Hi. I'm an XCopy Mod (sort of). Your link doesn't help anything, Oriphus.

"For DVD Back up info:"

http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.media?sid=9388&m=5&url=http%3A//www.chrismccann.co.uk/
http://www.dvd-backup.tk

It's just another of many competitors to A/D. Don't need it. Can't see a whole lot there that I can't find here anyway. Or Doom9's. Or DVD-Digest. Or ..... Not that I looked hard, because the site you linked to is so full of FRAMES, it turned me off completely.

There will always be backup sites.

Was there any particular reason you directed this specific site to the XCopy Mods? We are all more than aware of the alternatives (all of 'em) to XCopy products.

Um...im not sure i follow you at all. To address the first one, the quotation you have was in reply to this:
Quote:
Nah... a mod is a mod is a mod (unless things change) but naturally some mods will stick to certain topics rather than others
I was giving an example of someone who sticks to certain topics, like a DVDXCopy Moderator - who generally sticks to DVDXCopy. Or the modes who stick around the PS2 forums mostly...

Im not sure what you thought i was linking to? The website in my signature is my website where i make simple user guides and media tests and a few other things to help people get into DVD Back-up. I wasnt supplying it as a link in any relation to this thread, its always in all my threads. Im also not trying to compete with A/D, in fact, most things link back to A/D through that site, such as the forums link.

To finsish up i wasnt aware i had directed any mods to the site - its mainly used for newbies. i understand the frame issue with it and im going to work on that to solve it. It is quite annoying. im thinking of learning Macromedia for websites (i know director).

Thanks
*A confused Chris*

Dear Confused Chris,

(I'm terribly sorry, big fella). It may be indeed that I skimmed over your message in too much haste.

The message of yours which I replied to was ultra short, and I just (somehow) took it that you were pointedly suggesting to the DVDXCopy Mods in particular that we should check out the link (didn't realize it was your own site) for important info we (might) never be able to find elsewhere.

Did not in any way mean to detract from the work you have done. (Terribly sorry).

But Chris....... (oh yeah)...... just my .02c worth - I really really really hate multiple frames. Notice how this site avoided them with the new layout? Even the old layout never had 'em. Many of us, like me, are stuck with dialup modems, and frame piled on top of frame, aside from cluttering up the screen, take much longer to load.

Simple is always best. (*Whatever* possessed you, Oriphus ??? ) <gg>

Having said that, I believe I owe your site another visit.

lol - no worries big man, i new it must have been a mix-up :-)

Yeah, the frames are a hassle. Thank God i formatted my computer and forgot to save the webfiles, meaning ill have to start over by downloading from internet lol. Im considering attempting it in Macromedia MX Studio, but more likely it will be another Frontpage set-up as i havent a clue about Macromedia (Except Director).

Im going to add a whole Home Cinema Set-up to the website, explaining a lot about various aspects of that.

Hows the DVD-A going, you a converted man? (Get rid of that SACD lol)

Being a mod requires insane amounts of time and normally people who have Sr. Member or AfterDawn Addict status have sorta proven over the years that they're willing to contribute the required time from their spare time to the forums. And also, we sorta "know" the most senior members of our forums, which eases the task of evaluating who we will promote and for what purpose. Nowadays our mod promotions are based purely on forum needs -- i.e. if one forum room requires a mod desperately and some senior member is active on that forum (not just active, but typically helpful and relatively objective with his -- yes, always his, we don't have any female mods yet -- views/opinions) he has strong chance to get promoted.

But mostly the promotions are based on recommendations from existing mods (to be perfectly honest, I have absolutely no way of knowing what the heck is going on in the forums nowadays -- we get >1100 posts a day to our forums, including Finnish, English and DXC forums -- and I rely on mods to let me know about the situation). And of course they recommend people they know and trust, etc.. So far I've been extremely happy with the mods we've chosen, but obviously sometimes mods need to have this fancy so-called "real life" as well, and they tend to "retire" at some stage for longer periods, which opens a need for new mods as well.

I guess if I put on a pair of nylons and a wig before I logged in, it wouldn't be quite the same thing, huh?

(Maybe no one would notice).

dRD, if you're still there.....

Any immediate (or longer-term) plans for the DXC forum?

Ireland and I were gabbing on the telephone tonight, and we were both sorta wondering, you know. Thnx.

Klingy: There are no plans to modify the DXC forums as of now, even though they're sorta dying slowly. What ideas you've got for them (can move to mod forums or PM if you wish to)? The amount of information is still valuable that exists in the DXC forums, so it would be sad to close it down -- but moving the forums to the "main forums" would also be bit complicated as it would shift the balance of the main forums quite dramatically.

Guess what I paid attention and did what I was told!!! Even after I had done quite a few of them already. I even rephrased my questions to make sure I do not ask a repeated question! (That I could find anyway) The mods know what they are doing! I support you, keep up the good work!

Into each life, a little rain must fall. (Source Unknown)

Into my life, 'falls' gentle Ginia. (Hi, Ginia!)
Quote:
Guess what? I paid attention and did what I was told!"
You are a rare and beautiful gem. Mostly, falling into our laps we get people who don't pay attention to anybody, anywhere, anytime, for any reason whatsoever. And that's if we're lucky. And then, it goes downhill from there. :-)
Quote:
The mods know what they are doing!
Yep - they are a remarkably capable and good-willed group, 'tis true. And very hardy. I know some of them; I have chatted with a few more of them; I am sometimes one of them every 8 months or so; and I pretend to know the rest of them whenever I can get away with it.

