Good but you'll have to find out what version of Netgear, there are many. Sounds like a router though. If it is, it's probably changing ip addresses on you and it hit the right one to show you green. It will also affect your speeds if it is a router and not port forwarded. This site shows a lot: http://www.portforward.com/english/route...routerindex.htm just for info. Go to start>run, type in cmd and hit ok. Now in the black box (Command Prompt), type in ipconfig/all and hit enter and make a note of your Default Gateway and exit. That will be your router, type that in the address bar of IE and see if it accesses anything. That site above (Port Forward) should show your version and how to access it but you really need to know which one. Wherever you found that is a Netgear should show what model it is right after the name. If you have to you can go through all the Netgears at Port Forward to find yours or one like it but there are a lot, at least there should only be a few access addresses there for all the Netgears. It can be done but it's a lot of work. I know because I had to find a D-Link like mine, which wasn't listed, there. Much, much better to find the model. Hope this all makes sense.

This is a real shot in the dark but see if the info for this model get's you anywhere: http://www.portforward.com/english/route...GT/Utorrent.htm All you need for now is the router ip address to enter in IE (it has to be IE or something), 192.168.0.1 (is that the same as the Default Gateway in Command Prompt, if not, try with it), username and password- admin and password. You'll need a static ip to keep it from changing later but that's no big deal, quite easy actually.

Well, that was a lucky guess on my end. You need to set a static address so your router can't change it. Just follow this guide: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Basically, all you do is go back into Command Prompt, note your ip address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server (s). The only thing there to be careful of is if the Default Gateway and DNS Server show the same, you can't use that DNS Server then. Your router will show the proper ones or there are a couple you can use at OpenDNS. You just enter the info you noted at Network Connections (Control Panel) in Internet Protocol. There may be a couple of connections there but only one is your internet and the guide tells you how to find it. Then just follow the guide for the router forwarding. Where it says don't skip this for the static address, you can skip it. In utorrent, disable randomize port at options>preferences>connection or utorrent will set a new one each time you start it, making forwarding useless. You can use any port over 10,000 that isn't the default, I used 34450 so I know it works. Make sure the ip address/es and port are typed correctly everywhere, it's not hard to make a mistake.

It is a little confusing, where are you lost. Set your static address and then follow the directions for forwarding your router using the port I mentioned, The last step mentions Virtual Server, that isn't in utorrent but your router. Should see it after you hit Apply for the firewall rules, I think. Not sure on TCP and UDP, set them both for now. At first, my router needed both and now only TCP. Edit: i forgot about utorrent, set your port there, uncheck randomize port and while you're there, check that UPnP is disabled and Protocol Encryption is used.

We'll cover it all. First utorrent. Open utorrent and go to options>preferences>connection. There you can set your port to 34450, disable UPnP and disable randomize port. In options>preferences>bittorrent, set your Protocol Encryption as that link I gave shows. Make sure your upload speed at options> speed guide>connection type is set closest to yours, up or down. Now exit utorrent. Here's that link for Protocol Encryption again but shouldn't matter anyway, you had a green light before ever using it: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395674

Now, a static address. If XP, go to start, run, type in cmd and hit ok. A black box should appear, that's Command Prompt. I think it's at start>programs>accessories or something in Vista. Type in ipconfig/all and hit enter. A lot of information should appear, write down your ip address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server (s, there may be one or two). If the Default Gateway and DNS Server show the same address, you can't use the DNS Server, I'll give you some you can from Open DNS. Now exit Command Prompt and go to start>control panel>network connections. If there is more than one entry there, you'll have to see which is your internet (I have three). Right click on one at a time and disable it, the one that stops you from accessing the internet is the one you want. Don't forget to enable again. Open that one and select properties and then internet protocol (tcp/ip)and properties, uncheck obtain address automatically and check use this address entering the info you got at Command Prompt. If your Default Gateway and DNS Server were the same there, use these : 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 From Open DNS and perfectly safe-you can get yours in your router later and if you only have one to enter from Command PRompt, that's fine. Close out and check that things are fine at ipconfig/all in Command Prompt, it's not hard to type a number incorrectly, I do it all the time. And that's your static address and port to use in your router.

I can't help you much with your router from here. Just read the instructions over until you feel more comfortable with them, make a note of any changes you make in case you have to change it back (that goes for any program anyone isn't familar with and fire away with any questions you may have. You can always reset to original specs too but I don't like doing that. Not very common but I lose the internet and have to reinstall my internet connection.

Those numbers I gave weren't for the Default Gateway or Subnet Mask but for the DNS Servers if your DNS Server and Default Gateway were the same in Command Prompt, whatever you do, don't mix up what you wrote from ipconfig/all or at Network Connections, double check everything you do. Use your DNS if you can and the info you need is at ipconfig/all in Command Prompt. When you enter the info at the Network Connection, it shows what each is for.

Go back into Commnand Prompt (ipconfig/all) and check your ip address is ok and the one you used in the router. Also, your router configuraton again. I'm curious, what do you see in a port check in options>speed guide in utorrent? Make sure the port checked was the one forwarded. If you can, connect your computer directly to the box connected to your internet connection coming from the wall and don't use the router for this (unless that's a modem/router combo, there won't be another box and you can't). Should be green then. Also, don't know what help this is and it's repetitive but see if anything in this jpg helps: http://www.plucky.org/component/option,c...le,torrent.jpg/

Your light is green, had me worried. Once you've set your upload at Speed Guide in utorrent, you're good to go and evereything is set automatically for you. Slow speed can be attributed to many things, connections, number of seeds and peers, amount you have completed compared to other peers, having more than one download open at a time (you're just sharing bandwidth then), even a Cable connection at various times. Don't forget that utorrent shows in KB and most speedtests show in kb, this speedtest is good and to convert kb to KB, divide by 8 and that is your max: http://www.speedtest.net/. Mine is 350 KB but there are times when my download is arond 5 KB. Try that OpenOffice torrent I mentioned before with no other torrent open, I just tried it and it seem's to be going good but make sure you let it run for at least 15 minutes.

It's fine. Everybodies speed is going to differ. I'm on a 3 Mb DSL connection and top out at about 350 KB. If you're on Cable during peak usage, your speed will differ from other times. Take that speedtest and divide your download speed by 8 and that is your maximum download speed in KB at that time. Take a few tests over a few days at various times to get a good average to use for your upload (weekends particularly and after school).

*yawn* .. setting to max up speed shown by a speedtest site will SATURATE your connection slowing everything to snail pace as outgoing packet acks will be stifled by the outgoing data packets.. start at 50% of your upload speed and tweak 1k at a time until you hit the sweet spot..
also sky are using traffic shaping in the uk now... try to upload too fast and they will cut your up speed and smother everything. In theory I have 51k up.. on torrents any more than 21 clogs up.
