Owners of the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) console can enjoy rumble technology now with the DualShock 3 controller announced at the Tokyo Game Show last year and released in Japan on November 11th. Scheduled for release in the United States on April 15th, the DualShock 3 is arriving at some stores already who have permission to sell the item immediately after receiving it.

The Dualshock3 is an improvement in my opinion vs. the Sixaxis. I like the slightly heavier feel and I will probably hang on to my older sixaxis controllers. Also, you can disable the rumble feature if it bothers you in a certain game or whatever... the only difference will be that it will feel slightly heavier.
Quote: As far as it taking a while, Sony didn't do it originally because of the battery drain to have the rumble effect, so it took a while to figure out how to implement it so that the controller doesn't have to be recharged every 30-45 mins. Would those upset about that rather have waiting for Sony to wait another year or so to release the PS3 just for the rumble?
.. I'm not sure where you got that particular info man... If you wikipedia Dualshock 3 you will get all the info on a the lawsuit that was the reason for the delay in development of the Dualshock 3. To summarize this lawsuit, it was Sony AND Microsoft vs. Immerson Technologies. This company developed the "spinning weights" used to create the vibration in controllers and thus had the patent. Microsoft decided to settle out of court, which is a euphemism for "pay them off" instead of facing a legal battle. Sony fought it and began developing the sixaxis technology as another avenue for gaming, hoping that they could still deliver another sensory technology in their console titles. This ended up costing them 82 million dollars and a suspension of the rumble feature in all products (PS1 and PS2 were also affected). This all went down in 2002, before either the 360 or the ps3 exsisted as we know them today. Microsoft was hell bent on producing their system first, and thus they decided to opt out of a lengthy court battle.. and I must admit that this probably saved them some serious money and hassle despite the other side effects of rushing the console.

I wasn't aware of a battery issue being the reason for the delay, I'd love to see where you got that info if I am incorrect.

Yes, but he glorified every console except the PS3. Please remember, this is a PS3 news thread.
i dont think he bashed the ps3 at all he made some points that did not go in the mighty ps3 favor and some people cant handle that.i think the current ps3 controller feels cheap and fragile just my opinion though ds3 will be a big improvement.and just because i dont get on my knees and praise the sony name dont mean i dislike them either.

These are his comments that sounded a little Fan Boyish to me...
Quote: "I have no reason to buy a PS3, not now or prob ever"
Quote: "PS3 is gathering dust for the most part and that's just that."
I don't think this is true at all and I know there are many others that would agree with me.
As for your thoughts on the sixaxis controller, that is your opinion which you are completely entitled to. I don't think that the sixaxis control feels cheap. It's just light because it doesn't have a rumble pack inside. Anyone remember the weight difference of the Nintendo 64 controller with and without the rumble pack cartridge?... There was a big difference.
You know what is completely amazing, is that I never post on XBox or Nintendo threads looking to say negative things. However, I have lost count of how many PS3 threads I have dealt with these sort of comments. I guess that's why the term Fan Boy exists and not Fan Man... Because a mature person has better things to talk about.

I am confused. You did say it feels cheap. This is from your previous post...

To which I responded with this...

It's all good. You are completely entitled to your opinion as is ceno82. I still have my opinion on the PS3, which is all positive. It would just be nicer to see a news thread that isn't bombarded with criticism.

lol well truthfully my PS3 is collecting dust, but im playing the heck out of it. Im just about always on it, its just a lil dusty. As for the sixaxis vs DS3 when i first used the 6xs i did notice how light it was. I also dont like how when i put it on my bed it falls over. There is nothing to support the L2 and R2 buttons. Rumble doesnt matter to me anymore, if this was 3 years ago I would want rumble bcuz it seemed lame without it but now its not fun to me. Im just going to buy another 6xs before they run out. Also if they discontinue the 6xs how will you play games like heavenly sword which require you to use it? Thats my biggest question.

Yep! Ryu is right. My Dualshock 3 senses motion just the same.. I like that the added weight makes me feel how much I tilt in comparison to the ligher sixaxis!
