That will no doubt work as always because your bypassing the source of the problem. But when AnyDVD has to face those 40 bogus titles, so far it chokes hard. Same with Vob Blanker in Auto Mode. You'll see. In the meantime RipIt4Me (FreeWare?)is on the JOB!!! It's amazing how useful DVD Decrypter still is today, long after it was last updated. A new and free software like RipIt4me comes along builds it's capabilities around an old outdated but powerful software DVD Decrypter. It's like a decrypter's, decrypter.:P

I've never stopped using DVD Decrypter. Let's give some credit to the rest of the software, FixVTS and Shrink. Without the FixVTS the files might not end up compliant. Meaning no transcoder or encoder would process the files. That little program is a must have. I was using it before RI4M. RI4M automates its use though. I know of no other free transcoder like DVD Shrink we can use. Not only does Shrink do the transcoding it also acts as a test for file compliance. If Shrink does the quick analysis, it's a good bet that the files can be transcoded or encoded successfully.

I noticed the attempt to do things without parts of RI4M. That defeats the purpose. It works as a unit. So, it needs to be set up as directed, install the last versions of Shrink and Decrypter and then install RI4M with FixVTS. Once the decryption and clean up is done, it doesn't matter whether you use the Shrink with Decrypter to transcode and burn or software of your choice. I used Rebuilder Pro with CCE for Crank and Talladega Nights and burned with Nero Express. The important part of the job is getting a "cleaned" rip and RI4M can Git-R-Done.

aDa? No, I have no desire to seek such lofty status. Guess I need to give it a rest. A rare quiet moment at home with the wife visiting her sister. LOL

@PacMan777, FixVTS was not part the equasion for me...I'm not trying to discredit it's abilities, I just didn't use it. I used CloneDVD2 2.9.0.3 instead. This is not a popular method but the idea came to mind when reading that SlySoft's AnyDVD ripper did not update it's FixVTS so per SlySofts suggestion they recommended that you use CloneDVD2 in conjunction with AnyDVD as opposed to AnyDVD's built in ripper that works with FixVTS. I just took the advice and applied it to RipIt4Me.:p

I'm not sure about Saw 3 since I can't get it till next week. Not all of us are lucky enough to be able to purchase early releases. But with Crank and Talledega Nights, you won't be doing any full discs without running FixVTS. By the way, would you supply your RipIt4Me log on that. I'd like to see what is in Saw 3 that's interfering with the backup.

I really didn't have any problems doing Talladega or Crank - both I used AnyDVD and Clone - 6.0.9.5 and 6.1.0.2 - the latest at the time of release.
I did full back except for Crank where I unchecked the 2nd version of the movie w/ the director thing in it.
No looping or any playback problems.

But yeah I can't wait to get my hands on Saw 3 :)

I'm sure there will be a ton of threads on it.

@PacMan777, I hear you mention, these titles "Crank" and "Talledega Nights" But they didn't pose a problem at all to me though they both were encrypted with the now normal cocktail of encryption. Before all of this worsened encryption found on "SAW III" & "OPEN SEASON" my method was to Run AnyDVD in the backround along side Nero 7 Recode2 which worked 95% of the time with acception of titles that are loaded with extra's that exceeded NERO's Recode2 compression limits, for those titles I would then use AnyDVD & CloneDVD2. I guess you learn something new everyday. But when any and all try this method I used they will be able to back up either SAW III or "OPEN SEASON" do keep it in mind, again it works.:P

Most of the problems with backing up movies are either with using the wrong software or software not updated to do particular copy protections. So far no one has supplied a log of a decryption of Saw 3 that I've seen and the AnyDVD doesn't give a breakdown of cells and bogus titles. RI4M shows an excellent one.

One thing I wonder about some claims is that certain software don't have automatic editing abilities. How are those programs dealing with bogus files if they're not able to edit or blank them? (Rhetorical question) They can't. Any software that can do movie only can often do a backup.

I started doing backups when the first DVD burners came on the market. Once I learned the software and what was involved with the protection, I've been able to do all the movies and that includes the increased protection. It's been a gradual increase in protection with Sony leading the way. The new stuff is more or less just a lot more of what was there before, structure protection, bogus files, protected cells, ARccOS, and Puppetlock. With a little inventiveness and the software support teams getting the software updated quickly as needed, there's been no real problems. A famous play by Shakespeare comes to mind, "Much Ado About Nothing".

I've been asking for someone to supply an RI4M log on this one. They've shown that app works as well when the user clicks Okay to warnings a few times during the rip. DVDIdle is updated, and AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 are supposedly up to date.

A few more days and I'll have my own copy. I'm of the same school as alkohol, aabbccdd, binkie and the others here, I don't think it's going to be anything or real merit. Like I've said before, the new copy protectioin doesn't appear to be all that much. Of course they may fool me, but so far the guys with the decryption software have kept up or stayed ahead. My hats off to them and I hope they keep up the good work.

Did you use the 3060 Beta? DVDIdle specifically updated the program for Saw 3 and people have said it works.

None of the releases have really been a big deal yet. There's always a fuss made and then the software is updated and the backups get done. It hasn't failed yet. ;) Most often the problems are faulty discs, faulty hardware, and user error.

@PacMan777 Yeah...I was the same way, I was supposed to get SAW III last week with a few other new titles and back when I read the 1st thread and even with the knowledge of the 40 bogus title sets, My success rate would not allow me to believe that this new Arccos encryption was all that tough of nut to crack. I still managed to purchase SAW III early and I proceeded to make a back-up disc for travel using my normal time efficient approaches as I have mentioned and nothing? I also mentioned previously that I strayed from freeware for the most part as I have chosen to support the efforts of SlySoft retail software that I felt was always more consistent in their approach of resolving a given encryption conflict found on the most popular newly released DVD's.

