your best best for PS2 running a hard drive is the Crystal Chip V2.0 or the DMS4 Pro SE
Both have support to run large hard drives.

as far as the hard drive you would need to say which version PS2 you have. A V14,15 or 16 you might as well hand it up because all you could get is an external.
A V12 or V13 you can get an HD Combo case for
and the older fat models all you need is a network adapter and a compatible HDD

I HAVE THE FIRST PS2 THAT CAME OUT.. THE FAT BOY !! MY FRIEND SAID THE INTERNAL HDD FITS INSIDE THE FAT BOY PS2 AND ALL HE DID WAS USW AN HD LOADER DISK. NOTHING MORE. HE DIDN'T USE ANY OF THE SOFTWARE THAT'S TALKED ABOUT IN THESE FORUMS. SO I'M SCRATCHIN MY HEAD A BIT. WHAT KINDA SET UP DO YOU HAVE ? I KNOW WITH THE SLIM PS2 YOU NEED AN EXTERNAL. AND WHAT HDD IS COMPATIBLE?

I TYPE IN CAPS CAUSE I'M AT WORK AND ALL WE USE IS CAPS TO RUN ADP.. CAN'T TAKE IT OFF.

You can run HD Advance without having a modchip (but you do need a network adapter). Compatibility isn't as good as Toxic OS, or patched HD Loader.

v12/13 slimlines can also use a hard drive if an adapter is soldered in.

TYPING IN ALL CAPS MAKES YOU LOOK DUMB

EDIT: ADP IS DUMB?

You need the network adapter to connect a hard drive to the PS2.

What is it you are trying to do?

I WANT THE BEST SET UP FOR MY MODEL PS2 AND I ALSO WANT SOME KIND OF GUIDE OR WALK THROUGH EXPLAINING HOW EACH SET UP WORKS. WHAT EXACTLY DOES THE MOD CHIP DO. HOW TO HOOK UP THE HDD INTERNALLY. ALL THOSE KINDA QUESTIONS. BUT FOR NOW, I HAVE TO START WITH MY PS2 (FAT BOY ONE). I HAVE A WD INTERNAL HD 120GB. I HAVE THE ADAPTER. I NEED TO LOCATE THE RIGHT SOFTWARE.

A modchip lets you run unpressed discs (aka backups) as well as PS2 executable files (ELF's). Read up on the chips to see their different features.

If you use HD Advance, you do not need a modchip. For this:

1) Buy HD Advance
2) Buy Network Adapter
3) Take apart Network Adapter to fit Western Digital hard drive
4) Fit hard drive to adapter
5) Fit network adapter to PS2 (with HDD)
6) Insert HD Advance into PS2
7) Put game(s) to HDD
8) Profit!

"WHERE CAN I GET THE HD ADVANCED ??"

do people here still not know what a search engine is?
For god sakes take a little initiative and do a search.
You will be better off in the long run if you have to actually research something on your own every now and then.
Asking questions is one thing, being completely lazy and wanting every little piece of information spoon fed to you is another.

NEMOWUNER, yes there is a need for it. People need to be at least competent enough to type the words "HD Advance" in a search engine box. It is nothing personal.

I understand needing help and am more than glad to do it. But there is a certain point in the game where you need to take the ball and run with it. When someone has already provided all the information you could need, searching for the stuff before you ask where you can find it would at least be the courteous thing to do. Notice how your question of where to get it was answered with a link to a search page? That was a subtle way to say that you could have searched for it yourself.

If you're lazy, go buy a pre-modded system.

TRUE !!! YOU DO SPEAK THE TRUTH. BUT, THIS IS A FORUM, THIS IS WHERE YOU GO TO GET INFO. I AM DEALING WITH PPL WHO HAVE EXPERIANCE IN THIS SUBJECT. DIRECT LINX AND INFO IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING TO HAVE. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T READ THE POST. THERE ARE PLEANTY OF THREADS THAT YOU CAN GIVE POSITIVE OPINION TOWARDS. I WORK.. ALOT.. 2 JOBS AND A FAMILY. TIME ON THE PC IS LIMITED.. YOU FEEL ME.. THAT'S WHAT'S CALLED "A LIFE". BUT I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON MY OWN. FOUND SOME GOOD INFO BUT THERE WAS SOME THINGS I HAVEN'T FOUND YET. BUT ONCE AGAIN, THANX FOR THE HELP ON MY QUESTIONS. I HAVE ALREADY ADD SOME INFO ON PUTTING THE OLD PS2 UNIT TOGETHER WITH THE HDD TO THE NETWORK ADAPTER. DETAILED INFO FOR THOSE "LAZY" PPL WHO ARE NOT COURTEOUS.

you really don't have to tell me about the forums.
"You have posted 7876 messages since you created your account on 2 December 2004"
I kind of figured it out by now. I donate my free time here and answer tons of questions every day, and i look at every post that i think i can help someone out with. we all have "a life", but some of use choose to use part of ours giving back to a community that has given us so much. You don't have to like it, or me for that matter and i would still continue to help you with questions. "Because that's how i roll".
