Hi Afterdawn,
I have ripped "Spiderman3" and "Stomp the Yard" using dvdfab hd decrytor. But when I open these files in Shrink, they are massive (about 7,000mb). To make things worse, when I disable some options like from the extras, subtitles, audio etc,,, the movie alone is still like 5,000mb. Plz help me!!!

I compress 7 gigs or more all the time with Shrink. How do you mean it won't compress - Are you getting an error message ? Does Shrink say file is too large ? I think we need a little more info

Agree with crab56, we need more info. I compress files that large all the time, that is the purpose of DvdShrink. So fill us in a little more and we should be able to help out.

Yes the files are too large all i want to do is compress the main movie with subs, I select custom ratio, but the slider is already at the beginning, which means i cant slide to lower the quality....I hope u know what I mean now.... I mean couldnt I just compress the full 7gb into 4.5gb.

Moving that slider does not change quality - you click backup and then select Quality tab
OK - You have Shrink open, you have clicked on open files and selected file on hard drive. Now you should have the DVD structure in front of you with a green bar at top and also a box that gives you the compression ratio. What is the number of MB at far right of green bar ? what is compression ratio ? For instance, I have a file open right now - it is 7.81 gigs and Shrink is set to output at 4300 MB which would compress it 44.4 %. It's working on right now with no issue.

Just re-read your last post - Why select " Custom Ratio " ? Just select " Automatic " . if bar at top is green just click BackUp. if need be UN Select some subpicture languages and unneeded audio tracks or use re-author button and shrink only the main title. if you pick only main title some movies have Full Screen AND Wide Screen in there so pick corrct one.

Exactly what size is the movie folder ? And look at the far right at top of green bar - what is that number ? In born2ride's pic it is 4,464 mb - that's the target size of the output ISO file ?
Also what message do you get if you click on "Backup !" button ?

Look at picture born2ride posted. Under compression settings tab where it says "Video" - What do have in the drop down box where his picture says " Automatic "?
Your 6,738 MB sounds like you have no compression selected.

I have automatic selected, and its saying the compression is at 98.8%, but I cant select the slider to decrease the ratio. It seems to be fixed at 98.8%...... I mean where have I gone wrong. Let me fill you guys in from the beggining....
1) I ripped Spiderman 3 using DVDFAB HD Decryptor, just using default options.
2) So now when I open my files in Shrink, it says its 7.6gb, wont burn to disc coz the files huge!!!
3) Im trying to compress the main movie, but there seems to be no option. Everthing is default, compression is AUTOMATIC. It will not let me compress anything!!!
Normally I rip with shrink and burn with shrink, which is fine....
Continue helping me please people, i really appreciate it...

As Xplorer4 said, a screenshot might help here. Have you tried doing a deep analysis? Have you taken out all the junk, subtitles, foreign languages, etc?

Ok. You have Spidey 3 in a folder - 7.6 gigs. Next you open Shrink and click on " Open Files ". You find and select the Spidey folder and click OK. Now what I think your are saying is now Spidey is too large to compress - if this is the case do you know how to Re-author the DVD ? Click " Re-author " button and on next screen drag the " Main Movie " file to the left under re-authored DVD. NOW click on " Backup ! ". Does this do it

P.S. - You don't need to move the slider - it is grayed out under automatic. It only moves when you select custom. And a 98.8% compression is good - it means it is only shrinking a few %. I think Shrink will work to like 40 %. Also select Edit > Preferences and what is the Target DVD Size ?

Go to search bar at top of this forum and type in " how to post a screen shot " follow instructions. I really would like to see what it's doing. I'll have spidey 3 on x-mas day and the first thing I'll be doing is backing it up.

Your picture did not make it to the post but I went to Image shack and found it. Now I see what you mean. Shrink does not want to compress the movie. I really would like to know what the target size is set at in Edit > Preferences > TARGET SIZE . Please tell us what version of DVD Fab you are using. I had problems with a version a few weeks ago.

PLEASE - update DVD Fab to this version at
http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
Either version 4.0.1.2 which I am using now. there is also the 4.0.2.5 beta on that page you can try. I would completely un-install that old version and start fresh with the new one. Delete that Spidey 3 file and RE-RIP the disc. Open Shrink and try again. If this does not do it then I'll find out what's up on x-mas when the kids get a new Spidey 3 DVD. First thing I'll do is back it up. Let us know
