omfg...ffs I'm getting so sick of this. I have the same problem and even though I'm doing everything right and my memory stick is 100% genuine (I've tried 3 different MS!) I still get the same stupid error.

I've tried doing it manually and with the GUI easy installer but the MMS isn't working. When trying to logically format the memory stick in the command prompt, I get the same message "Logical drive has more than a physical drive. Cannot handle it."

See...

And this is what I get with the GUI. It's meant to come up with stuff telling me to press Y but instead it flashes for a millisecond (I managed to print screen it quick enough)

Even though I get this error, I can still complete the MMS and turn my battery into a jigkick battery but then when I run em both together, the PSP screen stays black...pretty certain because of the MMS getting the error and not installing properly.

I just got a PSP Slim and it's driving me nuts not being able to make the damn MMS while everyone else seems to be able to. I have Windows XP. I tried on both my brother's computers which have XP too and it still has the same problem. I have 3.52M33-4...are there any special settings I'm meant to be on for this to work? Please help someone...I'm seriously so desperate. I been spending hours trying to do this and I'm just wasting SOO much time..

Try using this application HERE.

It cuts out the PC and it only uses the PSP to create the files you need. It requires running a PSP with CFW 3.XX or higher.

I haven't tested it myself but I am about to.

UPDATE: Tested and it actually works. Made the Pandora battery + Memory Stick with no PC involved.

All you have to do is download the above application.

Format your memory Stick via PSP System Settings (No need to use PC and mspformat on this version).

Extract the above file you downloaded and place the "pan3xx" folder in the /PSP/GAME folder.

Now download the 1.50 EBOOT HERE and rename it to UPDATE.PBP and place it in the ROOT of the memory Stick.

Now go to Games menu memory Stick and run the application. Then follow the on screen menu.

Press X to install 1.50 + Pandora files. Then install the msipl.bin (You can use the default 1 that the application Provides).

Convert he battery to a Pandora battery if you have not yet done it.

Then use as normal Pandora battery. Place Magic Memory Stick in PSP that your unbricking/downgrading add the Pandora battery and the menu should come up.

@ Donilla

it's perfectly fine for you to send a vid, just hook u up with a link and ill take a look at your problem, also you might want to consider larrylje's advice, see if that method works for you, he's tested and marked it sucessful, so give that a try, seems your ms dos is F**king you up a bit...

@ bboy

try shifting that msinst.exe and msipl.bin files over to the C:\ drive and try it from there for the last function, for the first im not entirely sure, but please confirm with me: you're running a memory stick higher than... 64mb? also, use the precise command

cd c:\
C:\>mspformat H

instead of mspformat.exe H, it may affect your matters, otherwise i'd recommend larrylje's advice on running the self-contained psp installer, seems like an easier way to run the pandora's battery for a new person to the unbricking scene...

OMG yes finally!!!! Thanks larry! I'm over the moon. Finally it's working now because of that installer. My Slim is on 3.71M33 now. Soooo relieved.

@ monosoft

Nup, I tried that already...but same error comes up. It's just not possible for me to logically format the MS by using the command prompt. I tried on my brothers computers but the same thing happens. Oh well, that installer did the trick for me.

Thanks everyone!

@ Donilla

Try that installer. It will definitely work for you!

I made my universal memory stick really easy. I just used the gui to logically format the stick, deleted all files except the psp folder and the game folder then put the eboots in the psp folder and the despertar del cementerio in the game folder. done!!!

Hey,
I was running into the same issue when tryig mspformat...but thanks to Larry, I think I managed to create the memory stick and the pandora battery. However, I just tried putting them into my PSP slim. The power light came on, but the other 2 lights stayed off. The screen got a bit brighter, then when back to black. So, basically...I'm wondering what this means. Am I supposed to do anything else?

I basically ran through the QUICKSTART.txt that came with the package that Larry provided, did all that. Then I took out the memory stick and the battery (from the phat psp that was running one of Dark Alex's CFW's) and put the memory stick into the PSP slim. I then put the battery in there. And then, like I said, the power light came on, but nothing happened.

EDIT: And before I forget to mention...I tried putting the mem stick and battery back into my phat PSP, and the "Pandora's Battery Recovery Menu" comes up. If that means anything. I don't even know how to get past this screen without using another battery/memory stick.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!!

The installer only installs files to recover/downgrade to 1.50 firmware which your PSP SLIM can not be downgraded to 1.50 firmware.

Go HERE and follow this guide to make a Magic memory Stick that will install 3.71 M33-2 to your PSP SLIM This uses the same installer but you will need to run the Despertar del Cementero application to modify the memory Stick further to install 3.71 M33-2 to your PSP SLIM (Disregard the 1.50 ADD ON part of the guide since it can not be installed on a PSP SLIM).

If you already converted the PSP FAT Battery to a Pandora Battery then use your AC adapter to power on the FAT PSP without the Battery in. Once you have powered up the FAT PSP with the AC Adapter add the Battery. Now start over by formating the Memory Stick and download the files linked to the guide above and follow the guide you will then have a Universal Unbricker/Upgrader that will install 3.71 M33-2 to your PSP SLIM (You can skip the step that tells you to change the Battery to a Pandora Battery since your FAT Battery is already converted).

Thanks for the prompt reply! Your tutorials seem quite easy to follow, and I love that lol. Anyways, I kinda have a problem. I'm using a 64MB pro duo to make my magic mem stick, but the files that I have to copy at the start end up being about 71MB. Do I really need all the files in the UniversalFiles folder? Is the only option I have to use a bigger card? The only cards I have at the moment are 2 64MB cards, and a 4GB, and I've read that the 4gb cards can sometimes not work with all this...and I don't really want to risk bricking or messing up the 4gb card if thats even possible.

I look forward to your response. Thanks again! Really appreciate it larry!

yes you will need to use a larger memory stick, dont worry the pandora's battery + magic memory stick process only has a potential of ruining your battery, the memory stick will be perfectly fine ^_^ just back up all the files on that larger memory stick, because you will be asked to format the memory stick a couple of times.... ^_^

THANKS SO MUCH GUYS!
I ended up using my brothers 512MB card instead, but it worked perfectly. I now have a 3.71 M33-2 on my slim white PSP. It's great...I even popped in my 4gb which was in my phat before (preloaded with a couple of iso's/cso's) and tried one out just to see if it worked. And it did. Really great stuff guys!

Anyways...just a quick question. I used an extra PSP battery I had to make the Pandora, and I'm also going to purchase a cheap 128-256 card to make a permanent magic memory stick out of. So with this combination, can I just take my friend's PSP, pop in the stick, then the battery, and downgrade/hack their PSP just like that...within a minute or so? And same with a bricked PSP, I just pop in the 2, and flash it to 3.71/3.71 M33-2?

And is it just for the SLIM psp...or can it be used with slim or phats? I used the last guide that larry pointed me to...so can the 3.71 m33-2 work on the phat psp's also?

Thanks again guys...this is so amazing lol...didn't know hacking the slim could be this simple. I still remember when getting my 1.51 phat to 1.50 took a while. This was just ridiculously simple. Thanks again!

Cheers,
-biasif

Yeah this will unbrick/upgrade any PSP FAT/SLIM to 3.71 M33-2. You can add the 1.50 ADD ON to FAT PSP's as well to make it more compatible with 1.50 kernel homebrew (1,50 ADD ON isn't compatible with SLIM so don't install it on SLIM PSPs).