Briefly recapping: "I paid attention and did what I was told!".

Atta girl! Therefore, I hereby direct....(er).... {request?, beg?} for your pretty hand in marriage. (OK?) Don't forget, Ginia, being a bonafide A/D Mod's missus brings with it tangible benefits:

* Free software which you would otherwise have to pay an arm and a leg for.

* Free software "cracks", fixes and workarounds that we don't generally offer to the general public.

* Millions and millions of dollars.

* Oodles and oodles of secret stuff, which I cannot disclose at this time.

* Lifelong adoration, committment, and undying gratitude.

I suppose what I'm saying, is that we don't get nearly enough gorgeous goils in here! 'Specially ones that follow even half of the rules that everyone else either ignores or 'forgets'.
Quote:
I support you, keep up the good work!
Oh! Oh! (Be still, my beating heart!) Gorsh, I am all _a-flutter_!

Okie doke, then I will consider it a "done deal", Ginia. We shall be "ONE" by this time next Thursday. Should you be presently encumbered by any other significant 'other-halfs', we offer a quickie-anullment thread, whereby you can (conviently) become, magically, (overnight, really) 'free' of any current marital obligations, and then we can begin our wonderful and joyous life's journey together.

(Or we could just go on a date first, or something, if you think that would be better).

WELCOME to AfterDawn, Ginia!

I am most frightfully sorry, Praetor - what you say is likely true.

I belong to that rare species, nearly-extinct, known as "SkunkUS Absentee-US DissappearUS". We can only be spotted during the fourth quarter of any second Tuesday during a partial eclipse of Pluto's fifth moon. Various "sightings" have been reported elsewhere, but the true identity of the grainy photograps subsequently submitted to NASA cannot be adequately confirmed by experts.

Fossil remains of our genus have been occassionally unearthed by Scientific Anthropologists, but DNA sampling has proven inconclusive.

Being a reclusive breed of Klingon by nature, we seldom appear during the day, preferring to hang out in dark caves, although it has been noted that the consumption of alcoholic liquids will frequently cause one or more of our ilk to resurface on the internet boards, if only in the most fleeting of manner.

My apologies to all.

Recently, upon learning that once upon a time, during the third Centurion flux and during the short destabilization of the space-time continuum that followed, a piercing bright blue-white Zion light exploded from the Dogcrap 9 Nebula and illuminated those dark, almost impenetrable caves causing the awaking of those ancient, almost extinct race we know as the Klingons to rise long enough to bestow upon mankind those long hoped for treasures - ?

Soon after, when the Dylithimum crystals were completely destroyed in their attempt to stabilize the rift between the Psyco-Universe and the Anti-Psyco Universe a truly dark vale fell over the Epsilon quadrant and the Klingons once again were forced to retreated back into the depths of their dark abode -

(Huuuuuuummmmm, thinkin if that should happen again, that maybe it would be worth putting on that Girlie wig and Blouse after all ? them ?goodies? sound gooooood :-)

.>>>>>> . . . . . . . . Denoting the passage of time. . . . . . . . .>>>>>>

(That kissin? Klingon stuff might well be a deal breaker though. Mayhaps it may require a bit more pondering -)

Hmm!

And I thought some of the threads I haunted digressed from original intent to far-out scenarios. And as the alarms ring out into the night, I will turn and silently morph into the shadows, and into the background, and while carefully covering my trail flee to safety.

Though perhaps too heavily veiled, it was my attempt to say I would like to be a Mod also BUT that kissing a Klingon might be too high a price to pay to get there - lol

Yeah, good call, Pete. I mean, just take a look at Lieutenant Worf on ST-TNG, -- if you wasn't a goil, would *you* wanna kiss that face? (Even if you *was* a goil, I would have second thoughts). Even so, I feel it only fair to warn you that kissing a Klingon could easily trigger his/her rather .... (umm).... "unorthodox" mating rituals - not something for the faint of heart, especially if he/she has been out on Space Duty conquering planets for 6 months or so without romantic interlude.

IOW, romancing a Klingon on Shore Leave is like unleashing the entire US Navy fleet on a small town in Iowa. (Good luck to Iowa).

High price, methinks, for Mod Priveledges, but I DO admire your courage and committment. We admire that sort of independant thinking and offer limited positions in the most Honorable Society Of Klingon Associate Mods. <SOKAM> Your duties would be light at first (you wouldn't have to kill anyone right away, for example, for double-posting or posting in the wrong thread. Simple maiming is usually sufficient in such cases). All Associate Mods get to share in the booty and spoils of our vanquished planets.

Honor and discretion is assured.

However, if you like, my colleague, GRILKA isn't doing anything this weekend,

.... and if you are willing to do more than just hold-hands-on-the-first-date, I could probably "fix you up". Don't get her too gooned up on blood wine though - I think she ate the last 2 Associate Mods, (we are still looking for them, anyway).

Welcome to the FAM, ScubaPete! KAPLATT!
