Exactly, but say if a BD burner (that is confirmed working with PS3 hypothetically) that takes anywhere from 25-35 minutes to burn a 50gb BD-R was available for around $350 sometime next year. I would jump on it with no qualms, as it would get multi duty for PS3, Movie (when possible) & PC files backup (mainly this one though).

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take to crack the PS2 and extract the ISO and play it?

Roughly six months before a working mod chip came into the picture for the ps2. I had a gameshark and swapped disc that way. Thats when DVD-r were as rare as BD-r.

I'm sort of suprised how long it has taken to crack the whole PS3 system, when you consider other consoles like Wii, PS2, NDS and PSP were pretty much cracked within the first couple of months of it release. TBH I reckon that if modchips did come up for PS3 it will undoubtedly boost it sales.

It would boost console sales, but the games would dramatically drop in sales (where sony are currently making their money from).

Fat PSP: 3.03 oe-c (will update when i have time :P)

Ya damn WTF is taken so long? I respect those who are trying their hardest to crack the encryptions and so on but, man. When the PS3 does get hacked though, I think it will definitely become something to have. That's why I bought my PSP, and I still think it's like the greatest :)

The only reason that is my sig is because my ps3 tag stopped showing up for some reason. Everything has a purpose such as my signature. I'm going to be nice before I say something I will regret.

Anyway, whats new? A friend swears up and down that there is a codebreaker in the works for ps3. Is there any validity to this?

I have the PS3 and I am wondering if you could actually take an External HD and plug it up to the USB ports and somehow trick your ps3 into using that as a game... like run the ISO's off of that... then it wouldnt take up alot of space and you dont need the disks.?

I'm glad this has been stickied, but your still going to have a lot of newb posts asking the same question over and over. I was reading the swap switch tutorial and enjoyed the mod where the man put three switches into an intercooler(I'll go back to look at your name to give you credit). Not only did he retain original functionality it could also play backups. While reading through other threads it has been said several times that the swap switch will not work for ps3 backups, but has anyone with a blu-ray burner even tried? I took the time to read most of that thread, but I didn't see where anyone tried with a ps3 backup. I was tired and may have over looked it. On another note I'll be glad to see when an exploit comes out, but at the same time I hope that the playstation network is monitored better than ps2 online games. I am not looking forward to playing against mod disk users again.
What are you talking about? i'm sorry but i'm look0i0ng into getting a PS3 and would like to know what i'm in for.

I actually could care less if we could play backups or not. I have hundreds of games for my PS2 and have played maybe 5 minutes on them. Its kinda like a kid a candy store. The kid is going to get every piece of candy in the store, never really finishing the previous piece, but if you go buy him one piece of candy he/she will finish the candy and the WRAPPER... In other words.. Not being able to play backups on the PS3 has given me the chance to actually play the games I own through. I actually picked up Oblivion back in May, played it a couples time, than over Thanksgiving I started playing it again and I am actually enjoying it more than I previously did. Plus I am Warhawk burned-out until the new updates arrive.

FAT32 file system will not allow the transfer of files over 4 gig thats why. How could we trick the system into thinking it's a game? I had a similar theory but it was never confirmed. With certain versions of swap magic you could boot ps2 elf files. I thought that it might be possible to use USB advance and boot games off of an external hard drive, but this would only work for ps2 games. People have been trying to find an exploit for some time and have not been successful. Any theory that any of us have come up with have all been shot down. Read the rest of the thread and you would have known that.

can someone please help me.

i have been copying dvds for years now, using dvd decrypter, shrink, dvdfab platinum, etc. i bought a ps3 about 4 months ago, and i have noticed that some dvds i burn, most recently Hot Rod, the copied disc will not play in the ps3. it doesnt spit it out, it just shows the loading symbol in the upper right hand corner, and shows nothing in the video section of the dashboard. the copy works in all of my standalone players. why is this happening and can i fix it?

thanks
carson

CDloader and DVDloader are the same thing. Thats just the name of the program. All it does is allow for a disc swap stopping the motor on your PS2. This has been tried on the PS3 with the swap switch but will not read bluray backups.

jus ripped the dvd to DVD9 .iso file, burned with decrypter. loads, and the blue LED is on showing a disc in the tray, but nothing shows up on the ps3 dashboard.
