Hello iso loader...
I wouldn't count on it if I were you.
One day, when Sony will see that with only 10 million PS3s sold they will lose, they will just release a firmware that supports all the back ups. Like they did with PSP.
So IMHO Sony will release the firmaware that would allow the isos and homebrew to be played.
They did it before, they'll do it again.

Right, before u flame, i am fully aware there is currently no working mod out there for the PS3.
Has anybody succesfully copied a blu-ray disk? if so, how can i get my hands on one. I just happen to have access to a PS3 test unit, and rumour has it that the copy disks will play on these. Mega keen to try this out and will report bac with results...
Cheers

i have a backup of virtua fighter 5 on blu-ray but i'm not keen on giving it up so you can play it on the test unit. because we already know they work on test units. that's common knowledge. now if you were to tell me you know what you're doing and it could possibly open a door, i'd send it with a bow.

You can only play PS3 games with original disk in the drive. Thats the only available option, mate.

Since i don't own a Blu-ray disc or HD, mind if I ask how the discs stand up to scratches? The first batch of DVD movies were in some cases so poorly made, a few scratches made them impossible to use. It took about 2-3 years for the major studios to start offering quality DVDs at reasonable prices & mass produce them to offset costs.
btw, anyone care to speculate if the HDD will be the exploit that gets used first (PS3 HDD Loader) or will the disc encyption be cracked (Swap Magic PS3 & modchips)? I would prefer a HDD exploit over making backup discs.

Really? I guess we all would:D
There are several "big" problems with that:
-the disk is only 60 gb or 80... whatever. Thats for 3 games max
-the disk is FAT32 formatted so no single files bigger than 4 GB can exist on such file system (and a PS3 ISO is way bigger)
-a big external NTFS drive could resolve some of this issues, but it is unknown if it could realy work this way
-and the bigger problem: each bluray disk game will have a unique encription. So the ISO loader of today would probably not load games of the future (with different encryption). It could mean that we would have a separate loader for each game (less probable) or the devs would update the loader each time a new game comes out.
-and the biggest problem: nobody knows the encryption key.
Anybody that knows whats encryption knows that todays stuff is realy hard to break without keys.
I heard an estimate that it would take a current high end computer at least 20 years of trying to decrypt the encryption on a single bluray disk game. And that would only be good for playing that one game and not all the PS3 games.

No one but the ones working on it knows.. They dont even know, the can guestimate, but thats it.. Honestly I think it will be a very long time before it happens.. Sony is keeping up with updates.. With the issues of ISO loaders on PSP and PS2, I really dont Sony is going to let it happen so quickly and easily. You all can wait and not update, thinking that one day there will be an ISO Loader, but I will stick to my updates and new features, as little as they may be. Like I have repeated a million times... Even if there is an ISO Loader, you might as well buy the game, you will come out even if not even save money by doing so. Why? B/c First Blue-ray burners and disc are expensive as hell. If you could load games by HDD, you will need to buy either really big HDD's or multiple HDD's. In my opinion its not worth it.. In its early stage.. not atleast until resizing the games or figuring. But then I would think you would lose quality, then what is the purpose of HD on your new PS3 and HD tv? Everyone stop asking bout ISO Loading and buy a PS2, you can play all kinds of "backed up disc", media and emulators....Plus you dont have to keep asking about mod's, there's info all over the net....Do like I do keep your old PS2 on the shelf under the PS3 for all your back up and emulation needs....

And for that reason my friend is the reason why I never installed the swap switch. Why in the hell would I open up my ps3 when my ps2 has already been modded. Pull your ps2 back out of the closet and use that for ps2 backups people. I also like the new features of each firmware update, but with each firmware update we lose the chance of being able to crack the ps3. I'm really starting to believe that there will not be a hack for a long time.

well this is just what i've heard but the blu-ray drive firmware has been dumped and you know they are looking at it very good. i even heard that c4eva may be looking into it. if you don't know who he is , he does the xbox360 firmware hacks. of course this is just "he say, she say" but i could imagine that it's possible. something along the lines of what the 360 has going as far as backups. hopefully we'll know something more soon. and blu-ray burners are going down in price. saying we could play backed up games on disk, i would invest in a burner as would many other people i'm sure. would save money in the long run.

Especially after Pioneer and Mitsubishi released new information that BD Discs CAN be made using existing production lines (with minor upgrades) with the invention/implementation of a new dye. Which will hopefully mean the price of BD-R's dropping in price significantly.
Quote: Blu-ray has long been wrist-slapped for being the more expensive HD format to produce. Despite that, Pioneer and Mitsubishi have trusted themselves and worked towards a better tomorrow ... so to speak. These two companies have finally made a breakthrough in commercializing recordable Blu-ray discs with an organic dye in the recording layer. This dye is apparently what will make manufacturing Blu-ray discs so cheap. Go figure.
The standardization of this dye basically means that mass production of the discs is possible which would drive costs into the ground -- the same facilities for DVD-R and CD-R are now open to Blu-ray discs. We could see the price of Blu-ray discs themselves fall sooner than expected, though on the consumer side of things, we'll probably still be charged the premium for an HD movie and such. Still, good to know progress is being made!

Great news but the main problem in my mind is the absurd price of the Blue-Ray burners them self.

Do you remember the price of early DVD drives? The drive itself was 500$, let alone a burner which was waaaaaay more expensive.
Look today: they throw you a multiformat burner in whatever you buy. And it costs like 50$. Time is the price killer of electronics.
