In regards to the 'More Secure Xbox Live' feature, it is just further cleanup of the DMI code on failed boot (non-stealth games), plus a quicker lockdown of video partition when requested to reset to the video partition. "PTP" stands for Parallel Track Path DVD's. It is a rare format (approx 1 out of 50) that is used YOU N00B!

No, it shouldn't matter much. As long as you get a "good" original BIN. In this case you simply hooked it up to a non-master SATA port.

No, it can have more than one region. Make sure that yours is on, or that Region Free is checked.

There are many factors that could contribute to it. Try modding your 360 DVD drive with the firmware that I used. If that doesn't help, then the culprit could be your 360 drive. How old is it? Since you got a new DVD burner and if the problem persists, then it is probably DVD drive in your 360.

The DVD drive says January 2006. I bought the console used from someone. He said that the original laser was replaced. Maybe that's what's causing it. Is it just a matter of swapping it with a new one and just installing it? What is a good xbox 360- compatible DVD drive to get?

It could well be. Still, before jumping into paying for another drive, try the firmware I used. In my case with newer firmware, all my DVDs turned out to be coasters. Only when I flashed with an older firmware version (the one I pointed out before) it started reading all my burned discs -- flawlessly!
As for which drive to replace it with. I haven't done it myself, but I'd assume you will need to buy the exact same kind, or something very close to it. I have Samsung TS-H943 ms25 and although it's not the newest model but I'm happy with it -- it's quite easy to mod it.
You will also need to preserve the drive key (that you got from original back-up). Only if you have it, you'll be able to replace the DVD drive in your 360. Without it, don't even try! You will also need to download a toolbox from Xbins (check forum on replacing drives), then backup original firmware from a new drive (in case you want to restore it), patch your hacked firmware file with an old DVD drive key and flash a new drive with it. It's pretty much the same process, except you'll have to prepare for flashing differently.

Original games play fine. That's what puzzles me.
I have tried flashing my DVD drive with iXtreme 1.2 (fast) previously but it didn't work. Do you think that this old firmware combined with the DVDs burned on the Pioneer 112D will work? I'll try it. Isn't it preferable to read backups at a slower speed?

I had an older Xbox with a samsung drive and made backups of all my games. After I got the 3 red lights I bought a new one and modded the benq drive it had, it works fine for most of my games but 2 games will not work on it (G.O.W. and Dead Rising) that worked on my samsung drive? I usually use either Memorex or Verbatims and theres one of each that won't work in the new Benq Xbox. If anyone has any ideas or quick fixes they would be very appriciated, thanks in advance.

None of my friends have a modded 360. I ordered a new TS-H943A DVD drive. Maybe it's the drive. I do have occassion errors reading originals (i.e. put this disc in an xbox 360 console error).

I just flashed my sammy ms28 with ixtreme 1.3 and it won't play any of my back ups that work on my other 360 that is ms25 ixtreme 1.3. to reflash it do I need to use the 800iso dvd to unlock it?

I bought another TS-H943A MS25 drive off of Ebay and flashed it with the firmware from my original drive. Now I can play backups. Problem solved. I installed iXtreme 1.3 - 12X version.
The only problem I have left is the occassional 3RLOD. I have additional cooling XCM 360 High Speed Cooler with Add-on fan and x-clamp replacement but I still get the 3RLOD. I have to take it apart and reset the camps periodically (sometimes 3 or 4 times a week). I'm not sure if this can be fixed permanently.