I'm a changed man, due to this instance with Arccos encryption as the people behind RipIt4Me software mirrored the proactive approach previously and only seen with SlySoft in recent times. Again, A new respect for freeware particularly DVD Decrypter. I can really see why Macrovision aquired the software. With regards to each members methods of backing up a given title, hey it varies and as you can see so far the accomplishment can defy the logic of even someone like yourself, with seemingly vast knowledge of decrypting, encoding, and transcoding software and their capabilities. Personally I tried whatever back-up software I have at my disposal and that includes Nero 7 Recode2, Several versions of AnyDVD (as some older updates perform better than newer ones?)CloneDVD2 2.9.0.3, SHRINK, (In combination w/NERO) & Vob Blanker 2.1.0.0

I reluctantly used RipIt4Me and it worked as many promised it would. My approach as I explained was again different and supported by the fact that I did not have the usual supporting software installed on my PC. I improvised. Once RipIt4Me and DVD Decrypter did it's job in wizard mode. I bypassed SHRINK & FixVTS and used CloneDVD2 instead, which to your surprise worked and based on what I've read about both FixVTS and CloneDVD2 software capabilities, it worked. So if I can request to you, As soon as you purchase SAW III take a few minutes and validate the back up method I chose and you too will see it works. It may not be the logical way perscribed, but it works. RipIt4Me 1.6.4.0 in normal combination with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 in wizard mode, I guess you would need to disable or uninstall FixVTS (As RipIt4Me automatically looks or points to it) and use CloneDVD2 2.9.0.3 instead. "Happy Burning":P

From what I've read CloneDVD2 is a transcoder. I'll have to give it a try sometime to see if Slysoft has made it the miracle app that some are claiming. It would now have to be doing IFO and VOB cleanup much as IFOEdit and FixVTS along with the transcoding process. I've seen some movies it won't do (at least in full dvd). I prefer not using it because it doesn't do as good a job of video reproduction as an encoder, if much compression is involved. So putting it back in the mix for me hasn't been much of a goal since I almost always do full disc.

Same here, I don't do "Movie Only" in most cases and when I do I use CloneDVD2's unique "Movie Only" w/preserved menus feature which is still not considered a full back up. Look at it like this I paid for CloneDVD2, FixVTS is freeware and granted if I was the type to tinker with a DVD's structure or just into editing i.e. warning labels or trailers myself or even using RipIt4Me on the regular, I guess FixVTS would be a software of steady interest and already installed on my PC, as I mentioned and as you know RipIt4Me automatically points to it. RipIt4Me could not detect it and I successfully improvised.

Backing up "SAW III" and "OPEN SEASON" was my 1st time using RipIt4Me for which I assumed FixVTS was built into the software. For my method of backing up a title it's only natural that I look to use what has worked for me. Again, we live and learn and you too can add CloneDVD2 to your DVD back-up methods as I do. I can also say that you will find that including CloneDVD2 in the final RipIt4Me process is possibly faster than the normal closing RipIt4Me steps of SHRINK to possibly FixVTS (As it is not always needed)and then a burning software of your choice. For these title's CloneDVD2 does those final steps for you...you'll see.;P

@aabbccdd, Ditto that, for these titles, I rewarded my efforts by putting both "SAW III" and "OPEN SEASON" on DVD-9 8.5 DL disc. Though I don't normally do this.:P

Also an added interesting fact that came from these back-ups is that the back-ups remain partially encrypted with "Invalid VOBU's" still intact? Go figure. This is not new, and there are many who have said it does NOT happen. Once you have completed a back up to disc, pop it into your PC's optical drive with AnyDVD enabled and bring up AnyDVD's status screen.:p

You must have got the zip file, because if you'd used the installer, it installs FixVTS for you. I have no idea as to why you'd worry about the little app being installed. It's so small in file size that it barely registers, all of 116 KB. RI4M automatically puts it in the Programs folder with the installer and to update FixVTS, you copy the new FixVTS into the folder. It's a single file, so no problem. With the wizard, it's use is optional. Also, without Shrink, you can use Nero Recode 2 to do a quick analysis if you have it. The quick analysis just tells you if the files are compliant. You don't have to run it for transcoding. RI4M will work with just DVD Decrypter, but I don't see not using the other programs with the macro since everything is free. File sizes are ridiculously small, Shrink 947 KB, DVD Decrypter 923 KB, and the RI4M with FixVTS and help files 1.38MB. The whole setup is only about 3 MB. For the sake of comparison AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 combined are over 12 MB, 4 times larger. Even the AnyDVD-CloneDVD2 combo is negligible. That's why I have a bunch of little apps on my systemt. That way I'm better prepared. I use retail as well as free, but free feels so much better. ;)

Most of the time it has been AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter ripping to the HD with FixVTS as needed. I was doing that before AnyDVD got a ripper. Then RB/CCE and burn with Nero Express. With RB Pro I can run a batch and let the PC run overnight when I have several backups to do. With just one backup it will use ImgBurn, so all I need to do is load a disc in the burner and let it go. I've got one of the newer dual core PCs, so I can do backups while using the PC for whatever I want. The old idea of not multitasking while doing backups got thrown out the window.

I still keep Shrink for the utilities and I've got a bunch of other transcoders. I've got about 3 retail apps loaded now, including CloneDVD 2.
