overall i like it but i am a fan of mods in general and i just got done reading the huge and a fan standoff fanmod thread over at xscene. probably could have used 1-2 less fans with just as much efficiency but it doesnt hurt. Must be a pain to reflash tho with all that wiring everywhere
if it's too loud, you can do what the silent pc enthusiast do; control the fanspeed. probably have to add resistors to each fan, but just enough that there's proper airflow.
oh what did you use to cut the metal casing. I cut out the rear mesh on one of mine using a dremel and it took a while. was super loud in my apt lol so i went out on my balcony with 4 inches of snow in freezing cold to finish. then i decided to cut out the square under the xclamps and that took way longer.

@stealth... (where's all the snow? east coast?)I cut the mesh at the rear near the fans with standard snips (i.e. wire cutters, diagonal cutters). I clip each one at a time takes bout' 2 minuts. Removing larger sections of the case botton I use a jigsaw with a "fine/metal" blade. First I drill a 3/8" hole then insert the jigsaw blade and away it goes. I clamp the metal case to my table first cuz sometimes when the jigsaw gets dull it vibrates the hell out of the case. Dremel would take forever and keep burning up those little tiny cutting discs.Goodluck!

@BurningGas.... nice to see it still rocking!!!!
Snow in memphis. we get like 2 snowfalls a year and this was the largest i have seen i think in 6 years, which is nothing to me since i grew up in appalacian mountains with numerous snowfalls a year over 10 inches or so.
I could imagine a jigsaw would rip the case right out of your hands if not carefull. The dremel did go thru quite a few discs on that one case. I might try to find a high quality durable cutting wheel next time or just use a different method altogether. But it did pay off as that box had rrod once and i fixed with xclamp and it lasted 3 months of my nephew playing cod4 like 5 hours a day. 2nd rrod redoing xclamps didnt last more than an hour. But after cutting the mesh and the removing the shield inside the case along with gridning the standoffs down slightly, and penny trick with a 20 minute overheat session and lots of pressure applied it has been working great for almost 3 weeks now and he plays just as much as before.
I have been thinking of adding fans similar to what Burningas has done here. I have smaller fans tho, one from a video card heatsink and some basic ones from pc. I have salvaged some standoffs from old pc so i might have a go at that.
Burningas did you add a standoff to the board in your 360? The older ones are the only with the standoff location there i think.
i have a launch system that still plays great, about 2 to 4 hours a day 6 to 8 hours on weekends. only difference is i didnt have to screw around with mine, just played it as is.
i think i would have saved my $$$ that was spent on the fans and bought another xbox when or if it red ringed...cause that crap on it makes one ugly arse xbox!!!!!!
