I my opinion, CloneDVD's image is as good if not better than shrink. Also you can remove anything you want out of the disc with the Re-author feature of shrink. But then menus won't work if you do that. I always used Shrink before, Now that I have CloneDVD & Anydvd, they're my 1st choice. Jerry

TheOne30 sorry about the late reply, minimal access to a computer these daze :(

I didn't realize you were using platinum, it prolly has some sort of detection built in, i've only copied an express disk with DVD Shrink, which i'm loving more and more (gotta love that freeness).

If you do find a way or here a way theOne30, let us know. Cheers.

I paid for X copy express too, Then after I found this site with all the help and free software like Shrink, X copy just sits on my desktop. You live and learn. Money would have been better spent on CloneDVD and Anydvd. Jerry

WOW! Lot's of good info in here! First timer here looking to get info on burning a copy from a copy. Lots of ideas have been mentioned but I'm wondering if someone can break it down more simplisticly for a newbie. I don't know what all these different programs mentioned are used for. I have Win XP, a DVD reader, the sony500 external DVD writer, EasyCD Creator 5.?, and the much discussed DVDXCOPY (not express). I've used EasyCD Creator to make a few backups of backups but most the time it doesn't work, the dvd only gets about 30-40% done. What should I do? Thank you sooo much!

There are many different ways to go about copying a dvdxcopy backup.
On the older versions of DvdXCopy you can simply remove the archive.txt file that the program creates in its temp folder BEFORE burning the movie - the newer versions will not burn if this file is missing. If you have an older version and are able to do this it is the easiest (while keeping with Dvdxcopy).
Alternatively you may rip the video off of a backup copy and then use something such as Nero to burn a new dvd using its wizard. I have been told you can also use Nero and simply do a dvd to dvd copy , which I have done but the outcome wasnt as good for some reason. What I have done is used programs such as dvdshrink with the backup copy and simpy let it do its thing. If I understand correctly DvdXCopy retains the encyption on the backup so it may be best to simply rip the backup to your hard drive then use your writting software to burn a new dvd, but havent really tried that yet. What I currently do is (using old version of DvdXCopy Xpress) "remove" the warning (not really remove it just have it skip it using ifoedit) then remove the archive.txt file before I burn the dvd. Seems to work so far

garzajd, thank you for the quick reply. I just got DXC so I'm sure it's a 'newer' version. With that said, I need to 'rip' the dvd to the hard drive. How do I do this and with what program?? And with the DVD ripped on my hard drive I should be able to burn straight to a DVD using EasyCD or something similar right?? Thanks again.

DVD X copy software does everything. Rip and burn back. If you were to try using DVDshrink which is free, it does the ripping and decrypting to HD. Then you will need Roxio, Nero, or Recordnow to burn back to blank. The fact that X copy software does everything within the program is why some like it. Others like Shrink because it gives you options to edit out usless items on the DVD. Its all a matter of choice and what works for you. Download and read the guides for the other programs and you might find a good combination you like. Jerry

I had a backup of a movie I made with DVDXCOPY Xpress and I tried making a backup of it with "Record Now," but I got an error message and it failed. Then I tried making a disk copy with Easy CD Creator Platinum and it made a perfect copy that plays in my stand alone DVD player exactly like the original backup. My original movie was damaged and wouldn't play anymore, so now I have a backup of my backup. Thanks for all the clues and tips.

Hi,
I just bought DVD XCOPY GOLD (includes DVD XCOPY and DVD XCOPY EXPRESS) before Christmas. I have not used the software presently and was searching the web for detail intructions to avoid making coasters when I ran across this site. I would like to make copies of my original DVDs with XCOPY EXPRESS but I do not want the 321 disclaimer or the archive.txt on my backups. How do I get a hold of an older version of XCOPY so that I can use that with EXPRESS to make backup of the original DVD as well as a copy of the backup if needed later. I want to make sure that the menus work on the backup of the backup. I have seen several guides out there to remove the 321 disclaimer. Any recommendation on which is best and easier. Remember I am a newbie. Thanks in advance for your help.

Below is my system I bought in August
HP Pavillion a250y
DVD writer
DVD ROM
Windows XP
Zonealarm & Norton Antivirus ( I know I have to turn these off before using XCOPY)

Hi bigdm, If you intend to do movie only backups with X Copy Express, Then the 321Gone patch I mentioned earlier in this thread will remove the 321studio disclaimer. Download it and click on it during the pause between the rip process and burnback. If you do download an older copy of Express, it will only do the movie anyway.

"HI garzajd, One of the members on here wrote a small program patch for Xcopy express. you click on it during the pause between rip & burn back. It automatically removes the 321 backup screen when doing a movie only backup. It works nice, but I never checked to see if a copy using the patch would recopy. I'll have to try that some day when I have time. Its always fun to try something to beat the system. Jerry"

Jerry746,
Thanks for the reply. I can do without the menu, but I still need an older version of XCOPY to get rid of the archive.txt file.

Herth, go to the forum start page--then the forum title One Click Transcoding tools. Look for a thread called
321GONE. The 1st message written by Psidoc is where the patch is located. He wrote it and had a link to it in the message. Not sure if its still active but try.

If you type 321 Gone in the "Search" field at the top of this forum, it will pull up one choice. That is the original message with the link in it.

Jerry746 where have you been??? lol
Yes the link IS still active and some headway has ben made in the entire disk mode. It now supports Entire Disk single language DVD's. Multi language is giving me headaches though.
All:
Sunday I intend to write in a "watermark" removal patch as well. The inverted commas are because it's basically a log of when and whose licence number that backup was made from. I have never as of yet had any problems copying one of my backups made in XPress. 100% success in Nero6 and Alcohol 120%. If it was really watermarked for copy protection then I personally think I would not be able to do this.
Maybe it's just me!!
Regards,
Psi

HI Psi, How are you? I've been watching your great progress with the Patch. You seem to have some good guys helping with the different problems. I've been tied up with extra things at work. We have a change of ownership happening soon. Nothing will change but the INC. name. But caused us to do a complete inventory of 3 stores and 2 warehouses twice. Once was year end, then again for the purchase change over. I was so much fun the 1st time we did it again LOL!! I don't have to count sheep at night, I see serial numbers flashing by. Keep up the good work, you'll get the multi language licked soon I'm sure.

DVD X Copy is more trouble than its worth, ihave recently started copying DVD's (Week or So Ago) and i have been copying them like crazy. I got myself a copy of DVD X Platinum (New One) and i have used it once. All you will need is Nero, DVD Shrink, Clone DVD, Any DVD. With this combo of software i dont think there is anything that cant be copied. Use DVD Shrink to rip an original over 4.35Gb, then burn with Nero. Use Clone DVD and AnyDVD to copy an original under 4.35Gb. And for already copied DVD's just uxse Nero. Couldnt Be easier!! Oh, and make sure that you read and understand the Guides which are on this website.

Hi
I wanted to know how can anybody track down by DVD if I never give it to anybody who I do not trust? In other words is there anything in the DVDXcopy software which keeps track of which DVDs i have burned and potentially report it without my knowledge?
Thanks a lot
