for the transcoding, so would be a keeper either way. That leaves DVD Decrypter and RI4M itself. DVD Decrypter is an excellent ripper even if the decryption software portion is a little lacking. It makes a good burner though. So, it's a keeper. At least in my book. I've used it one way or another since I started doing backups. That only leaves the tiny macro RI4M which makes using the other software easier for beginners and experienced users. Not only does it make it easier, it sets up the PSL files for DVD Decrypter so that app can handle the newer copy protection, it also helps in cleaning up the IFOs. To be so tiny it does so much. And to think, AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2 are about 4 times larger than the suite of software making up RI4M.

I guess it must be numbers and not size. For me it would only be the addition of 1 little program to an already long list of recording software.

Philips DVD-R 8x
I haven't had a problem with them until recently. Also, when I used ripit4me today, it brought a message up that updates were available. Should I do the update? I know sometimes the updates make it worse.

That is fair blank media and I suggest you get Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blank media as it is way better. Slow the burn speed to 4X.

Uninstall Ripit4me from your system and then go to the site and d/l the update and then re-try the burn

Carmike knows what he is talking about, your first issue was doe to encryption and the second it is most likely due to low quality media. to work with cheap media, burn at 2x or 1x.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

This is a wrong statement that was made. If you are using XP Home or XP Pro you can convert to NTFS by following these steps.

To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt

1. Open Command Prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.

2. In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

For example, typing convert D: /fs:ntfs would format drive D: with the ntfs format. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command.

Important Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data, including programs and personal files, on the partition.

timmid,
Just to fill you in, sometimes people make mistakes in their comments. You do not format your machine and lose all of your data to convert from FAT, or FAT32 to NTFS. However, you will format if you chose to go back.

@AUGBOY

If you have enough RAM and hard drive space.....

That means it's time to try something else, try DVDFab decrypter.
http://www.dvdfab.com/DVDFabDecrypter3060Beta.exe

Use Anydvd and believe

Try RI4M again, but make sure that you update the FixVTS. Open RI4M and select Downloads-> Download FixVTS. Download it to where you have the current one saved. Make sure that under the Logs/Settings-> Preferences that Paths to programs is accurate. Then run RI4M again.

FixVTS should be updated in the Programs file. Start\My Computer\C:\Program Files\RipIt4Me The path will be the same as installed that way. When opened the RI4M version is 1.6.4.0 and the FixVTS should read 1.6.0.3.

I just did Saw 3 (Full DVD) and RI4M processed it with not one error. The rip including processing with FixVTS took about 30 minutes in 1-Click mode. Wizard is pretty much for those who like to play with buttons. It looks like the program works the same either way. Decrypter installed a lot of Dummy Sectors and RI4M blanked them. The backup works perfect.

Well, that also depends on how you do the original install of the program. For example, I saved mine under c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\RipIt4Me.

I like for the program to show up in my "All Programs" category. By doing the install this way, I do not have to open "My Computer" to access the C:\ drive to go under "Programs" just to make a shortcut! So your reasoning only works on the basis that whoever did the install did it the same way that you did.

That is why in the other thread I mentioned making sure that you path was set correctly. programs that I do not use very often I save under the C:\ drive, but if I use the program all the time, I want it in my programs list.

Edit: PacMan777, I'm not being offensive. It's all good:) We just have different ways of installing programs. Your way happens to be the way most people do it.

Open RI4M and select "Downloads" and then select "Download FixVTS" and it will open the web page for you to download it. Or you can go straight to the page: http://download.videohelp.com/FixVTS/Downloads.htm
Download the newest one. Make sure that RI4M is pointing to it. PacMan777 says that it should be under C:\Program Files\RipIt4Me However, that is not where mine is located. If you are not sure of where it is do a search. Replace the new file with the existing file.

Now in RI4M select "Logs/Settings" and then "Preferences". At the bottom you will see an area that says "Paths to programs" Make sure that the path to FixVTS is set appropriately. Then you should be off and running. If you need a screen shot let me know and I will post one for you.

Good luck!

LOL I'm not bothered, but it's not the way "I" chose but the way the software installer installed the program. That was the default setting and I didn't change it. Did you change the directory to install or did you use the Zip file and install? With the installer there was no need to put files anywhere as the installer did that. All I needed to do when it came available was to put the updated FixVTS (1.6.0.3) in the RipIt4Me folder. With Decrypter and Shrink installed, there was no need to even mess with the paths because the installer had them preset.
