Once your scan has completed, either press exit or power off to get out of the screen, then go to Menu and select parental control, from the parental control screen press info button and then put the code 2004 in. This will bring up the hidden option screen.
At this point you need to go down to key emu and put to (on)
Now press exit till you get back to the TV picture.
Change channel to a scrambled channel and wait for the update to run, normally takes about ten to fifteen seconds. When update is complete all channels should be clear.

I followed the instructions from Fekker and all went well untill the update ran. - the only problem is that it will not stop running - it continues in a continuous loop. If I exit all the channels remain scrambled - has any one had this problem or has any ideas? - Regards

Mine was doing the same thing till someone emailed me a wee update file to add to it. Did you get a disc and a lead to connect to your PC when you got the box?

Since I started this post I have found that satdownloads is the place to be looking if you are a newbie like I was 3 weeks ago. Simple step by step instructions on getting your SVB working again - you will need a null modem serial cable or us to 9 pin serial femal cable/connection then its a 15 minute process found in "LUCID'S" set up guide in the Star View section on www.satdownloads.co.uk
Hope this helps as i know the feeling when youve shelled out loads on SV boxes & then they stop working!!!

Well its nice to know that a solution may be available.
The bad news is that I have no disk as the supplier assured me that it was all set up ( since he sold it to me he has been unhelpful). I also do not have a cable, but I guess that I can get one fairly quickly.
I would like to reload the software - any ideas where it may be available and the 'wee update' would be most useful.
Best regards and thanks for the reply

You dont need a disc - you can download the files from the link I posted to www.satdownloads.co.uk - just get a null modem cable or a usb to 9 pin serial cable from Maplins & follow instructions on SatDownloads.

"When i did up my house I ran a coax cable from the bedroom ntl box down into the kitchen/conservatory where I have an 26"lcd on the wall; this worked great from the TV out on the back of the old ntl box meaning what ever channel was on upstairs could be watched in the kitchen also. However, I have now connected the coax to the tv out on the starview box & all I can now get downstairs (after lots of fine tuning) is a good picture but with terrible crackely sound which is impossible to hear over the hissing noise."
I have someone comming out to run coax from my starview box to my bedroom tv on thursday!! If i set the audio to PAL I will this prevent the noise problems as reported above?

i solved my problem by buying another starbox which i mounted above the lcd in the kitchen/conservatory with a coax coming via a splitter from the n*l box in my bedroom - i now have 267 channels in the conservatory & the wife can independently watch via the n*l box in the bedroom. PUUURRFECT!
Im not sure that setting the sound to PAL will solve the tv out sount problems from the starview box. I have been told that they have notoriously poor tv output signal therefore your best bet is to use a 2 or three way splitter & buy another box then you can watch whatever on all tellys.

PAL I is the system used in the UK, any other setting moves the sound carrier off frequency and cause buzzing/hissing sound.

Hi There
Just a big thank you to all those who gave me tha advice that I needed.(skywatcher, fekker, randycat and theberm)
The unit is now working just great. It turned out that the unit was loaded with software version 258 (the latest?) which may have some bugs in it.
I reflashed with 257 and it worked 1st time.
I understand that version 259 is now available but on the basis that 'if it aint broke dont fix it' i'll leave well alone
Best Regards
