To do anything loco, you need custom fw.

not necessarily. it's just WAY easier with a custom firmware psp.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

The only loco thing you can do w/ a stock (ofw) psp is throw it at a brick wall or smash it w/ a hammer.

No. UMDs don't work anymore for downgrading. Not at this higher fw, anyway. Despertar_del_cemetario is your only hope.

Because 3.71 sucks...
It's useless.
It can't even go up to level 4 in brightness!!
Like... WTF?
I would just open up my PSP and mess around with it if I did have 3.71.
You can play GBA, SNES, NES and much much more on just ONE game console...
If you have 3.71, and you love your PSP, then just buy 2nd handed games. Buying new games are useless. It's just data on a disc that costs a lot of money.

Well, you can't d/ld the "finished" files b/c it's your memstick that needs to be formatted; not the files you put on it. Certain sections of your memstick are partitioned to save space for what's necessary in the Pandora or Despertar process.

It's really easy. Just look here - and I only suggest this b/c I can't exactly remember how to do it. But I followed this guide and it worked for me. Even tho your PSP may or may not be a slim, (I can't remember at this point) you can still format your memstick the same way. As long as you have your battery ready already, you can just do this and call it the final step. Additionally, you can check the first page for Touran's auto installer for the Magic memstick files.
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=78542
Look there first for how to format your memstick correctly. You can do this no probs, provided you have XP. It's much harder to do on Vista. :( Just look for a mention of mspinst and the other one. (Don't remember its name.)

Yea, you should be all set then. Installing Custom fw is SO easy once you get everything set up correctly. Trust me - I couldn't figure out the formatting part at first, but I didn't give up. I just kept trying and I got it w/ the help of that tut. Believe it or not, that's teh hardest part. After you do that simple 2 min procedure for formatting, you're on it! Go for it. If you want it, go get it! Let nothing stop you. You'll see how easy it is once you do it... :)

Okay, I had the same problem and just fixed it, so maybe I can help. I hardmodded my battery into a Pandora Battery by clipping Pin 5 (and luckily didn't short it out). Anyway, download http://dl.qj.net/TOTALNewbi-easyInstalle...14749/catid/193
This program MUST be run on Windows XP, if you have Vista, it's a horrible pain because you need to install a virtual machine.
Run option 4 (universal unbricker) and follow the steps word for word.
If you did everything right, you should see this message:
>>>> Write MS BOOT CODE
You now have the Magic Memory Stick!
Put your Pandora Battery in the PSP (it should automatically light the green power light. if not, you fried the battery.)
Wait a few seconds, and insert the Magic Memory Stick. If you did everything right, the power, Wi-Fi and MS lights should all come on, and it will pop up a menu. Hit X and it will install 3.71 M33!
Hopefully this helps a little

I actually just pried pin 5 up with a precision screwdriver, and managed to pull it off even though I'm relatively certain that the screwdriver touched pin 6 in the process. Guess I got lucky... I'm pretty certain (from what I've read) that if the green light goes on when you insert the battery (no AC power), then you pulled it off.
What steps are you using to create the MMS, what OS, and where do you get stuck?
