Download DVDFAB PLATINUM 4.0.2.5 Beta from the above link. Use MAIN MOVIE MODE. This program is very user friendly! It almost does everything for you if you have two optical drives. The program has easy to understand, step by step, tutorials. Afterwards, if your still having trouble. I would be glad to walk you through the procedure from beginning to end. We are closed on Christmas.
Just kidding.

Thank you pretherf, i think you have just solved my problem. I chose the burn ISO Image option and its compressed spidey3 to 4.5gb in 6 minutes. The only problem is that its created a WinRAR file, actually thats no probs as I just extracted the files and re-opened them in Shrink... finely Ive backed up my spidey 3 movie, with extras, sub etc...

Thank you pretherf.. and thank you all that have helped me. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

I am running into this same problem with War. I thought it would be better to post here since no one seems to be talking about this problem in the War thread. I see that both prutherf and sweet has figured out how to get around this but being that this is the first time this is happened to me I dont know how to fix it.

1.) Is this becoming a common thing? What is the best way quality wise to get around this.

2.) How do you convert it to an image file and then run the image through shrink agian?

3.) When you talk about burning an iso file you do that under the backup option right?

Thank you for everyones time.

Born2ride,

I can not get far enough to choose the output folder because It wont let me compress the movie to fit a dvd. My screen shot looks like the second set of screen shots you posted (spidy 3 and sc3). The bar is green and red showing that it is to big like your (spidy 3). It is set at auto and the % is grayed out at 99%, if I go to custom I cannot change it because the bar is all the way to the left and it wont let me manually enter the number. I will try and post a screen shot when i get home but it will look almost exaclty like your spdiy 3 shot. How did you fix your issue with spidy 3? I had a couple issues with War from the very begining. Maybe I should try and rerip it I dont know. Thanks for your time.

I'll update and check the main movie tab and let you know. Thanks for your help, i use to do more backing up until the movies quit working with just shrink. I got back into again because i am traveling more for my job and its nice to have the movies on the go so I dont have to worry about messing up the originals. Thanks. I update you as soon as I can.

I just did a movie that I think had same issue. When I opened files in Shrink, I had red space on bar like it would not compress. After looking and not finding out why, I just clicked the back-up button anyway and created an ISO file. When it was done the file was the size it needed to be ( 4300 mb or so ) - I burned that ISO image with imageburn and watched movie ! Hope this helps and if this was is not same problem - sorry

Whether you think you can or you think you cant - either way youre right

Thank you everyone for your help. I dont know what I was doing wrong but i updated dvdfab re-riped it,used fixvts (which shrank it down alittle for some reason) and used shrink which now worked like it should. I am sure i messed up somewhere along the line. Sorry for the inconvience. I do have two more questions though.

1.) when I ran dvd fab it loaded the dvd then It let me rip it, got almost all the way through cam up with an error saying that it needed to use pathplayer to remove some protection. So it reloaded it and reriped it and it was fine. Has this happened to any of you? Is this common?

2.) Can you tell me which audio stream I need to keep in the main there is a ac3 5.1 english @ 338mb
and 4 different ac3 2 ch english all @ 145 MB. Do I need to keep all of them? Do i need to host my screenshot on a site to put it on the forum because I do have a screen shot if you need it.

Thank you agian for everything.

First-time poster, long-time ripper...
I've recently had similar problems with the new DVDfab HD.
3:10 to Yuma, Shoot 'Em Up, War, etc.
For example;
I ran War through DVDFab HD (Full Disc) then tried to run it through DVDShrink (Full Disc) by opening the folder with the movie in it. The warning came up saying it was too big, and it did appear to be too big. At first...
What you need to do is press the Analysis Button after this warning to run a deep analysis first. Don't know why but it worked every time. The movie would analyze then would pop up compressed perfectly.
Then it would backup like normal. It takes about twice as long (the analysis takes as long as the backup does!) but it works!

