the xclamps were a itch to take off. but after a few tools, needlenose pliers work wonders. grab one end, and gently wiggle it loose. popped off both xclamps within a few minutes.
the thermal grease was a mess. crapload of white thermal grease all over the dies. i'm guessing MS employees know nothing about components.

Update:
I finally got a chance to fully test it. The room temperature is 80 degrees humidity 64%. aka Damn hot. Played 10min of ET QW and 30min of GuitarH 3 everything is fine. GREEN. If it doesn't RROD in this enviroment i don't know how it's ever gonna go RROD again. Let's just say let's hope not.

did you just do the xclamp mod and talismoon fan swap? because if it's surviving after those two in place, any other mods should cool down the system further.

yeap just those 2 mods/fix and it's backup running. i will do the 6 fan cooling mod next week when all parts arrive.
I added an additonal 50mm fan to the plan. it will be attached to cpu heasink blowing air into the talismoon. This way 50mm blow, talismoon suck= cpu very happy... LOL

now the only problem is the gpu heatsink. due to the slim profile and the dvd drive on top of it, not much air can pass through. the fanshroud mod is the only thing i can think of that can help airflow for it. unless it's possible to make an air duct that come from the 120mm intake to blow directly into the gpu heatsink.

i was thinking a slim case fan on top of the heatsink, but that would mean the dvd drive wouldn't sit flush when in place. i think a duct is probably best.
first, you should do your initial 6 fan upgrade. if the gpu is still getting hot, a 7th fan and a duct should be added.
LINK to newegg case fans. only a few are 10mm thick, and there are a good amount of 15mm thick.

I need help on airflow:
In terms of airflow, is it better to have more airflow in or more exhaust?
I would have 1 intake fan doing 80CFM, and 3 addition exhuasts doing 72CFM total, but then there are the Talismoons doing more exhaust probabaly around 50CFM. Total exhaust would be around 120CFM, so I would have more exhaust than intake.
But a problem I see is the additional 3 exhaust fans are taking up the right side panel where it served as passive intake previously. So now there is little passive intake.
Suggestions?

i remember somewhere in the pc section that it's possible to disrupt the natural airflow with additional fans in improper places. and with the natural airflow disrupted, cooling won't work as well than before.
try asking in the pc section, as they are very knowledgeable in cooling.

I believe having that much exhaust vs. intake could be compared to the radiator fan in your car. If you're driving slow, the fan works. But once you go over 30 mph the fan serves no purpose as the natural airflow is greater than the fan.
With as much exhaust as you're planning on, that intake won't serve any purpose.
You could also make your hdd internal and that would open up the hdd side for more airflow.

Yeah I was thinking having more exhaust that intake is better than the other way around. I'll look into it more and report my findings.
Well, A lot of parts have arrived today, Those are some quailty aluminum block fans, very heavy, but they are the best looking for outside mount!:
Fans, Fans, Fans, Grills, Bling, and 12V 5A ACDC Brick, heatsink, filter wires...
From Mouser, a Guarded push button switch, and a 5.5/2.5 DC jack:
Sill waiting on a LCD Temp sensor and another button, and more heatsinks and a surpise...

Oh yeah those are some hot fans, but I really like the original xbox360 case, the after market ones are so cheap looking, and costs so much.
Confirm me on some basic electrics: The standard red wire is postive and the black is negative? Correct?

More Parts arrived today: heatsinks, more fans, cables,...
and a 6 fan power strip, pretty cool, my original plan was to use 6 spliters, but that would be a bundle of wire. instead for $12 I bought this. Took of the case so i can just attach pcb right on to case. But again this has worthless leds.
A ton of crap, but still waiting for 2 more fans and more. Should all be here next week and I can get going!

looks like christmas. boxes opened, packing paper scattered.
sidenote: just played gta4 for an hour earlier, and the weather is in the 90s(F). inside the house temps is probably in the 70s. the right side (aka top) was completely cool, and the left (aka bottom) was warm, especially under the heatsinks. suprisingly, the stock deltas weren't running at full blast but they were expelling a good amount warm/hot air out.

Homesick, That's a legit setup. did you put the cpu heatsink the wrong way on purpose? I changed my mind about the sticker, I thought: since i'm ripping up the case, what good will a sticker do? lol
The total will probably be around $150, which is well under water cooling. That usually runs $250 for everything. I have more plans to add even more fans, but I'm going to keep that under wraps until I'm ready to reveal it. Hint: 3 more fans on top of 6 additional, and of course 2 stock Talismoons... Basically it's going to be the xbox with the most fans in the world period.

air is suppose to pass through the fins of the heatsink, and the fanshroud is suppose to keep the air inside, so the exhaust fans can remove the air. with the cpu heatsink sideways, you're allowing it to heat up more, and only one side is getting cooled.
put the heatsink back to normal position. the desk fan will blow cool air directly into the fins, instead of the side of it.
