Something funny is going on with your system. When I click on the link in dialysis's signature it takes me straight to the ImgBurn website. I am running Firefox as well, you will be hard pressed to find anyone running Internet Explorer on a regular basis here. Have you checked your system for Spyware and Adware, it sounds like something is hijacking your browser.

Well, thanks everyone, I finally got the right download. Silly me, thinking that a big download box smack in the middle of the discussion of a program might be the download for the program.
The bad news: I downloaded it, installed it, and ran it. Near the end of the burn process, a box opened up that said "unable to close disc". When I clicked for more info, it said this was not uncommon in slimline notebook burners. So after days of confusion and struggling to properly make and close a dvd, it turns out I can't anyway.
Call me crazy, but I might as well go back to burning the files as data, the way I was doing before, right? They play in my DVD player. What % of dvd players will they work in?

Just passing thru.. I agree re notebook burners not being up to much, though i (touch wood) have had my laptop & it's burner for 3 years now, the burner has been/still is (ab)used for huge amounts of burning and ripping. I'm just lucky and fully expected mine to die within a year, they're just so flimsy etc.
However i've never once had problems burning with it or ever seeing a message re closing discs - you must be using the wrong setting or your burner is possibly faulty....
I concur with the 4300MB setting which i stuck to for the longest time, though now i use 4400MB on all my burners/programs.

I'm so bummed......
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check and see what size it is, in case I did it wrong, but as a matter of fact, I usually even set them for a hair smaller than 4300. I can try smaller, just to test it, but when I followed the message that came up in the process, it said it's not unusual for the notebook drives to not be able to close them. Mine is an NEC ND-6650A. I'll experiment, just in case, and keep you posted as to solutions.

That drive should be more than capable of doing the job in hand. It's a d/l burner.. what other burning software do you have installed?.. I'm thinking some roxio or incd type packet writing software.

I think perhaps you are mistaken, but how would I verify that? There is nothing in any documentation that indicates DL. The current version may be DL, but mine is several years old. On the dell website (my systems) it is listed thus:
UD037 MOD,DVD+/-RW,NEC,INSP,STB
However, this doesn't change the fact that it couldn't close the disc.

MY BAD!!!!!
I mis-typed the drive model number. It's actually NEC ND-6050A. Sorry- my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.....

new info
I take it back, it wasn't my eyes. ND-6050A was the part number of the original configuration, but in the middle of this problem, I installed a firmware update (hoping it might be the problem) and the number changed, to ND-6650A, but I didn't realize it. I had noted the original number.

I forgot to answer your question- I have only Imgburn and Sonic (rudimentary OEM) The Sonic has a 'close disc' command too, and it doesn't work there, either- it keeps telling me to put in an appendable disc, as I recall.....
