?These arrests serve as a reminder to potential movie thieves that whether you use a camcorder or a cell phone, stealing movies off the silver screen is a crime and you will be ... [ read the full article ]

Fair enough, i watch the transformer trailer, and i know i wont go and watch it at the cinema. I wont rush out to buy or rent it. But i will end up watching it some day.
Most films are awful, and you can tell from the trailer instantly, or even the movie poster.

Its a bit weak, but its a simi brain dead summer flick "bakuhatsu" (not as in bomb but flashy explosives) its not bad but tis not great, its good enough for me to want to get the DVD tho, since most comic/game/odd IP films get raped for mass "consumption".
It always annoys me over the excuses made for comic films "they have to make it like this because it will sale" blah thats BS, they make it like that because they do not have the talent or foresight to make it better, changing it into something its not is so damn aggravating,Xmen is pretty much the most successful "rapeatation" hollywood has done yet,Sipdr man 1 and even 2 are not so bad,3 is god awful tho, ghost rider is watered down and regerated for the woolie masses...its just fing sad.... at least TF survived the "changes" even if its weak.

Having been a manager at a video store several years ago, there really is alot of crap that comes out. I'd say I rarely download a cam release unless I'm not sure that the movie is worth paying to see. In the case of Ghost Rider, I think I watched 15 minutes, and judged it to be pretty good (along with a friend's recommendation) and paid full price for it, and it turned out to be pretty bad. Albeit, there is alot worse out there, which is why I wait for the budget theaters or DVD releases.
Let's not kid ourselves here, most of you get backups of DVD's or make them yourselves. If you have a service like Netflix, you're still contributing to the industry, but if you download cams or xvids, you don't deserve to see the movie in my opinion. However, the Catch-22 being if the download gets you to make a purchase. As far as buying a DVD, I might purchase 5 a year, because how many movies are actually worth a spot on your shelf?

so gettign a cheap cam job to preview a movie with all the video and audio issues is bad? please its more like a string of trailers.
I skimmed though ghost rider I really could not set and watch it, I think the final straw was the metrosexaul vampires as demons that got me,Ghost rider himself was a bit stiff, changing the rider history was stupid all in all fodder for sales nothing worth owning or paying any money for.. I can say the same about emo sidy 3....sandman was not so bad new goblin was dim and man voice venom was pitiful.
Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

How much does a cinema have to pay per play of a film?
or is it linked to how many people come and see it?
or is it a combo of the two?

All I want to know is why did they only charge the girl in Georgia with "Stealing" a movie and not the pot. The last time i checked, no one has ever had there life completely ruined from illegally recording movies, as some have had theirs ruined from drugs. In my opinion, the movie police probably should have called the real police, and had them (the real police) handle the situation.
Just as a comparison, if an individual robs a bank and fires a gun in the process, do they ignore that he fired the gun in order to emphasize that he was trying to steal money?

oh shit, I just gave them new ideas... =P
The movie theaters tried that law down here in Australia but somebody took them on for restrictive trading and the theaters lost. :-)
Go the little guy!!!!

this is where being inventive with consumer friendly fees would come into play, charge 5$ pre ice bag (you know thos stay cool bags for meats and stuff, they also have bag based coolers) make a simple clean up charge if you want to bring your own stuff charge 5-10$ for it, they spend so much time raping the consumer they forget that if you ask nicely and try and not charge so much they will bend over without being forced :P

Why do you need the whole film in cam quality to judge whether it is worth spending any money on?
Most people can tell from a Trailer whether it's their cup of tea or not. I think downloading a cam copy to make sure you like a film, and that it's worth spending any money, is a bit over the top to be honest.
Ahh you don't know what kind of nuts power this forum. We have too much time on our hands and we do it because we can.
Hey Zippy I like your taste in flicks Hell Boy that was a sweet one.

Ya I was surprised over hellboy, since I knew lil about the comic I could relax a bit, even so the charatcers and humor came through well,it was a solid non pompous action flick, when thous "people" try and tell me Xmen is done with style and grace I turn off, sorry I don't care if the writers of the comics where there,I don't take kindly to pompous action flicks they try and "recreate" the IP they are based on.....

I went and saw this film in the theatre and to be totally honest with you I didn't go to the movie expecting much. The movie was actually a whole lot better than I thought it would be. I was expecting a movie that was completely CGI and a little more exciting than a cartoon. That is not what this one turned out to be. There were some quite good action sequences as well as car chases. The main female character was eye candy with a mechanical knowledge of how things work, and believe it or not there were quite a few funny parts too.

There have been telecine machines for ages, and that's how film is captures for transfer to DVD (and friends). The problem is that the machines are expensive and to make use of it you need to get your hands on the actual film of the movie, which is more difficult to do than use a camcorder from the audience.

I personally did not like this film due to the fact that it was not at all interesting. If they got arested for this film well thats their own headache. Cam versions are no good anyway.

The cam version i got was pretty good (if it wasnt i would get it exchanged!) especially since i got it 3wks before it came out, but i got it by accident & didnt realise it was the film version until i read about in a Face-Off version with The Simpsons Movie also out on the same day (27th July) LOL
Although the story-line was a bit thin, but the action sequences were the filler throughout the film, no doubt there will be a sequel as usual :)

Heh, i forgot to say i got it at a car-boot/market stall one sat.
But i was wondering that myself!
But as i said in my previous post i hadnt realised there was a film about it til i picked it up with others & read about how The Simpsons Movie was out the same w/end as well.
I must ask them the next time i see them, as they might have The Simpsons Movie as well?