I ran the same movie, War, through the old-skool set-up of RipIt4Me to FixVTS to DVD Decrypter. Holy Crap! It worked. The files it left for DVDShrink opened just fine. No warnings, no problems, no nothin'. (Too bad this doesn't work too often anymore since RipIt4Me has become out-dated)
This leads me to believe there's something going on with this new DVDFab HD program and not some new encryption hurdle the companies are throwing at us.
Any thoughts?

It's not a problem with dvdFAB.

Only certain people experience problems with the programs... I'm not sure what it is but it's not the actual program. I have NEVER had a problem that DVDFabPlatinum4 couldn't handle.

Take a look around afterdawn for posts about these specific titles/problems... you might get some more insight after reading specific posts... that's why they are started... to help you out. ; )

Also, if you are using fab, why are you using shrink? I highly recommend you GET RID OF SHRINK cuz DVDFabPlatinum4 is all you need (ripping, compressing and burning) for almost ANY disc in one AMAZING program.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

311814175, if that's your real name...
I, as many others, do not have DVDFabPlatinum4. I have the freeware version, DVDFab HD 4.0.5.0 and the freeware DVDShrink 3.2.0.15. Thanks for the ad, though.

I only use the freebie version of DVDFab, and use DVD Shrink too; i have zero issues with movies, unless a brand new movie comes out every once in a while with a strange encryption; then it's a matter of waiting for a Beta update of DVDFab (or AnyDVD if you're into AnyDVD - i'm not); one of these days i might get Platinum, but i'm good for now

And Creaky's not the only one. There's quite a slew of the freeware riders present.

My normal process is DvdFab HD Decrypter, FixVts, Dvd Shrink, ImgBurn. All free.

I'll gladly wait the day or two it takes for new, troublesome encryptions to get cracked, and broken. They're usually on top of it quickly.

nope, Shrink's here to stay, though i don't use it much anymore; for any movies that would result in less than 90% video quality i use DVD Rebuilder with HC encoder, which takes about 35mins to do a movie on a Quad Core Q6600

Thanks for the back-up from my fellow freebie supporters. Go cheapskates!

Still wondering, though, if anybody using the setup of the new DVDFabHD to DVDShrink has any answers concerning my original question;
Why do the files DVDFabHD output sometimes exceed the capacity of DVDShrink to compress?
As I've stated previously I've been able to treat the symptom by running a deep analysis with shrink, thereby taking twice the time, but as of yet haven't been able to diagnose the root cause.

I am not the only one...I've been seeing questions like this popping up about the new DVDFabHD to DVDShrink method on several different threads on this and other sites.

Brainstorm my fellow rippers!

(Sorry, I realize this is kind of off-topic, but I haven't been able to locate another thread that addresses this topic directly. If you know one, point the way...)

Thanks!

I guess I should have been clearer in my post . I still use dvd decrypter , dvd shrink and nero . Anything those programs will not do I use a " go video video clarifier " (best buy) with a set top Sony RDR-HX715 dvd recorder.
The error message that the file is too big in dvd shrink is a common one that I have run into before . I use decrypter to convert the files to a folder. Then I drag and drop the files into an open empty
dvd shrink. Occasionally the dvd shrink will say that the files are too large do you want to shrink any way . Click Yes.

Now when that is finished open another empty instance of dvd shrink and drop the file you just converted into it and convert again. The file should now be the proper size for burning with whatever burning software you use.

You must rename the file if using the same hard drive that you used to decrypt with decrypter. What I usually do is insert a 1 (one) between the drive letter and the movie or file name (C:/my documents/1thewaitress) , that creates a new file instead of trying to overwrite the one you are shrinking ( it will not do that it gives some sort of error message )

I did not even try using decrypter on Spiderman 3 but it does still work on a surprising number of movies , even new ones ( I did "The Waitress" the other day . I learned to solve this problem by trial and error as there was a Led Zepplin DVD boxed set that was too big for shrink with both audio streams enabled.

I hope this helps some folks , and that I have done an adequate job of explaining things.
