I am not sure if it depends on the blu-ray content being viewed. I did notice that Bridge to Terabithia uses the AVC codec where Ultravoilet uses mpeg2. I have also updated to firmware 2.10 so I don't know if that has some updated decoder software or not. I do know it has added the DivX decoder with Full HD profile support too! That makes me very happy!
Ryu77 i'm pretty sure that 46" Full HD Sharp Aquos is putting out a lot of heat like my Sony 46 XBR3.Try to keep your room temperature cool because if its not & trust me with that LCD putting out heat on top on the PS3 also its going to make you Fan come on.I have a Launch PS3 & it took me a while to learn this but if the room is vented & cooled then this should help your issue with the fan.

Ultravoilet was on of the more horrible BD encoded in fact the launched BD releases wasn't that good & Blu-Ray caught alot of heat for that issue but it has been fixed.I alway go to Hi def digest to check reviews on BD before i buy them you should check out this site it has help me choose on some great encoded BD titles.

Thank you. You could be right. I am not trying to take away from your thoughts as you're only trying to help... It does put out some heat but not that much. I also have the PS3 positioned in a way that is very open and shouldn't get any heat from the TV. Also, just to give you an idea of how thorough I test things... I let a movie run without the LCD TV on and the same thing happened with the fan.

Thank you very much for the link... But why does it sound like my TV needs calibration? It has a perfect picture. I am quite competent with the calibration controls of my TV. Everything I've posted has made it very clear that I have cross referenced with other players on the same TV. Also as Oner said I also made it clear that this was only my opinion and as such is open to individual interpretation.

You're right. Thank you very much. I was trying to choose my words carefully. I guess pride just kicked in. I paid a lot for my set-up and I have spent much time learning as much as I can about home theater and gaming etc.

Thank you for your kind offerings... :-D

ATTENTION!

Anyone with a fan that they would consider loud should read on...

I bought a PS3 on the 27/12/07 and took it home only to find it had a loud fan. After contacting Sony, they authorized an exchange. So on 28/12/07 I took it back to JB Hi-Fi and got another one. After taking the new PS3 home, I found the SAME THING was happening... Can you believe that?

So at this point I was starting to wonder if it was me. I had read on many forums (including this one) that some say they have a loud fan while others say their PS3 is very quiet.

Anyway I contacted Sony and they authorized another exchange... Only this time JB Hi-Fi wanted to test it. So while I waited an hour in the store for the fan to kick in, it hadn't done so yet. So at this point I was feeling guilty for taking up so much of their time so I decided to admit defeat. JB Hi-Fi then said they are under no obligation to exchange it. Even though I showed him a video I recorded with the fan being loud and he even said that isn't normal. I knew deep inside that I should have waited longer as the time for the loud fan to kick in varied from 30 to 90 minutes.

Anyway, I took the unit home. Everytime I played a game or watched a movie, without fail the fan would kick in at an annoying loud level. So I asked myself am I crazy or is this unacceptable? Is this what everyone else accepts from Sony? My answer was NO!. So after further investigation on many forums I came to the conclusion that it wasn't normal. So I contacted Sony again and they said I should send my PS3 to them. I said that is not acceptable for a 1 week old unit. They then said I should call JB Hi-Fi and talk to the manager. That is exactly what I did. This time I had to be firm. I was still friendly but I made it very clear that I am fully aware of my consumer rights. So.... I finally got my third PS3!

I have it home now and it has been on for about 6 hours and barely a whisper. It is so quiet! I even turned off my air con and it is quite a warm day here. So anyone with a loud fan... It is not normal! Do not accept it! You should contact Sony and get an exchange. It took me 3 units to get a good one.
